Hey Guys,
In a quieter Semi-Final, Damon Salvatore booked his place in the Final after a comfortable victory over Richard Castle. Over the two years and four competitions I've ran this is the second time we have The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural being represented in the Final, after the 2010 show competition featured both...
The domination of the final two characters can be reflected in how they were the winners of all five of the most voted in polls, Castiel featuring twice, with Damon featuring three times. That means today should see a large turnout...
That means that today is the final day, the last push for victory. Will it be claimed by Supernatural's Castiel, or by The Vampire Diaries' Damon Salvatore. The time has come to find out...
In the prediction competition, JerMd's lead has gone, an a new leader has emerged going into the final day. Fide Sevgi now stands a great chance to see victory, and should Castiel see the title go his way, Fide will be the competition winner. To see your score head HERE
For anyone new to the competition the rules are simple. Every day there will be a new set of polls between characters who are bidding to become the winner of the second STV Character Competition.
All you have to do is to vote for whichever characters are your favourite and at the end of the 24 hours whichever character has more votes will be the winner and will progress into the next round. There are three rounds before the quarter finals, semi finals and then the final...

ReplyDeleteThis is without a doubt the hardest poll I have ever voted in. I am a HUGE fan of both characters and Misha is awesome in any of his characters, Castiel, Jimmy, Hippie Cas, God or the monsters vessel. I want him back in some form, maybe if he wins this SPN will bring him back sooner. I just thing because Dean saved the coat they do plan on bringing him back, so with tears in my eyes for not voting for Damon, Cas gets my vote. Damon has a large part of my heart along with Spike as my vampire loves.

I like Damon and all, but I feel his character still has a quite long way to go, as in I am waiting to see more character development on his part, whereas Castiel´s stuggle with obedience and free will has been one of my favourite storylines on TV in the last few years.

ReplyDeleteThere is not one single doubt in my mind who this vote goes to, Castiel, the angel who gave up everything for humanity, rebelled against Heaven to stop the apocalypse, died twice, and then had to stand up to carry the weight of a civil war on his shoulders only to lose himself in the darkness before he can crawl his way back out. This one angel's journey through the seasons is simply amazing to watch, his struggles with understanding humanity and learning free-will, and his endless love and loyalty for the Winchesters. He has proven himself to be another brother to Sam and Dean, another idjit for Bobby to look after, and a member of Team Free Will. I will always stand by him!

ReplyDeleteI voted for Damon, but none of these two are my favorites. I would have loved to see Walter Bishop, Ben Linus, Tyrion or John Locke in the final. I think all four of them have so much more character development than Cas and Damon.

ReplyDeleteI'm sorry Castiel, I can't bring myself to vote for you, I've struggled with it for the whole tournament and I never could vote for you, nor since the first poll. I've explained in another poll's comments why I have a conflicting thing for this angel. He has an interesting plot, but somehow I don't really like how it turned out. I'm glad for his supporters, but to have him winning over Peter Bishop and Dean Winchester is just so wrong for me that I'm not really into helping him win this cup. Anyway, he probably will and for one whole year he will hold that title... Yo know, he was a bit too arrogant to declare himself a new god, and equally I think this title is just way too big for him. I prefer little confused Castiel, doubting himself and ready to help others instead of trying to be number one.
No offense intended, this is my opinion. I understand his followers because I do like Castiel in some of his finest moments. To both fandoms: enjoy the finals and congratulations for getting your favorite characters to win as number one and number two (I had thought of an interesting comparison between Dean W. and Walter B. as a homage for both getting to the finals, but, man, was I ever so wrong).
Me too! Your choices, plus Tony Soprano and Jack Shephard making it close to the top, and I'd be happy. Maybe next year, there should be two separate polls, for classic characters and currents.

I think he's such an interesting character, with his strugles and doubts and everything. And Misha did an amazing job portraying perfectly every layer of him. As Belinda Bu said, his journey through the last three seasons of Supernatural is moving and beautiful. GO TO THE VICTORY, CAS!

