Scared? You should be...
Yesterday saw the biggest day of the competition by far, with both polls going as the first and second most voted for polls. Peter Bishop pulled off a great victory over Katherine Pierce, the first setback for The Vampire Diaries as the Fringe character took his place in the last eight. Alongside Peter, Castiel continued his domination of the competition so far, yet he has faced a tough challenge in every round so far and I expect things to be tougher for him in the next few rounds... As a result of Castiel's progress, Kate Beckett slipped out of the competition but with a lot of credit after nearly reaching 2,000 votes...
And then there is todays polls. The first one is mammoth, dangerous, potentially mental. Supernatural's Dean Winchester is battling his brother Sam Winchester for a place in the final eight. Which brother will win? Who has more popularity? Guess it's time to find out. Also today we have Game of Thrones' Daenerys Targaryen taking on Gossip Girl opposition in Blair Waldorf. Both polls are tough to call, so it should be interesting.
A quick note, if we get any sort of comments we don't deem suitable for STV, we will take action. So play nice SPN fans...

For anyone new to the competition the rules are simple. Every day there will be a new set of polls between characters who are bidding to become the winner of the second STV Character Competition.
All you have to do is to vote for whichever characters are your favourite and at the end of the 24 hours whichever character has more votes will be the winner and will progress into the next round. There are three rounds before the quarter finals, semi finals and then the final...
Don't forget to tweet, facebook, google+ and spread the word about the characters and shows you love to try and boost your chances of winning.

I guess it's a given that Dean will win. I'm hoping for Sam but Dean is more popular and his fans are determined. Nevertheless, I'll vote for Dean in the upcomming votes. I'm a Sam girl but Dean is family and I like him as well (The bond between the brothers is what made this show become so special and you need both for that bond.) So, it's sad to see Sam go, but I know he would have gone farther, had those two not been put up against each other so soon. The Dean girls would have voted for him too, I'm sure, as the Sam girls vote for Dean if posed against any outside competition. It's the Winchesters as an unit above all Dean-fanism and Sam-fanism.

I love them both,they do drama equally great and it's only Dean's ability to take some of the drama away with his humor that gives him a slight edge.So he gets my vote.
I'll see how things go and then I'll decide if I'm gonna take part in the conversations today.Right now I'm very cautious.

ReplyDeleteDean is the obvious pick, but I chose Sam because he had most endured of them two. First psychic powers, the vessel for Lucifer, a season long a walking man with no soul and humanity and now the walls is coming off in his mind.

And what also helps, I find Sam sexier than Dean with his height and looks. God, if I only had a boyfriend like that, drool..
I chose Blair over Deanerys because Blair have been there for 4 seasons, she is so much multi-faceted villain-turned-anti-heroine-turned-heroine. Her quick wit always make me laugh!

ReplyDeleteEven though Sam is the brother I can most relate to, Dean is my favourite brother. He is the embodiment of every thing that I have ever wanted to be: the snarky, headstrong guy who can take everyone by storm, who isn't afraid to voice out his opinions in any given situation but in his heart of hearts is really very sensitive and cares more deeply than his outward appearances let on.

I've never watched Game of Thrones and I only watched a few episodes of Gossip Girl when I had nothing better to do. But I kinda liked Blair's character (probably because I have a thing for bad girls!) So Blair it is!

ReplyDeleteAh, the day I have dreaded since before the contest officially began has arrived. Let's all just agree that both Winchester brothers are equally important to the story and that neither brother lasts without the other. This is a great time to share what you love about each brother and to be positive. We don't want to scare away anyone who might want to start watching Supernatural with our sometimes overwhelming passion. :-)

It'll maybe be a Dean/Cas Semi-Final, but they can't both make the finals... The other half of the draw is looking likely to be someone from The Vampire Diaries, with maybe Castle or Olivia Dunham threatening the party...

