Really? I get where you're coming from, but I would hardly qualify him as "smart" or "competent" (he has worse sales than Pam!). But yeah, he's a different kind of "crazy" than Michael.
(Except that a genuinely competent, mostly sane manager would make the writers' jobs MUCH too hard - there's just too much good comedy to be had from a boss with a screw loose!)
I wanted someone new to play the manager, but Andy was the best choice among the current staff.
I just don't see him as the anti-Scott. He might be smart and friendly, but he also desperately wants to be liked, to have a family and be happy and is kind of a doofus. He also lacks self awareness sometimes (baby talking, the evolution of dance, kissing Pam's pregnant belly, bragging about catching a giant fish aboard a yacht before a fishing obsessed customer, talking about nipple chaffing, the ripped scrotum debacle, the extremely annoying ringtone, etc). And lack of self awareness is very Michael Gary Scott.
I love Pam and Jim and Toby and Kelly and Ryan. . . . Without Steve Carell, I think the show will be just fine. He was great when he was on, and I think the rest of the cast has good enough chemistry to keep it fun. First you take a look at the rest of the characters
Then you decide who has what strengths,
Then you think of some interesting situations . . . . . . . . .And then shove it up your butt! LOL @ Stanley!!!
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Loved it! The episode was hilarious and Andy was a surprisingly good choice. I loved him defending everyone!
ReplyDeleteAnd yay, Angela's pregnant! Think the baby might be Dwight's. LOL at Emotional!Pam and yay for Baby Tuna #2 being a boy!
Andy is the anti-Scott. Smart, competent, and friendly with the staff. Much better role reversal than the 2 and 1/2 men deal.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed it. Pretty good episode.

ReplyDeleteCornell graduate. He is defiantly smarter than Michael, much more self aware. Andy took the list right to Robert. Michael would have fooled around.
ReplyDeleteI don't know... Andy's a great character but I don't like him as general manager. They should've put Jim or Oscar as GM.
ReplyDeleteSolid episode. Andy is a great boss.

ReplyDeleteI actually found it better than I thought it was going to be and liked Andy as the new branch manager.
ReplyDeleteSolid start and nice choice for Andy as DM. Awesome cold open with Dwight extinguishing the "planking" craze....lol
