Indian Grove Productions, in association with Shaw Media, announced today that principal photography is underway for season two of the character-driven police drama series, King. Thirteen one-hour episodes will be filmed at a west-end Toronto soundstage and on location in and around the city until March 15, 2012. Season two is expected to premiere on Showcase this winter (2012).

Amy Price-Francis (The Cleaner, 24, and most recently, Grey’s Anatomy) reprises her role as “Jessica King,” a charismatic but flawed female cop and lead investigator of the Major Crimes Task Force (M.C.T.F.). Gabriel Hogan (Heartland, The Kennedys) returns as King’s husband, Police Constable “Danny Sless”. Other returning cast members include Alan Van Sprang (The Tudors, Cra$h & Burn) as Detective Sergeant “Derek Spears” – former head of the M.C.T.F. and two-time Genie Award winner Tony Nardi (Cra$h & Burn) as Police Chief “Peter Graci”.

In season one, Spears has a public, televised meltdown, and King is called upon to take leadership of the Major Crimes Task Force – a police squad that is parachuted in to take over cases in crisis. King has survived eight years in Homicide, two marriages and multiple stab wounds. But leading the M.C.T.F. has its consequences and Jess struggled to find a balance solving cases and her plans to start a family.

In season two, King must meet the challenge of each case while juggling her pregnancy, her husband’s gambling and the changing dynamics of her team. She is firmly in control of the M.C.T.F. and rebuilding the team according to her style and her needs. They include “Martin Carr” (Rossif Sutherland; ER, The Con Artist), a hot shot from the Spin Unit who challenges King on personal and professional levels; “Ingrid Evans” (Karen Robinson; Lars and the Real Girl), one of Organized Crime’s most experienced players who’s sarcastic wit and sense of humour can only be matched by King and “Alessandra Taylor” (Romina D’Ugo; Degrassi Goes Hollywood, Turn the Beat Around), Danny’s young new partner. These new team members will inevitably shake things up and Spears will have to adjust if he wants to stay relevant.

King has been sold to four continents including the major European territories of Germany, France, Italy and the Netherlands.

King is developed by Indian Grove Productions in association with Shaw Media and Showcase. Executive Producers and series creators are Bernard Zukerman and Greg Spottiswood.

  9. Ugh.  So she's keeping the kid and the husband?  I'm not sure I like any of that.  Adding the new characters on top of that is altering my expectations of season two considerably.  I'm not nearly as enthused now as I was a few months ago.