ReplyDeleteWell, HBO should have submitted Clarke as lead GoT actress instead of Lena Heady. She was far more prominent than Heady's character and also way better (I surprisingly did not enjoy Heady very much as Cersei). But I guess the folks at HBO thought she doesn't have the name for it (yet).
ReplyDeleteAs for nominations - Dinklage was an absolute stand-out this season (together with Aidan Gillen & Maisie Williams) and as much as I liked Clarke and her performance, it was not exactly award-worthy for me (again - yet). This is her first major role and I think she'll grow as an actress together with the role. Maybe next year will be her year.
That's a tough one! I'll go with Sam and Blair!

ReplyDeleteI agree with you. I am a Deangirl, but I love Sam too. I just don't want the bitterness to come up. they are brothers and a packaged deal as far as I am concerned. It was brought back to everyone's minds Friday night. Dean reaching to help and to save Sam. Dean telling an unconscious Sam, "My leg is broken, you need to carry me." They carry each other. I just hope this vote doesn't split the fans in a bad way. It would hurt Sam and Dean.

ReplyDeleteI think it has to be the strong POV he has gotten over so many years, his relationships, connections to others and Sam is still the mystery and is barely interacting with the recurring stars and guest stars. It makes Sam really cut out from relationships, and its breaking my heart for him.
The Winchesters are actually a double pack, they win nonetheless so they win both
I think they are both fascinating characters and I think its sad that they are in that competition pitted against each other.

I've been dreading this day since I first filled out my bracket. My vote went to Sam, though my bracket says Dean. I've no emotional investment whatsoever in the second poll, so I voted for Blair, seeing as she's down in my bracket.

I understand where you're coming from, but writers should and do care about how their creation is received by the audience. That is unless there's no business to it; they're just writing for the art of it and expect no payment.
ReplyDeleteI meant that I don't understand how I got so close to the top 10, because I haven't been posting here for even a full year yet, and I don't think I post as often as a lot of other people. I read the description on how this is figured out. It just came as a surprise.
ReplyDeleteOk, maybe my post was a bit aloof. Let me rephrase: I think that the writers listened to the fans about Cas from day one and that's why they resisted killing him off the show for 3 seasons in a row. They still haven't really killed him off yet, arguably, and they have their plans set for that character. I think that the writers have done their best to appeal to the fans for this show and I think that the fans need to realize that this is still a story that will be told the way the writers intend it to be, and that while they hold our opinions in high value (obviously for their praise of their fans and the way they haven't killed him off yet 100%) they still have to do their jobs and if they think it's time for a change in the narrative, it's their prerogative.

ReplyDeleteI, too, believe that the character of Castiel would have been written off, probably at the end of season 5, if the writers had followed their instincts; for no other reason than his arc was concluded with the stopping of the Apocalypse
I agree that the writers have to do what they think is in the best interest of the show so that the show appeals to the most viewers, even if that means alienating a certain group. And it's the viewers' prerogative to change the channel if they don't like the creative direction the show has taken.

I like Dean more than Sam, but I think that that might be a function of how the last couple of seasons have very literally set Dean up to be a saviour while Sam has taken a fall.

I haven't seen the tv show Game of Thrones, but I have read the books and Daenerys has to get my vote for being one of the main characters who hasn't been killed off or maimed yet

ReplyDeleteits so hard to pick between Sam and Dean, but I had to go with Dean. I am so emotionally invested in these characters, but for some reason, Dean's drama appeals to me more. Dean also has a better sense of humor and, though this doesn't have much to do with the characters themselves, I've always thought Jensen was hotter ;)
ReplyDeleteIt’s not there writing what bothers me, they should write
ReplyDeletethe story how they want to. My problem with them is that they know how much the
fans care about Cas, they created a cliffhanger that had all Cas fans anxious
and afraid, they spend all summer saying stuff about how redundant the
character is and how we would be lucky to see him for more than two episodes.
Then when the sow returned they nearly gave us a hart attack
with his false dead, and after wards teasing us with Cas being back wanting to redeem
himself only to take that away one minute later. Then they gave him the lamest
character death ever, and we don’t even know if he is really death. So now we
are supposed to watch every episode hoping Cas will come back only to be let down
week after week until they decide to bring him back (if they decide to do so).
If they want to write Cas out of the show that is their
decision and I respect that, but do the need to “torture” the fans? Why not
give Cas a good character death and be done with it.

