Interesting... a bit sad, but very interesting!
ReplyDeleteNo big surprises really... Well, maybe that Nikita is at the very bottom. I thought H8R would be bottom of the barrel.
So how are SPN still on CW? NOT that I'm complaining shoot me now! gosh I'll never understand these things
ReplyDeleteyou need to remember that Nikita is on friday night, it's normal to be lower...
ReplyDeleteand to be honest to show these numbers now, if they count the ratigfs for the whole week it's a bit unfair, the ratings were up all week long, so all shows are up...except for the friday shows who have ratings from last week, which was a really low week
supernatural doesnt really focus on W18-34 but A18-49
ReplyDeleteThat's okay..
ReplyDeleteThey'll renew 90210 and Gossip Girl because of their ratings in the 18-34 category and they'll renew Supernatural because there's something called common sense,so everybody is happy!
I think that the only show in trouble(apart from H8R and Top Model, for which I can offer no opinion because I have no idea what they are) is Nikita.
You shouldn't even be THINKING that...! :p
ReplyDeleteWith the new chief, I'm not so sure the W18-34 will still be their main goal in the next seasons.
ReplyDeleteWhich the Live+3 DVR (Meaning people who DVR'd it and watch it with in 3 days) acutally was a 50 percent increase from the Live+Same Day rating last week.
ReplyDelete0.8/2 Live+SD, with the Live+3 DVR rating it was 1.2/2.
It was acutally the second biggest increase for last week. between Live+SD and Live+3
I don't get why GG is considered the flagship show when 90210 beats it's ratings in every category including this one.
ReplyDelete:( I KNOW! but those numbers shocked me
ReplyDeleteI don't think GG could possibly be considered the flagship show anymore. It's got to be The Vampire Diaries.
ReplyDeleteGG actually beat 90210's target demo with premiere against premiere. 90210 beat it I think because their second episode increased and GG has yet to air the second episode of the season. I'm not saying GG will beat it again, it would have to increase too, but I'm just stating the numbers. GG had a .08 rating and 90210 had a .07 but increased to .09 second episode. It all depends on the next episode of GG compared with 90210. If 90210 can stick with the lead or GG will beat it who knows...
ReplyDeleteTaking into account all ratings I make NIKITA the weakest scripted show on the CW currently. I expect SC and Ringer to be getting full seasons since they're holding up quite well.
ReplyDeleteit makes them the most money?
ReplyDeleteI'm sad for Nikita... :/
ReplyDeleteI am both saddened and pleased with this. It's sad if the CW continues to niche market to only young women. Happy that Ringer was heavily promoted knowing that it wouldn't be typical CW fare. Here's hoping that the CW decides to diversify. And that Supernatural improves in the overall demos tonight.
ReplyDeleteSupernatural has been one of the CW's better performing dramas in the target demos (adults 18-49) but most importantly, it has a fan base that can survive and sometimes thrive on Friday nights, a time when networks tend to struggle. I also believe that the free publicity the fans give them (TV Guide cover) doesn't hurt either.
ReplyDeleteI think that depending on where the ratings stabilize, Gossip Girl and 90210 may have something to worry about. With Dawn Ostroff gone, their biggest fan is ousted. I will also be surprised if the CW stays with a young women focus. It's obviously not working for them and they need to do something to shake up their ratings.
ReplyDeleteIdk if they will stay with a young women focus, but if you take that away, if you take away the demos, most of these shows dont have many viewers left and the CW's attempts to go outside the box, like Nikita, haven't done as well as expected so it's up in the air whether they will continue to stick with the young women or if they decide to scrap it all and go back to the drawing board and only salvage a few. If they decide that then most of the shows are in danger. The only shoe in I know is TVD, everything else is anyone's guess.
ReplyDeleteThe CW can't afford to launch more than 2-3 new shows, so most shows will be safe provided the whole network doesn't crash and burn. The Vampire Diaries is their one sure bet but I'd say fans of any show that regularly scores below a 0.7 in demos should be worried.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you're right.Honestly,I don't know how things really work,I only have a general idea.
ReplyDeleteI've never watched or followed 90210 so I'm not sure about its fate.
I do follow GG a little bit more(usually catch up with it when all shows are on hiatus)and I think that when the decide to end it they'll give it a final season like the did with Smallville and OTH.My guess is that season 6 will be the final season. Also,I'm not sure, but I think I saw somewhere that the actors have a contract for six seasons.
Yes, that too which is why I think and said before that 90210 and GG would both be renewed if the numbers hold up. And I agree, anything with a 0.7 in demos should be worried.
ReplyDeleteThat's about what I expected. I'd like to see the gap in the demo between the top three and the rest of the pack.
ReplyDeleteWell that isn't very good looking...but the CW usually has less viewers than the bigger networks anyway, right? Should SPN fans be worried? I really hope the show gets some more views...it certainly deserves more! (More people watch H8R than SPN? Wow. just wow.)
ReplyDeleteno more women aged 18-34 watch H8R than SPN
ReplyDeleteGG used to beat 90210 in W 18-34 just not last week
ReplyDeleteIf so then -if you know of course- how many people would you estimate ACTUALLY watched the episode, Live and DVR all together? I'm terrible at math and estimation and you seem to know what you're talking about, lol. :)
ReplyDeleteDVR actually doesn't count much because people skip the commercials. Advertisers pay by the C3 (?) ratings which is approximately how many eyeballs are watching the commercials. They don't want to pay for a show if people are not watching their ads. C3 ratings are rarely reported to anyone but companies so they go by live rating numbers instead.
