SAMCRO fans, grab your cut and let your bike roar in the streets to celebrate the extremely good ratings the premiere of Sons of Anarchy received yesterday.

Last night at 10pm on FX, nothing less than 4.94 million viewers watched the 90-minute premiere (59 minutes without the commercials) from 10pm to 11:30pm ! This is simply the best ratings of the show. Also, another record was broken since 2.4% of people in the 18-49 demographic were watching SoA (only NBC with America's Got Talent did better with 3.1% on the key demo).

Including the 11:30pm and 01:00am reruns, an impressive total of 7.25 million viewers (4.76 million of them in the 18-49 demo) watched the premiere on FX last night ! And including the +7 days viewings, FX is projecting that episode 4.01 of Sons of Anarchy will be the most watched episode ever of one of their original series ! FYI, seasons 2 and 3 of Nip/Tuck currently hold the best ratings of any FX series, with episode 2.16 (5.2 million), episode 3.01 (5.3 million) and episode 3.14/3.15 (5.7 million viewers).

The best basic cable channel (imo) is busy this week : after the premiere of their one true hit last night (Justified and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, although rather successful, are nowhere near the Sons), the 93rd and final episode of Rescue Me airs in a few hours and the season finale of both Wilfred & Louie will air tomorrow night (both these outstanding comedies are renewed).

  3. This makes me happy.

I read on his blog that Kurt Sutter is planning on doing 3 more seasons. With huge ratings like this, I'm sure FX wouldn't mind at least fifth season, and since this channel sometimes renew its shows for multiple seasons at a time (Damages seasons 2 and 3, Sunny seasons 8 and 9), a two-season renewal can definitely happen on FX, it would be nice to know, and also the writers will be able to plan things nicely.

But anyway, renewal for 2 seaosns or not, there's absolutely nothing to worry about for the Sons' future, the show is still one of the biggest hit on the 18-49 demo on basic cable. Only The Walking Dead is doing better, actually, and there's True Blood on HBO, too. All the TNT and USA Network shows are behind Sons of Anarchy on the 18-49 demo, that's quite impressive.

I watched season 3 last week, all 13 episodes in a row on 4 days, and whao, that was great. I think I'm going to wait November 29 to start watching season 4. It'll be tough, but it'll be worth it. Having stopped watching after 6 episodes in Autumn 2010, I never found time to fully get into it ever since, although I'm a huge fan. Sons of Anarchy is the first show I got into in its first season, with Fringe and True Blood, in September 2008 ; all three are still here and they're still wonderful - although SoA is the only one I was truly very enthusiastic about from the get go.

  4. I love watching this series that way too. I tend to let a few episodes accrue and then do a mini-marathon... like 2 or 3 times a season.

  5. Yeah, SoA had me hooked from the Pilot and I didn't really expect to like it because I have no real interest in the MC culture. So glad I was wrong.

  8. are u going to be doing a ratings recap for other series too i love this and am glad that sons of anarchy scored its biggest premiere ever the question remins though how much will it drop in episode 2 the pattern ive noticed with FX ratings is they do better in premieres then the remainder of the season and typically drop 20-30% after the premiere FX series always drop big episode 2 so with new series i never let a premieres ratings fool me but obviously with Sons of Anarchy im not worried the question remains will it fall lower then last seasons 2nd episode or will it drop lighter?