ReplyDeleteThis is never a tough poll Winchester vs Winchester... Dean has 2 or 3 times as many fans as Sam does... Occasionally when it doesn't matter much (like a CW poll), fans try to keep the vote fairly even. But, if it matters.... Dean is the powerhouse. So, I of course always vote for the underdog. I try to get them fairly close any way because as long as one wins, I am happy....

ReplyDeleteI like Dany in the books aswell, but I have to say Clarke made Daenerys even better on TV. That´s why i think she did such an amazing job. I hope she makes it far in these polls.
Especially so early... It would be more fun if they could be on different halves... All of the powerhouse characters should be on different halves, but then I guess the finals would always look the same. But this way you have Dean knocking Sam out before Castiel... Not a lot of planning there unless it is just chance where each name starts off.

Obviously they know that people care about these characters, that's why they put them through hell every single episode. If they didn't think you really cared, they'd probably not work so hard to make each character so unique and fleshed out.

ReplyDeleteAs for the other poll... I actually like both, but love neither. I guess I would vote Daenerys if it wasn't for all the hype around her. She's great, but I find MANY GoT characters much more interesting and frankly, some of Dany's actions annoy me. I just can't get myself to care about her. So yeah, Blair I guess, even though I'd take GoT over Gossip Girl anytime.
Dean it is all the way...and one of the reasons for that is most people fail to realise that Dean is suffering and is beleagured as much as Sam. It's just different. Dean hides behind a facade. Despite SPN trying to dipict otherwise, Dean's issues is no less than Sam's, no way. LOVE both brothers and really happy to see them back together finally, long may that continue.

sure Cas isn´t dead. But you only have to go to tumblr or livejournal to sea

I agree that a little teasing isn´t bad, but I think they have taken it
to far this time, reason why I used the word “torture”. Obviously we don´t
share the same view, so we can spend hours going back and ford (but honestly

I think I love you :). It was really weird - Cas became Godstiel, one second later he was Castiel again, and two second later he is Levi!Cas, then Cas again (Run, Dean! scene, remember?), and now he is dead (we know he is not, but...). And his death was like "What? Cas? Oh, I don't care, kill him, as you want to kill, his story is redundant!". I'm not trying to say he should live forever, but his story line in season 6 and his death show, how much the writers care about him. Fortunately Guy Norman Bee and Jensen (trenchocat scene was their idea) are amazing people and they care about characters...and fans.

ReplyDeletePitting Sam and Dean against each other is completely unfair, especially at this point in the competition. Jensen and Jared are both amazing actors and their characters each have their own strengths and weaknesses. Sam has been through so much crap and still keeps going. And really, who can resist his puppy dog eyes? Dean on the other hand, is hilarious and completely awesome when he goes into big brother mode. Honestly, I love them both equally and dividing the Supernatural fandom like this is really not a good idea.

ReplyDeleteepisodes one after the other Cas went from God to Cas to Leviathan to maybe dead
in less than 10 minutes. And for us it makes sense that they hardly mourned Cas
because we know he is not dead. But from Dean´s point of view he just lost is
best friend and he didn´t even bother to give him a funeral. I was really surprised that the trench coat
thing wasn´t scripted, but on the other hand it confirmed to me that Cas isn´t
dead, I´m pretty sure that if Cas was really dead Edlund would have made a
bigger deal out of it. I don´t need to
know exactly when Cas will be back, but a confirmation that he will be back
would be a lot nicer to the fans.
Ok so for me it's like this:
ReplyDeleteI call myself an EOF (equal opportunity fangirl) which, while it could be seen to connote a high degree of focus on the physical attractiveness of both brothers, actually encompasses my love for both of them as the great characters they are. It's at times like this I regret my inability to make a firm choice between Sam & Dean. I know whoever I finally decide to give my vote to today, as soon as I've clicked the vote button I'll wish I voted for the other.
Dean is snarky, bad-ass, streetsmart and borderline alcoholic.
Sam is the quiet one, but he's also pretty bad-ass. He's the 'book'smart one, and he also has issues with addictive substances.
Both brothers are incredibly courageous, and have been through more than their share of horrendous heartbreak.
Either way, we wouldn't have the show we have without both brothers.

