I'm completely and utterly stunned ;) As always when shows get cancelled I feel bad for the cast and crew and wish them well but really this was cancelled before it even aired.
The Playboy Club is getting cancelled, and the awful Whitney gets a full season ? There is no God.
I didn't start to watch The Playboy Club (in my grand scheme of waiting for December to start watching this season's drama series, especially the most serialized ones), but it doesn't matter if it was a good or a bad show, it is clearly an ambitious one. And that this sort of high-profile drama is the first series to be cancelled this season is not a good sign for creativity and original series on network TV for years to come.
True, but NBC has the reputation of not respecting the hard work of a show's crew. Look at The Cape. As bad as it was, they didn't even air the final episode on television, but put it online instead.
My thoughts exactly. To be honest I haven't watched either one of them, but no one seems to like "Whitney", whereas "Playboy" at least seemed to be generating *some* buzz... Oh well, I guess we all knew it was coming, just didn't expect it to be that soon. A part of me is excited that we already have the first axe victim of the 2011-12 season. :)
I'm pretty shocked. This was the best show of the fall. They aren't even aired the remaining episodes!! What a lack of respect to viewers and cast and crew. We won't get a properly finale. What a shame nbc
So airing Prime Suspect is an "improvement" over the ratings of The Playboy Club? Seriously?
I was looking forward to seeing Prime Suspect as much or more than most people, but it is just average at best and probably well on its way to cancellation as well....
I really liked this show.. & I agree about that they should've cancelled Whitney instead, that show is plain stupid.. well, fall came back with LOTS of disappointments..
I haven't watched anything on NBC since the entire HEROES hiatus. I probably never will again neither. Network exec's I don't think have a clue what people want to watch or have a clue on how to deliver ideas. Everything is run 100% on money and greed in this country now. Unless a good show idea is presented along with prestige and mega $$, it's not even going to be considered.
Why is there so much hate for Whitney? it really isn't that bad...there are FAR worse shows on at the moment but then again its down to a matter of opinion so there's no point arguing about it but its a shame it was canned it had potential but was on the wrong channel.
Perhaps, but I honestly don't see exactly what is expected of the network. The show had horrid ratings so it's not like we can be expect them to not cancel it. It was only a matter of time.
NBC isn't always the first to cancel a show, last year the honor went to FOX I think and before that I remember the CW cancelling 'The beautiful life' very very fast. Other people care about who wins the Super Bowl, I wonder which network will be the first to cancel a show. Lol
They've let "friends with benefits" to end the season. "Whitney" too. We're talking about two of the worst shows ever. I really liked "The Playboy Club". It was colourful, with good cast, great music and an interesting story. At least give them a chance. They should change the day.
Sigh. I expected it. The drop after the first week was pretty huge. But I think it had the potential to be a fun night time soap. I was really staring to get interested in some of the other characters.
The thing that bugs me the most is the idea that the people at the PTC might take credit.

Most of the ~hate~ garnered by Whitney were, as far as I know (because I don't actually watch the show), due to its representation and degradation of women...? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, this is just what I've been hearing. Whereas Playboy, a show that many assumed to be anti-woman, thrives off of its well-rounded, interesting and empowered female characters.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Why couldn't they have cancelled Whitney instead?
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad. I heard it was really good.
ReplyDeleteHow many episodes were produced ? Are they gonna air the next episodes left ??
ReplyDeleteThat was quick.
ReplyDeletethat was pretty quick.
ReplyDeleteI'm completely and utterly stunned ;) As always when shows get cancelled I feel bad for the cast and crew and wish them well but really this was cancelled before it even aired.
ReplyDeleteThey are currently filming Episode 1.06 so I suspect they only have 1.04 and maybe 1.05 finished.
ReplyDeleteNo news on if they will be aired.
As soon as we hear from NBC we'll be sure to post.
It gets worse. Whitney was picked up for the season.
ReplyDeleteOk this is more what I expected! XD
ReplyDeleteI was surprised tit would last 7 episodes like in the last post about The Playboy Club.....
NBC - No one's Better at Cancelling.
ReplyDeletePersonally, it wasn't for me. I gave up after the first episode. But overall, I heard the plot was picking up.. Shame.
Yeah I agree about NBC.... shame really.
ReplyDeleteAny network other than The CW would've cancelled this show with the ratings it was getting. It's not as if it was some bubble show.
ReplyDeleteThis show unfortunately was DOA and not shocking at all....
ReplyDeleteI actually liked this show. It was promising, really.
ReplyDeleteI know! It's a piece of crap that shouldn't have been picked up! Hopefully, it'll be cancelled after this season.
ReplyDeleteThanks ! It won't conclude any storylines so :(