ReplyDeleteI find Cas's path from light to darkness far more interesting than Damon or Peter Bishop or Dean, those leading characters have so many stereotypical roles they have to fill, the bad boy or the hero, but Cas transcends both. He was a righteous warrior who had fallen along the dark path in an attempt to save the world, and if simply arrogance in declaring himself the new God (which is also influenced by monster souls) is the reason he can't win this poll then I'd say no character should. Dean has been plenty arrogant, so has Damon, and so has Peter Bishop. No character is perfect from the flaw of arrogance.
ReplyDeleteWhat fascinates me so much about this character is that he did fall down the darkest path, he was an enemy, but you know what he had, he had the strength of character to pull himself out of that darkness, and in the moment when it counted, he came back, he admitted his wrongs, and he wanted to fix things even if it meant giving up his life. THAT is why this character wins for me. It's not that he has to be cute little perfect angel all the time, it's that he did fall, he did make huge mess and mistakes, but he saw his wrongs and wasn't afraid to admit his failings and wanting to redeem his actions.
And if the show is smart, then his journey is not nearly over yet.
Well I never would have picked those 2 characters for the final battle.

ReplyDeleteI do appreciate your vision of Castiel, I have 'liked' your previous comment. My problem is not with his flaws, you are right that they make him more interesting and also in pointing out that other characters also have them. In my opinion the problem is that I don't find this character to be consistent, I can't really root for him because I never really knew where he was coming from. I couldn't emotionally understand his development so I couldn't really sympathize with him. I did appreciate his attempt to make ammends at the end and consider his arc a really tragic destiny. But, you know, all the goings and comings as a powerful angel and then not, dying and coming back once and again, and then he is only human, and then almost god, it's all too tricky and convoluted, like a bad plot device. Although I admit he has had really stellar moments. But I would have reserved the Cup to a character written more consistently, that's all (I guess that's also arguable, but I happen to find Dean W. and Walter B. as two master pieces, not so much Peter B.)
ReplyDeleteI love Castiel as Dean's friend and really wish everything had been different, but I have been disappointed so far with what happened. I expect him to come back and make a better impression this time. I do like him and it has been a surprise for me to find out that I'm not really wanting to vote for him, that my issues with this characer go deeper than what I thought they did. And I was just pointing out the irony that the worst decision he ever made, to consider himself a god, mirrors his situation in this tournament, that's all. Thank you for your reply, it has helped me clarify my comment.

ReplyDeleteReally hope people are not refusing to vote because Dean lost or voting for the other for the same reason. A win for Castiel is a win for Supernatural. There were 9432 votes in the Dean/Castiel semifinal which means there should be atleast 9432 for Castiel in this one.

ReplyDeleteThis is definitely a hard poll! Castiel is an amazing character and of course he is on Supernatural and I have always been unable to vote against the Winchesters. Dean considered him like a brother which would make him a Winchester. Damon is such a train wreck but we all love to watch him and sometimes he does do the right thing (rarely). He doesn't know what love is but he does things out of love anyway though most of the time he does things out of anger. My vote goes to Damon since I am a Salvatore at the end of the day. Don't care who wins since these are both dynamic and amazing characters.

What I meant was saying you love so and so character but you'll vote for someone different. For me, it defeats the purpose of voting for your favorite. I agree with JMC00. But some skeptics have stated on the CW forum that they will intentionally vote against Castiel. The fans need to vote for him and not assume he will win.

Damon Salvatore, on the other hand, is my second favourite character, on a tie-in with Katherine Pierce, after Dean Winchester whom you eliminated in the previous round.
So my vote goes to Damon even though I know he is not likely to win against you in this face-off.

ReplyDeleteIt was definitely a well-deserved win. I still need to catch up on GoT (for some reason I keep making the mistake of trying to watch while eating... heh) but he's my favorite from what I've seen.

ReplyDeleteHe is just such an awesome character. I love that he is actually on the "bad" side, but we still love him. He plays a big part in the second book, so I´m really really excited to see season 2.

ReplyDeletelol Yes, he was quite awful at times in that episode of Charmed. I remember watching that at like 11 years old or something and even then the guest actors made me laugh on that show.
ReplyDeleteYeah, if anything a lot of the violence and demeanors of certain characters are more like Supernatural. If I recall correctly, TVD has even had characters make fun of Twilight, much like SPN.

It's quote from Supernatural. The character Dean said it when he killed a vampire in one of the episodes. He likes to make pop culture references.

ReplyDeleteCastiel, I'm sad to say that I'm one of those who don't like Damon that much. Although, I like his conflicts between Elena, I think the "it's-impossible-for-me-to-feel-and-be-good-I-am-a-damned-and-bad-person-now" is getting old. It seems a little stupid. But other than that, Damon is a great and dynamic character.
ReplyDeleteI just love Cas more. He's just down to the bone naive - but kind and loving, believeing - but also a doubter and loyal - but lonely. Cas is my spirit animal, and he will live in my heart forever. Always Cas. I love him, and he really, truly deserves this. Castiel is an amazing character.
i watch both shows i love damon , but CASTIEL forever and always.