The show wouldn't be the same without one of them, so collectively they are both winners....but alas I had to choose Dean. Dean adds the humor that the show needs and the sex appeal that we women need, lol

ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more. It is ridiculous to pit the brothers against each other. They are two sides of the same coin so to speak and neither one would be great without the other! With them being friends in real life, I am sure they would hate this kind of thing!!

I kinda took 2 mins to review in my head both of them and see the ups and downs to them: Dean well I like because Jensen was on Smallville, Dean is funnier and was closer to cas which gave him the edge, and to me he always seemed more like the hero of the story more then sam and thats because sam has demon blood, was the vessel for lucifer, lost his soul and almost killed Bobby >:/ (trying to kill bobby and have dean stop him at the last moment was a definite like to dean more then sam) I just think Sam is more of the antihero. I knwo they fight together (most of the time) but also Dean is the older one and I kind relate to him more. Soim voting for Dean
ReplyDeleteThere were eight seeded characters... Sam and Dean were two of them. It just happened that they met at the earliest stage seeded characters could.
ReplyDeleteIf what you two say was done, In the future they wouldn't be included in the competition... No point including characters in a competition if they "can't" go against each other.
ReplyDeleteWell, I love both Sam and Dean however I will say I am more of a Sam girl and would love for him to win. It is always tough when they put Sam vs. Dean. I know that Dean will win but Sam has my vote. When it is all said and done as long as a Winchester takes it all I will be happy.

ReplyDeleteI would say that there is murkiness surrounding Cas on all sides. There are those that love him, those that like him, and those who think his place is done in the plot regardless of whether they love or like them. That contest could get a bit heated so I'm hoping people remember that it too is a great way to get new fans in and don't make it into a fan war.
ReplyDeleteWell put Wilson. I fully expected Cas to leave the story in season 5 and there were rumors that he was supposed to die in season 6. I feel that they only reason Cas is still on the show is because there is so much fan love for him. Supernatural writers do take the fans in consideration, sometimes too much, and that is why we will see Cas again this season.

ReplyDeleteCas is not dead. Expect to see his return around the midseason break. The writers need to set up the brothers being hunted. My guess is that we will see that the LeviaBoss is still in Cas. If they decide to kill Cas, his death will have all the punch you want it have. Supernatural knows visceral death scenes better than any other show I've seen.
ReplyDeleteAnd thank goodness for that. I can imagine the outcry if it were a Supernatural vs Supernatural finale. I only wish this match would be quicker to get it over with.

Good to know that in a little over 1 year, I have become the garrulous person on the site. I would promise to shut up but I enjoy the conversations too much.

ReplyDeleteI am absolutely glad that they met early. The last thing we want is a SpoilerTV competition where the last match is between 2 characters from the same show, no matter what that show is. I'm dreading a possible Peter vs Olivia finale too. If it were me doing the placements, all characters from one show would be in the same region so there was no possibility of more than one character from a show making it into the final 4. It's more beneficial for a site that caters to TV fans in a wide spectrum to keep as many different shows in the running for as long as possible.
ReplyDeleteI try that... It's quite hard with so many shows with multiple characters, but I made sure we avoided same show clashes in round one then tried to group some if not all the same show characters close-ish. I agree a same show final would be not great.

ReplyDeleteIt helps that you are part of the Supernatural fandom. You know how chatty we are about the littlest things and people tend to like comments a lot in our fandom. In fact, looking at the top people a majority comment regularly on the Supernatural pages.
ReplyDeleteWell, in my opinion, if they were going to permanently kill Cas off in ep 1 or 2 of season 7, I'd be really upset if they did it the way they did. But because it's a given that he's coming back later, I didn't mind the walking into the water scene, because we'll get plenty of episodes without Cas and maybe he'll come back and it'll be different where he's no longer needed to pop in and do something every episode, or he gets to redeem himself/dies a huge death that would fit his character.

