Hey Guys,
Yesterday was an action packed day with two polls that swung in different directions. An early lead for Malcolm Reynolds saw the Supernatural fans needing to rally early on to find a way for Castiel to edge past the Firefly lead. Once that happens it gets tough to beat and Castiel pulled away and took the largest amount of votes in R1 so far. In the other poll Sarah Walker held a small lead over Jack Shephard for the majority of the day, yet with around 8 hours Jack managed to draw level and then sneak the win by a tiny 14 votes. Talk about close...
Today sees two titular characters do battle with woman action hero Nikita challenging reluctant hero Chuck Bartowski for a place in R2 as well as Vampire Diaries' Caroline Forbes taking on Castle's Kate Beckett in the first all-woman battle of the competition.

For anyone new to the competition the rules are simple. Every day there will be a new set of polls between characters who are bidding to become the winner of the second STV Character Competition.
All you have to do is to vote for whichever characters are your favourite and at the end of the 24 hours whichever character has more votes will be the winner and will progress into the next round. There are three rounds before the quarter finals, semi finals and then the final...
Don't forget to tweet, facebook, google+ and spread the word about the characters and shows you love to try and boost your chances of winning.

ReplyDeleteOnly one I care about today is Kate Beckett. I don't think she will win but she's the best character in the mix. Will hold off voting in the first match although I expect Chuck to take this one easily.

ReplyDeleteAt least Jack pulled through. Today Chuck, since I don't watch Nikita and after having seen the Pilot episode of Castle a few days ago, I would prefer Kate. But due to the large VD fanbase I predicted her. :(

ReplyDeleteYou should try Castle. I am always hesitant to recommend a police procedural, especially since all cop show cases run together. However, Castle was a pleasant surprise. At first I couldn't stand Rick Castle (see comparisons to Patrick Jane and The Mentalist), but he grows on you with his quirky charm and ability to admit that he's wrong (unlike Jane). Beckett and the secondary characters are awesome, especially teen wonder Alexis. She's the first teen on TV I would actually like to know and one of the few that don't give teens a bad name. All in all Castle was my most pleasant surprise this summer, beating out The Walking Dead, The Mentalist, Haven, Fringe, Necessary Roughness, and many others I watched this summer. In fact, I liked it better than Leverage which was awesome once I learned to ignore all things Nate.
I'm hoping Labor Day weekend in the US puts a damper on VD participation in this contest so that Beckett can move on. Although Caroline was by far my favorite character in the one season I saw of VD, Beckett helped me to like Castle and makes the whole series grounded. I would love to see her go on to be beaten by Chuck. :-)

ReplyDeleteGenerally I don't have a problem with cop shows.I like NCIS and although I haven't seen the whole season Hawaii Five-O was also good.And Numb3rs for some reason is one of my all time favorite shows.The only cop show I'm staying clear from is CSI(no matter where it takes place).
I've heard before that Castle is good!It's worth a shot!
My most pleasant surprise for the summer(and probably the whole year) was White Collar.Amazing!
The next thing I'm gonna watch is The Walking Dead,cause the guy in my video club forced it in my hands today.And I wanted to watch The Event,but if I like it I'm gonna be pissed that it got cancelled.Last time that happened was with FlashForward and I'm still not over it.

ReplyDeleteI only voted in the second poll - and I voted for Caroline. She's one of the most fun and amazing characters I've lately seen on TV. I didn't like her in the beginning, but she developed into a great person with a charming sense of humour and a way to keep things real. She says what she thinks, and I like that. Also, I love how you could see how her character grew when she became a vampire. She was still the same Caroline, yet more mature within a matter of weeks.

ReplyDeleteNumb3rs and Cold Case are my two favorite crime shows. Glad to know there is still Numb3rs love out there. I too like NCIS (mostly because of Abby) and refuse to watch CSI (the whole franchise).
ReplyDeleteWhite Collar is my second favorite show after Supernatural. It has replaced Burn Notice which has fallen a bit this season. While I love Neal and Peter, White Collar is the second best show for me because of the secondary characters. Mozzie owns my heart and I think Elizabeth is one of the finest examples of a career woman on TV today. The whole Burke marriage is a refreshing change of pace. Jones and Diana complete the package and I am glad that they have both gotten some background now. Everything about White Collar is awesome these days (well, except Sarah).
I bought Walking Dead on sale this summer because everyone hyped it so much on this site. I hope you liked it better than I did. For me, it ties with The Mentalist as the worst thing I watched this summer. I found TWD to come in 2 flavors - vomiting or sleeping. I guess it's just not my thing. It took me several tries to find someone to take the DVDs off my hands. I only spent $10 but that was too much for me.
My only vote goes to KATE BECKETT of CASTLE.

Your posts are disgusting me, Dahne. Watch the verbiage please. Just because you've a weak stomach doesn't mean TWD was awful. Besides, it wasn't given enough episodes for a full season in my opinion. I wouldn't say it was my favorite show of the summer or anything but they way you put it is a bit over the top.

ReplyDeleteWhat's not to love. Two brothers on a mission to save the world from evil. The older brother is protective and sometimes a hothead who is good with a gun. The younger brother uses his brains to find out what they are up against. In all episodes when they work together, things go much better. If only they would throw in a cool classic car, it would remind me of another show I adore. Oh, one more change - Alan was an excellent father so score that one for the Epps brothers
ReplyDeleteThe Walking Dead was awful...to me. Just my opinion. I truly hope that Kat likes it better than I did. For me it was a waste of $10 good dollars. If Patrick Jane wasn't such a self-absorbed, arrogant narcissist, the Walking Dead would have been by far the worst thing I watched this summer. I kept watching the whole season because I was told that it would get less vomit-inducing and indeed it did. Unfortunately, when the gore wasn't there to keep me upright, the show practically put me to sleep. The pacing is way too off for me. That's why I said, "I guess it's just not my thing." Obviously, it found plenty of fans on this site and in the critic world. I doubt they will miss me.
ReplyDeleteFair warning though, I am 6 episodes of Fringe away from writing my summer TV show review. In it I will be more brutally honest than I am here on all shows I watched. I'll probably pull in some from last year too, including Firefly, Vampire Diaries, and Veronica Mars. It's bound to tick off big time fans, but that's the great thing about doing an opinion piece. It's only my opinion so for me, it's right.