ReplyDeleteDamn that was fast!
ReplyDeleteAlready? And the first cancellation of 2011-12 goes to NBC. Lol

ReplyDeletewhy? its a funny show...probably not to you but I find it funny...at least its being given a chance to shine
ReplyDeletePS sold well international / is produced by NBC so it like a last ditch effort to save it
ReplyDeleteWhy is there so much hate for Whitney? it really isn't that bad...there are FAR worse shows on at the moment but then again its down to a matter of opinion so there's no point arguing about it but its a shame it was canned it had potential but was on the wrong channel.
ReplyDeleteHave you watched Homeland?
ReplyDeleteI don't think it was a question of which network would cancel first.... just which series NBC would cancel first! XD
ReplyDeleteProbably right... .that makes sense.
ReplyDeleteWhich does make me wonder if that;s why NBC is doing it XD
NBC= Nonsensical Broadcasting Network.
Perhaps, but I honestly don't see exactly what is expected of the network. The show had horrid ratings so it's not like we can be expect them to not cancel it. It was only a matter of time.
ReplyDeleteI always thought the earlier Fall premieres were the least interesting. The mid-season premieres have more potential I think.
ReplyDeleteWhat a shocker, like, unbelievability.
ReplyDeleteNBC isn't always the first to cancel a show, last year the honor went to FOX I think and before that I remember the CW cancelling 'The beautiful life' very very fast. Other people care about who wins the Super Bowl, I wonder which network will be the first to cancel a show. Lol
ReplyDeleteYes, because 'average' equals cancellation. Somebody should tell the guys of '2 and a half men.
ReplyDeleteI did not mean historically speaking, but just based on the crop of Fall series.
ReplyDeleteFree Agents, Grimm and The Playboy Club, and Whitney were pretty much on the top of most people's "first cancelled" lists as far as I recall.....
I hate big networks today, once again. I didn't watch any new show this fall and won't until i'm sure to get a whole season.
ReplyDeleteNice vocab use there. :P
ReplyDeletePlayboy Club was crap. Very "We want to be like Mad Men!"
ReplyDeleteExactly!!!
ReplyDeleteThey've let "friends with benefits" to end the season. "Whitney" too. We're talking about two of the worst shows ever.
ReplyDeleteI really liked "The Playboy Club". It was colourful, with good cast, great music and an interesting story.

I'm so disappointed, it was intriguing, including the subplots. What a shame!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree, and was the main show I was referencing xD
ReplyDeleteSo *SPOILER* basically it now ends with Maureen getting into the mobsters car? Damn it! xD
ReplyDeleteyeah I def. agree however some of the earlier premiere are not THAT bad they just don't get much viewers..
ReplyDeleteYup! Vampire Diaries pilot was horrible and it's one of my favs now.
ReplyDeleteSigh. I expected it. The drop after the first week was pretty huge. But I think it had the potential to be a fun night time soap. I was really staring to get interested in some of the other characters.
ReplyDeleteThe thing that bugs me the most is the idea that the people at the PTC might take credit.
Well, just remember they were the ones who cancelled House and Southland.
ReplyDeleteNot surprised

ReplyDeleteAaaaand boom goes the dynamite. I think most people saw this coming. This show was DOA. Prime Suspect will probably be gone by mid-season too.
ReplyDeleteSo it's really cancelled? Shame, a lot of programs I love started off a bit meh.