ReplyDeleteI do so love the Supernatural badges and I am gleeful over 11 but why must you continually torture me. Whenever I get to the top of a badge count (Supernatural, trendsetter), all of a sudden there are more that need to be unlocked. How am I ever supposed to reach perfection? :-P
ReplyDeleteI applaud you in all these contests. It is hard to make a contest that continues daily, but you have to please multiple fandoms and thousands of people. Kudos to you for all your hard work. I know I always have a ton of fun with these competitions - even when I'm heartbroken over some of the results.
PS - Still working on NCIS quotes. It's harder than I thought it would be. I hope other people are working on it too.

I'm really unhappy to see how the voting in the Sam/ Dean contest is going to finish.
ReplyDeleteI naively believed that they would at least finish nearly equal, 49/51% or similar, although I had few doubts that Dean would be the eventual winner.
I have no problem with that, someone had to win, but I just hoped that it would have been a closer result, in view of the fact that Dean would not be the character he is without having been influenced by his brother's existence, and Sam would not be Sam if he too hadn't had his character moulded by the presence of his older brother. They are inextricably linked!
Obviously everyone has their own reasons for voting one or the other, whether it be their physical presence, their natures, their courage, their humour, their hunting capacities etc,. but for me it remains a little sad that both are not equally appreciated ( going by this poll ) for their individual strengths and weaknesses.
As far as I know LOST was not a part of regular Spolier TV, it was (and is still) followed in DarkUFO's other webpage, named DarkUFO, I used to visit it all the time during Lost's last years. (Well, that's what he also said, I see)

ReplyDeleteI am not sure about that. Some of them do. I don't believe Cas is dead. At least not yet. They are trying to get back to the basics which is Sam and Dean, but I believe Cas will be back. Well Misha will be. So far, I like the way the story is going, except for the death scene of Castiel. That is not his final scene as Cas. Heroes die as heroes most of the time on Supernatural.
ReplyDeleteI could live with that. Misha said he was told he was supposed to die at the end of Season 6. I would prefer that whatever is done will be for the good of the show, not a character. That's what it is about. Cas was never supposed to a continuing character, although I think he's great. I do believe that if they do kill him, that it would be something memorable.

ReplyDeleteJensen is really good about knowing what the fans like and expect...and what Dean would do. The scene with the trenchcoat was pure Dean. Guy Norman Bee is such a great director.
ReplyDeleteTeasing is the Supernatural way. We have all faced teasing. It's just something the fans get used to. It wouldn't be Supernatural if there wasn't some. I thought the first two episodes were tremendous. Misha had some incredible acting moments doing that quick from one Cas to another mentality. He impressed me. In my opinion this was one of the few times he actually got to stretch his acting talents. I am forever grateful for it. I know how good Jensen, Jared, and Jim can act. Let's face it, most of Misha's acting has had to be an angel who doesn't get the joke. He's had a few scenes that were really good, but this is the first time I've seen what he can do. I liked it. He scared the daylights out of me.

don´t know anything, and I´m just tired of it. Misha did an amazing job I am
sad we got to see so little of him, I really hope he plays Boss Leviathan. But
I also think he did a really good job as Jimmy and future Cas. It´s way I really want them to make Cas human
so they can give the character more dimensions.

us how we will get answerer in episode 2, but we still don´t really know

season as much because I have to keep wondering if my favorite character is

how bad things get you know they are going to be alright at least until the end
of the series. I know they are never
going to give Cas the same grantee Sam and Dean have, but that doesn´t mean I

I went with Dean and Blair. I love Sam as we all do but there's something about Dean that we can't stay way from! Sad to see Blair go but at the same time I'm not surprised she lost to a character on GOT which I hear is very good.
