Thanks to www.mycoven.com for the heads up

In its seventh season, "Supernatural" is going all-out when it comes to the guest stars who keep the story colorful, and this bit of casting scoop is no exception.

Zap2it has exclusively learned that D.J. Qualls -- best known for his memorable role as nerdy virgin Kyle in the comedy classic "Road Trip" -- will intercept the Winchesters in the season's 8th episode, tentatively titled "Time for a Wedding."

Qualls plays Garth, a quirky, laid-back hunter who Dean (Jensen Ackles) clashes with right off the bat.

Let's just say that Dean definitely wouldn't be working with him if Garth wasn't the only hunter available, and if it wasn't a dire emergency. Hijinks ensue, we're sure

  2. OMFG YAY! Road Trip is one of my favorite movies and Kyle was so awesome!

  3. The combination of the words "wedding" , "dire emergency" and "only hunter availabe" make it sound really interesting...

  4. I am laughing already and it hasn't even aired yet.  lmbo

  5. Now I'm starting to think Sam and Dean are gonna be stuck in a Death At A Funeral kind of situation all of a sudden. XD

  6. Sounds like this episode is gonna be really great ;)

  7. sounds good, definitely gonna be watching!

  8. I wonder if this is the same Garth that Bobby says 'Not me the FBI Garth , the real FBI - how are you still alive?' in Weekend At Bobby's?

  9. Qualls as a hunter?  Ugh.  No thanks.

  10. Don't worry, Dean will soon put him in his place. Or kill him. Or both.

  11. You'd figure, from the character description, that this guy wouldn't last five minutes as a hunter anyway.  Quirky and laid-back aren't character traits that keep a hunter alive.

  12. I agree, but there are some people like that in real life. I mean people who seem like they shouldn't last long in their jobs/situations/neighborhoods/whatever but do somehow.

I think I'd be annoyed by a permanent character like this, but it sounds like it could be entertaining for one episode.

  13. Once again I am out of the pop culture loop.  DJ Qualls is best known for Memphis Beat to me.  I've never heard of this Road Trip they talk about.  I'm not sure I would say this is going all out in guest stars either, but I like him on Memphis Beat and can't wait to see what Dean makes of a nerd hunter.

  14. That would be fantastic!  I always wanted to see that Garth just to put a face to the stupidity.  If it is the same hunter, then no wonder Dean is frustrated with him.  I'd guess Sam would be too.  They'll have to treat him like a PiP who gets in the way just to keep him alive.

  15. I suppose that's possible.  I should probably reserve judgment until we get more info than a one-sentence description.

  16. Have to say that this surprises me too.  He's so scrawny on Memphis Beat that it is a stretch to think of him as a cop.  A hunter is pushing ludicrous.

  17. Well, you remember Richie. lol (from SIN CITY, season 4)

Also, by this point it doesn't matter their demeanor, their place in the world or their "quirky" antics...if it's a hunter, the writers WILL kill them.

  18. Ritchie.  Exactly right.  Not only do I remember Ritchie, I remember what happened to him.  :)

  19. Oh wow...it's that pipsqueak from "The New Guy"... He was a "big deal" from about 2002-2004 and then disappeared until Memphis Beat...

    This is interesting casting.

  20. "I should probably reserve judgment until we get more info than a one-sentence description" LOL cuz nobody here EVER makes a judgment on a one-sentence description :P

    ReplyDelete
  21. We would NEVER do that! Nor would we force the owner of the site to close a topic because of an argument that stemmed from a one-sentence description.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yeah.  You've got a point there, Jilly.  The post for "The Girl Next Door" synopsis is a good example of that.  :)

  23. If I remember right, Richie got taken out by Casey the superhot demon bartender.  There are far worse ways to go on Supernatural.

  24. If Garth is as stupid as it sounded like with Bobby, then I hope his death is ultra cheesy and caused completely by him screwing up.  I want to laugh at this death and I most certainly don't want the Winchesters feeling guilty about it.

  25. Like the sound of this episode

  26. Oh sounds like so much fun, but aren't all hunter quirky? I mean it's practically an occupational requirement.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ha, talking about TV spoilers wouldn't be any fun without some judgments!

    ReplyDelete
  28. O like him so YAY!!! Plus anything that takes Dean out of his comfort zone is fun ;P

    ReplyDelete
  29. He just wanted some toys.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Sounds like a fun episode Dean not happy can anyone say sarcastic!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm not sure if Sam will like the guy or not, he'll be frustrated with him if he's just a wannabee hunter putting himself and others in danger but I do think Sam will be playing role of Pacifier between the guy and his Dean. Probably trying to prevent Dean from wanting to throttle the guy.

    ReplyDelete
  32. well that sounds like major fun.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Never heard of him but he's obviously huge so more power to the writers! I think that this will be good though, "hijinks will ensue" and Dean in the same breath equals classic comedy!

    ReplyDelete
  34. He didn't get taken out in a fun way, but you are right. Casey was preferred to other antagonists in this show.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Sounds like there might be some comedy in there.
