-Ratings Breakdown:
ABC opened this fourth week of the 2011-12 season on a winning overnight note thanks to Dancing With the Stars, which featured proud Mama Cher cheering for Chaz in the audience. In the comfortable No. 2 spot was CBS, followed by respectable Fox, lowly NBC and, of course, The CW.
Dancing With the Stars scored a dominant 12.2 rating/18 share from 8-10 p.m., with the half-hour breakdown as follows:
Dancing With the Stars (ABC)
8:00 p.m.: 11.7/18 (#1)
8:30 p.m.: 12.2/18 (#1)
9:00 p.m.: 12.2/18 (#1)
9:30 p.m.: 12.9/19 (#1)
Compared to one year-earlier (13.6/20 on 10/11/10), that was a loss of 10 percent. My pick to depart tonight (and it is not deserved): David Arquette. Next on ABC was crime solver Castle at a first-place 7.8/13 at 10 p.m., which was equal to one-year earlier. Comparably, retention for Castle out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of Dancing With the Stars was a modest 60 percent.
Over at CBS, the two-hour sitcom block remained on the plus side from one year earlier as follows:
Monday/CBS
8:00 p.m. How I Met Your Mother: 6.5/10 (#3): +16 percent from 10/11/10 (5.6/
8:30 p.m. 2 Broke Girls: 7.6/11 (#2): +46 percent from Rules of Engagement on 10/11/10 (5.2/ 7)
9:00 p.m. Two and a Half Men: 10.4/15 (#2): +17 percent from 10/11/10 (8.9/13)
9:30 p.m. Mike & Molly: 7.8/11 (#2): +13 percent from 10/11/10 (6.9/10)
Hawaii Five-O capped off the night for the Eye net with a second-place 6.6/11 at 10 p.m., which dipped year-to-year by 11 percent (7.4/11 on 10/11/10).
Over at Fox, week three of drama Terra Nova perked up to second in the 8 p.m. hour with a 7.2/11. Compared to one week earlier that was an increase of unprecedented 22 percent. Three-week overnight track: 6.4/ 9 – 5.9/ 9 – 7.2/11. Tired House at 9 p.m. dipped to third, with a 5.1/ 7 at 9 p.m. Comparatively, that was down by 24 percent from its year-ago performance at 8 p.m. (6.7/10 on 10/11/10). Yes, it is time for House to call it quits next spring.
In other week three news, CW drama Hart of Dixie was flat at a 1.4/ 2 at 9 p.m., which was seven percent below year-ago occupant Gossip Girl (1.5/ 2 on 10/011/10) and 18 percent behind its debut on Sept. 26 (1.7/ 2). Gossip Girl, now at 8 p.m., could only muster a 1.2/ 2 in the overnights at 8 p.m.
On NBC, the Monday news gets worse by the week with last night’s combination of The Sing-Off (2.8/ 4 from 8-10 p.m.) and a repeat of Prime Suspect (#3: 2.3/ 4) in place of canceled The Playboy Club down by 29 percent from the failed year-ago combination of Chuck, The Event and Chase. As a reminder, Rock Center With Brian Williams steps into the Monday 10 p.m. time period on Oct. 31.
And there you have it…the fourth Monday of the young TV season.
