We have an island off of Labrador. You want Guantanamo.
There's nothing, not even a Shoppers.
InSecurity is Canada's spy spoof comedy hit set around
the fictional National Intelligence and Security Agency, NISA. Now in
its second season, the team is back for more antics.
The season opener is all about deception. Team
leader Alex (Natalie Lisinska) makes up silly code names to call senior
agent Claude (RĂ©my Girard) behind his back when he showed up at work
dressed for the 1970s. Claude thinks it makes him look younger. Everyone
else thinks it's ridiculous looking. Agent Oo La La. Bon homme Super
Sex. Before long, everyone is in on the joke except Claude.
When
Wikileaks went public with a host of NISA files and emails, Alex and
Claude assures their Russian Embassy informant his identity is safe,
while everyone else at NISA is subjected to a thorough polygraph test.
This has Burt (Matthew MacFadzean) worried because he was secretly
sleeping with the polygraph guy's girlfriend. Fearing he will be found
out, he learns the ABCs from master of deception N'udu (Richard
Yearwood) - Always Be Clenching. Only he gets caught concealing
information from a fellow NISA employee and gets fingered as the mole
instead.
Actually, it turned out the NISA mole was polygraph guy's girlfriend. The good ones always go to jail.
Jo Jo, Burt and N'udu look on longingly as security officers escort the
mole out of NISA. As for Claude, he can't stand his new clothes either,
but he was hurt when he finds out that Alex wasn't honest with him.

"Do you want me to cut off all contact with my family? Because I can. It's no problem." - Jo Jo
"I told him about Cake Wars. I don't even watch watch Cake Wars." - Jo Jo
"I make liars cry" - Jeff, the polygraph guy
"Are you lying?" - Burt to N'udu

Natalie Lisinska - Alex Cranston, Team leader
William DeVry - Peter McNeill, Director of NISA
RĂ©my Girard - Claude Lesage
Matthew MacFadzean - Burt Wilson
Grace Lynn Kung - Jo Jo Kwan
Richard Yearwood - Benjamin N'udu, Ligerian Secret Service
Since the series began, it had me quoting from episodes regularly. I remarked in January that it was time this genre got spoofed and glad that a Canadian show was skewering it. If there was anything I've seen could compare it to, it would be NCIS, CSI or CHAOS.
InSecurity airs on CBC Monday nights at 8:30pm
