POLL : Ausiello Blind Item - Which Show is Killing off an original member

Oct 17, 2011

Which Show do you think it is?

A wildly popular show is plotting a killer twist before it takes its final bow this spring.

According to multiple sources, the series in question — which, barring an 11th hour stay of execution, is in its last season — is moving forward with plans to whack one of its original characters just prior to the series finale.

And I’m told the exit will be a dramatic one, impacting multiple characters and storylines.

What’s the show? Who’s the victim? That’s for me to know and you to speculate about in the comments section.

But first, a few additional clues…

* It’s an hour-long series that bears the title The Closer. Or Desperate Housewives. Or One Tree Hill. Or Chuck.

* The character in question will die a hero/heroine.

* The death will definitely stick.

  1. Chuck. Awesome, Morgan, or Casey. I'm thinking Morgan is the most likely since Awesome has a kid and Casey is finally reconnecting with his family.

Don't watch the other 3 shows so I really couldn't come up with an argument as to why someone on one of those shows would die in heroic fashion.

  2. Any of them but Chuck, I would hate for it to end with a death, that would be too much of a downer for me.

  3. There was some talk about this involving Chuck before, right?

  4. The spring part makes me think it's not Chuck because it technically doesn't end in spring. But the "death will stick" part makes me wildly think of Chuck, since there's been a few deaths that turned out not to be quite dead…

  5. I'd guess Desperate Housewives; it seems like the right kind of  show to do that sort of twist. I'd hate it if it was someone on Chuck, but it's possible.

  6. I think it might be Casey which would kind of break my heart a little, I want him to have a happy ending like everyone else

  7. Why bother with the shocker death in a show that's toast anyway? Why would "Desperate Housewives" make the effort to draw viewers in with the death of a longtime character?

  8. Well aren't all of the options in this poll ending this season? So I don't think it would be a ratings stunt at all; it would just be a twist.

  9. One Tree Hill.

I'm calling it now: Dan Scott will die saving Nathan, bringing his character evolution to a fitting end.

  10. Oh,this is fun! Its either D.H. or Chuck, but what do i know,i said Ausiello was full of it:)
I think we need another competition!

  11. Hopefully it's Susan on DH, been waiting for her character to kick the bucket since season 1.

  12. This is the comment I left on Ausiello's article: I have a feeling it’s The Closer. I think it’d be stupid and senseless to kill Brenda. So, even though I hate to say this, my guess would be Fritz. Fritz’s death would have a tremendous impact on Brenda, and would be something big enough to make her quit her job and give it all up. She loves Fritz more than she realizes, in my opinion.

  13. Oh god, If it's someone on Chuck I'll cry.
I'm kind of hoping it is, it would make a memorable ending and not the usual happily ever after that every other show does.

  14. i really feel like its going to be one tree hill, because the death will bring everryone back together and there saying somethign about how nathan isnt here for the full season so maybe that would bring him back

  15. Regardless I think Ausiello is full of (sh)it so I'd go for that answer any day, but I guess "Desperate Housewives" seems to fit, although that would be far too upsetting to the show's core fans, something which I'm sure is not lost on Marc Cherry. So it'll probably end up being Carlos or Tom rather than one of the ladies.
I don't watch "One Tree Hill" but from what little I know it would appear to be the kind of show that can pull off something like this. As for "The Closer" -- that one is least logical in my view. Just don't see what the show has to benefit from killing one of the Major Crimes folks, or how it would be dramatic in affecting everyone.

  16. I hope it is not Chuck, but if it is it could be Jeff, Lester, Big Mike or even Beckman. I really doubt they would kill anyone else like Chuck, Sarah, Casey, Morgan, Ellie or Awesome.

  17. LOL! Though if she managed to survive near-kidney failure following that incident during the Paul Young-related riot (one of the series' most ridiculous storylines if you ask me), I don't think anything can put her down!