ReplyDeletePremiere against premiere:
ReplyDeleteGG: 0.7
90210: 0.9
CHEK YOUR INFO PLEASE! Thanks :)
90210 decreased to 0.7 in the second episode and grew to 0.8 in the third. GG has to air the second and third episode, wich I think will be the same as 90210: falls in the second and will grow in the third. Either way, 90210 is beating GG.
does anyone know the rankings of W18-34 from last week and premiere week so for the following
ReplyDeleteTuesday:
90210 (September 13)
90210 (September 20)
Ringer (September 13)
Ringer (September 20)
Thursday:
Vampire Diaries (September 15)
Vampire Diaries (September 22)
Secret Circle (September 15)
Secret Circle (September 22)
If so, it should post after the numbers come in for Supernatural and Nikita. Right now they are comparing different weeks for everything else.
ReplyDeleteI love the fact that this season the advertisers have been more enjoyable for me... Car ads, etc. There is still the ever present Old Navy, but those are nice as a change up, I just get really tired of seeing 5 per episode.
ReplyDeleteOoops, my fault, I don't watch 90210 so I wasn't aware that it aired 3 episodes. The premiere got .08 which is the same as GG got. They both got .08 according to the ratings table on this site of sept 14th for 90210 and sept 27 for GG , so CHECK YOUR INFO TOO PLEASE and thanks too ;) lol but you can't compare GG to 90210 just yet since GG has only aired one episode. They both get about the same numbers tbh so it won't be by a lot that they differ. I suspect both shows will be playing a back and forth game with 2nd and 3rd throughout the season, if all the numbers hold up that is.
ReplyDelete:D We are awesome.
ReplyDeleteThat makes me sick. This means that the shows that aren't as good are getting higher ratings.and they are only going by that age bracket and not all the viewers? If they went by all the viewers, Supernatural would a lot higher. i shop and buy a lot of stuff. I'm 58. This is dumbest thing I've heard of.
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of us over 49 who watch Supernatural. We attend the cons, shop, and spend the money on Supernatural, and most of don't watch the other shows. I do watch VPD once in a while. I never miss Supernatural completely. Tonight I watched the DVR but I had it taped. It will watched over and over until SEason 7 comes out on blu ray. The CW is hurting itself by doing this.
ReplyDeleteI'm sad for "Supernatural" and "Nikita"... They are the best shows on the CW right now.
ReplyDeleteYou're right. It was back when rumours circulated that Leighton Meester was leaving, and the CW said everyone was contracted for another 2 years, so that's this current season and one more.
ReplyDeleteThis is really interesting. Would it be possible to follow this week for week, Tariq? Maybe something along the lines of the Cancellation table.....? Pretty please!
ReplyDeleteI agree on the Ostroff angle. The new guy doesn't seem to share her taste in television. Though if they only cancel 2 shows this season, I'll swap one of the above for H8ter.
ReplyDeleteIncrease or disappear? I know you don't spend the hiatus watching back to back episodes of 90210. :P
ReplyDeletei'll try to make this a weekly thing :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome. Looking forward to it. And thank you!
ReplyDeleteTo see Spn almost at the bottom of this last is sad... but for me it will always be number one ;P
ReplyDeleteHeh. No, that's not what I meant. I just meant that instead of just the rankings, I would have also liked to get a look at the numbers too.
ReplyDeleteAh, right. Got it. My bad.
ReplyDeletedont worry spn fans it's just cause season 6 sucked and people lost intreast but it's is kicking ass and will go up no worrys
ReplyDeleteYay that Vampire Diaries is safe, but its a little upsetting to see Supernatural next to the bottom! Friday nights aren't treating it well! Too bad! its an awesome show!
ReplyDeleteNikita will be fine. The international exposure alone will allow the show to survive another couple seasons imo.
ReplyDeleteYea that's what I remember them saying last spring when Nikita was renewed, that the show has a huge international following and that alone would keep it going, which makes me very happy :)
ReplyDeleteNikita appears to have a really diverse fanbase with men, women and a lot of international viewers and I thought this was part of CW's future plans to diversify its target audience. I also read that the CW current president was going to make a set visit in the next month or so maybe these w all positive signs that there is some long term investment in Nikita? Overall viewership of 1.8 million is not bad but its target demo seems to skew more male, kinda like Supernatural?
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing an article a couple years back (in 2007??) regarding ratings and Dawn was one of the network heads that participated. She said that they look at Nielsen's, DVR #'s, and $ made from Merch (DVD sales etc). Correct me if I'm wrong but I think one thing Supernatural has going for it aside from the ratings is the fact that it is a WB production so $ made from DVD sales DL's etc goes right back into the network. Some of the other shows are produced by other networks so that $ isn't going back to the network. This fact might be something that keeps Supernatural going. Just my opinion. Doesn't mean that we shouldn't be watching live but I'm sure it is a factor in this day and age. Plus the CW most likely makes most of their money from sales... also Supernatural and Nikita might have lower expectations from the network seeing as they're in the dreaded Friday slot. And let's face it a good show on the network only has about 3-4 million Nielsen viewers on a good day. And for some reason it's been even lower. I wish they would change the schedule around and move the reality shows to Friday and the scripted shows to M-T.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping Gossip Girl gets renewed, but either way, I definitely hope that the writers are given enough notice to a cancellation so they can tie up some loose ends, especially the CB relationship!
ReplyDeletewill this be a weekly post?
