Guess what, ABC? A year and a half after she said she would "finish the show when my contract is up," Ellen Pompeo is open to continuing as Grey's Anatomy's Meredith. Just one problem: "I was invited for eight years — that was my contract — and no one has asked me for a day more," she says. "I know [creator] Shonda Rhimes has said the show will continue, but I wouldn't presume that they want to continue with me. You don't get dressed for the party if you don't have an invitation."
Assuming ABC does ask her to re-up (and that's a pretty safe assumption), Ellen seems game. "I would love the opportunity to discuss it," she says. "I would never turn up my nose at Grey's. As long as the stories are honest and truthful, and Patrick [Dempsey] and I feel there is material for us to be passionate about, it still beats a 9-to-5 job any day. If I hear from the fans that they want us to keep going, then I would continue because we owe them everything."

Not believing anything until a contract is signed.
ReplyDeleteSo true! And it looks like she'd just do it if Dempsey signed as well...
ReplyDeleteEllen and Patrick have obviously discussed it!!!! I think it's a case of if you stay I'll stay but if you leave then so will I and I think that's fair!!! I would hate to watch one without the other anyway!!!!! But if Shonda wants them then they'll have to get some real storylines and not just 30 seconds at the end of an episode, it's not fair to them!!! I wouldn't stay for that either!!!!
ReplyDeletei agree. I would prefer if one left they both left or they both stay. it wouldn't work, in my opinion, if there was only one of them on.
ReplyDeleteI so hope she and Patrick will stay, they are the heart of the show, as much as I love Mark and Lexie ;) Meredith is the real Grey of the show
ReplyDeleteWe all know what this means, this is code talk from. Give me more money.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good position to take. There could be a handful of reasons why a story like this would come out right now and just as many motives. This is definitely a "believe it when I see it" situation.
ReplyDeleteOh for goodness sake stop with all the games. The network should pull it's finger out and start the discussions. Clearly all the actors want to open the discussions now. PD is waiting for his film options. I suspect Ellen knows she's onto a good gig by staying if she gets pregnant again. How many other jobs make it so easy to either write in or cover up a pregnancy. I'd be very happy for her to stay and look forward to some interesting stories should PD and/or SO go. But equally if she goes there is still a show. I take the view that it is not who leaves but how many which will impact whether the show can carry on successfully.
ReplyDeleteLove this Woman! She is so grateful to her fans, her and PD, unlike Shonda Rhimes!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you re. EP. But not PD. He's totally playing the game, waiting for his movie schedule before moving. I don't hold this against him at all, it's part of the game but I don't think he's such a fan person.
ReplyDeleteHopeful that everyone will stay and Grey's will continue on.
ReplyDeleteKeep going Ellen....