  18. I am assuming The Closer.  Simply because how else could the main character go out w/pomp and glory.

  19. Maybe you should be killed off Ausiello

  20. Pleeeaaaase don't let it be Chuck! Well, or The Closer - I don't watch it religiously, but when I DO watch it, I really like all the original characters. Don't really care about the other shows on the list. :p

  21. Hmm...the only show I know really well, of those four, is The Closer and I don't see the point of killing off any of the characters on that one. It would be sad, sure, but not like killing off Prentiss on Criminal Minds. Maybe it's just that I feel that there's too much comedy for a death to have a big impact on that show. I'm not current on DH, OTH or Chuck, but of the three I would guess OTH, though I have no clue who it would be. Hasn't Dan Scott died like 7 times now?

  22. Desperate Housewives?

  23. I'm guessing Desperate Housewives, and I'm betting the character who dies is Mike.

  24. I'm going to guess Desperate Housewives. No idea who. Maybe Susan or Bree.

  25. I really hope i'm wrong, but i'm thinking it's DH

  26. I'm pretty sure its going to be Chuck. Adam Baldwin retweeted a link to the article http://twitter.com/#!/adamsbaldwin

  27. Chuck is the only one of those shows that I know really anything about, and I don't think it is Chuck. For one thing, Chuck isn't wildly popular (it might have gotten there if NBC wasn't stupid). Also, Chuck's final season is supposed to be a salute to its fans with some good surprises along the way (not good as in dramatic or interesting, good as in they are positive). In addition, killing off any member of Team Bartowski would be a bad, with the lone exception maybe being Morgan. The only other original characters they could kill off without a huge backlash would be Jeff, Lester, or Big Mike, or maybe Beckman.

  28. I think it's gonna be One Tree Hill now I think about it.. It will be probably Dan, who dies saving someone, probably from that hitman, redeeming his character..

  29. Desperate Housewives. I'm pretty sure. Either Bree or maybe... Carlos... or Lynette and Tom stays with his girlfriend...
it would be fitting to end the show with a death of a main character, because it also started that way.

  30. I have trouble thinking it would be Chuck.  The only characters that should could function without are Awesome and Ellie.  My guess is One Tree Hill.

  31. I think it will be Desperate Housewives.

  32. I only watch Desperate Housewives, so my comments may be limited but, since Desperate Housewives started there has been a total of 54 deaths in 7 seasons (7.71 a season), on average, which equates to a death every 2.88 episodes. Four episodes into this season, nobody has died, that already beats odds (especially for a premier episode) - therefore, obviously a character will die. Also, looking at the situation, a few cast members are around, who have been around from the start, that serve no real purpose. The show has 8 cast members who have been main for all of the season, (technically 7 but Doug Savant, who plays Tom, appeared in 17 of the episodes in the first season), on top of that there are another 8 cast members that appeared in the first season, have been a main character in at least one season, and are still on the show for either guest stints or as a recurring character (Kathryn Joosten). Of these characters, the only ones are secured are the four main housewives, who aren't logically going to be killed off, crucially, with enough time to impact stories, if they are going to get killed  of this will be done in the last episode. This leaves us with 11 characters, 14 if children are included;

    - Carlos Solis - he is in the perfect position to be killed as a hero, especially after killing Gaby's stepmother, he may go down in a blaze of glory
    - Mike Delfino - is doing nothing in this series, why not send him of in a way that leaves an impact rather than just sitting around
    - Tom Scavo - the whole Tom/Lynette situation can't be resolved, kill him off and show his last act being towards her = plotpoint
    - Julie Mayer - unlikely but she was almost killed last season so why not
    - Andrew Van De Kamp - he's always around, wrong place, wrong time
    - Paul Young - his whole storyline is redemption, redeem him in death
    - Zach Young, John Rowland, Danielle Van De Kamp & Lynette's kids - unlikely

Looking at all this, if an original cast member on the show isn't killed off I will be surprised, and then on top of that there's three more shows on which it may happen, we need to face it, this is a complete guess by Ausiello, but one which will almost certainly come true.

  33. Please not chuck. If they kill any of the main characters, they are begging for a riot. Also, it will suck at the end. I'm thinking probably more likely Desperate Housewives, since they've been going so long they will want to go out with a bang (perhaps literally lol)

  34. i bet its either one tree hill or chuck

  35. Defiantly Desperate Housewives! :)
