Tonight's episode was EPIC! Goodbye Larry! Hello, new more interesting villain! I was losing hope for this season a bit for the past few episodes but this episode has recharged it.
I thought this episode was awesome from start to finish. Totally shocked by the end. Kept me on edge every second. When I saw that house fire, I thought it was Madeline's house at first, thankfully, it wasn't. Really showed the love Fiona and Michael have for each other and it seems to have deepened over the last few weeks. Now we have a new psychopath to deal with. Of course there would be someone left over on that NOC list. Now Michael will be doing the same stuff he did for Carla, Management, Vaughn, Gilroy, Simon and Strickler in order to keep Fiona out of prison. It will probably put a wedge in their relationship again, but if they work together and stick together in this, their relationship will survive. Goodbye Larry!!!
I love this season. I think what is so great is that they went outside of the box and did totally different things than expected. Not many client stories, but overall a great season so far. Last seaon I thought was just as great, my favorite episodes being the last half of the season, especially "Last Stand" and "Guilty as Charged". However, bringing Jesse in kind of spoiled it for me, but I've grown to like him. I wish Michael and Fiona would work together more often because they are a great team.
I have LOVED this season so far. This is my second favorite season, the third being my favorite. I am a shipper and that is why i have loved this season. I don't particular care for the show's over arcing story lines, I am just watching for the Michael/Fiona.
Their relationship will survive this. I'm not worry about that. What I am worried about is Fiona getting ideas about turning herself in to free Michael from the hold of this guy.
I'd say this is my third favorite season so far after three and four. I liked tonight's episode and thought it was well paced. I generally prefer over-arching stories, but I do hope we get more regular client episodes in the second half.
Well, if you look at the paper that Pearce hands to Michael at the end of the episode, it only said two were killed. There where three people in that building when it exploded and when Michael came out of the building he said that the two guards where dead. So, that leads me to believe that Larry either got out of the building somehow or he was blown to smithereens.
The big twist at the end might've been more effective if I wasn't a fan of Justified. From the moment I saw the actor I knew "Oh Jesus, it's THAT guy." That man plays one hell of a bad guy. This episode shows that he may as well be the same character in a different city.
This is shaping up to be my favorite season of Burn Notice. Hoping Larry isn't dead, but I'll accept it if he truly is, I just feel it wasn't as good of a way for him to go because I wanted Michael to kill him in the end. The twist at the end I figured almost immediately after Larry showed Michael because there had to be a twist, I just expected Larry to be in on it as opposed to being used. And I'm glad they're finally bringing back in the company's remnants, even if it was predictable they would do that, and hopefully it'll lead to a great back half of the season and Season 6.
Sadly this wasn't my favorite season. I really liked it more when Micheal, Fi, Sam, and Jesse worked together as a team. Having Micheal off doing other things while the rest were taking care of clients wasn't my cup of tea. I am looking forward to the rest of the season but I am hoping this unites them as a team.
One more thing, it doesn't really matter to me if Larry is dead or alive. Anson is far worse than Larry. At least Larry was half human at times.
I've actually never seen Justified, but I had him pegged as the bad guy the minute his 'wife' blew up early. I was actually kind of disappointed that I managed to spot him so easily, normally Burn Notice keeps me guessing right up to the reveal!
I'm really hoping it was door number 2 and Larry was vaporized, I really think he has run his course as a character. The number of times he's slipped one over on Michael was becoming ridiculous, many more, and it would start to chip away at Michael's credibility as a superspy!
I have to confess, I went for 'great' instead of 'awesome' this time. Normally when Burn Notice does twists, they blow me away. However, in this episode, I picked out the bad guy way ahead of the reveal, from when his 'wife' was blown up early. Also, I'm kind of concerned that they're traveling down a road that they've already kind of covered: Micheal being forced to work for someone who has something he wants/has something that will hurt him or the people he loves.
Another problem I had with this episode was the re-appearance of Dead Larry. I hope to hell that he actually stays dead this time, his character has definitely run his course on the show. Plus, if he gets one over Michael one more time, Michael is going to start losing his credibility as the best spy in the game.
Problem number three for me was the way they dealt with Pearce learning that Michael's been lying to her all season. It was building up and building up and building up to the moment where they find Max's killer and they work so hard to keep Pearce off their trail, and then it's all cleared up in the first 10 minutes of the summer finale, and it turns out that Max being killed is just the machinations of yet another person/organisation attempting to force Michael under their thumb so that they can use his skills for evil.
One good thing that came out of the episode was that Michael and Fi appear to be staying strong in the face of adversity. I'm really hoping that we've already seen the majority of the focus on their relationship problems in the first half of the season, and that they'll start to present a united front to the forces of evil when the show returns in November.
All in all, while this episode wasn't the corker I was hoping for, I will still definitely be watching in November to see what happens. I have faith in the writers and characters of this show, and I'm hoping that they can turn the second half of season 5 into something special.
Agreed about Dead Larry. I never liked him in the first place and the way he keeps showing up when he's supposed to be gone is just incredibly irritating. Though I am very glad that he wasn't actually the mastermind behind what's been going on all season the way they were trying to suggest in the promo!
After I rewatched this episode again, from the beginning this episode to me was a love story about Fiona fearing losing Michael. "Michael come back to me." How tearful that was. Her emotions and behavior in this episode showed just how deeply she loves Michael (forget about Armand). She tried getting into the consulate via a "Fendi' though the guards kept her out. She lied to Sam because I figured she was hoping to take out Larry herself and be the heroine since Michael has saved her from evil before (Strickler or kidnappers in Where there's smoke?). However, it backfired. To me their love for each other really grew in this episode and it really showed. Now Michael has to work for another evil villain and he's doing it to keep Fiona out of prison. (I hope she can as her face and vehicle are on camera). If you notice in previous seasons, he always told Fi you can't come with me this time. She's with him now and it's no longer me, but us. I'm really hoping that Asher cut diamond ring will come by the end of the season.
You're right Joe. Their relationship has survived worse. I rewatched this episode again and the love they have for each other has deepened so much that I wouldn't doubt she would turn herself in to save him. Michael wouldn't allow it, but she would do it for him because she loves him. It was so evident in this episode the risks she took to save Michael.
Yep, the Michael and Fiona story keeps me watching and now I really want to see how it's going to wind up and I hope it only grows stronger by the end of the season.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
This has been the most disappointing season of Burn Notice so far. I hope this means Dead Larry is in fact dead.
ReplyDeleteI've enjoyed this season much more than last but tonight! GAH! That man is eeeeeeevil.

ReplyDeleteI only wish Fiona would have done Larry in with the bullets. Why did that glass have to be bulletproof?
ReplyDeleteWell said!!! I totally agree with you on that Asher cut diamond :)
