Hey Guys,
Yesterday saw a convincing win for Peter Bishop over Patrick Jane seeing Fringe claim their first place in round two, and in a not all too surprising result Meredith Grey proved that having a bigger audience helps as she saw off Walter White from small cable show Breaking Bad. If it's any consolation for BB fans, to give the GA star such a close run was impressive itself.
Today is where the competition really cranks it up a notch as we have Jack Shepherd from LOST challenging Sarah Walker from Chuck as well as Castiel from Supernatural taking on Malcolm Reynolds of the short lived Firefly. All four shows have very passionate fans, and so it will be very interesting to see who comes out on top!

For anyone new to the competition The rules of the competition are simple. Every day there will be a new set of polls between characters who are bidding to become the winner of the second STV Character Competition.
All you have to do is to vote for whichever characters are your favourite and at the end of the 24 hours whichever character has more votes will be the winner and will progress into the next round. There are three rounds before the quarter finals, semi finals and then the final...
Don't forget to tweet, facebook, google+ and spread the word about the characters and shows you love to try and boost your chances of winning.

ReplyDeleteAdam I agree w/you. Can't go wrong with Jack! Lost was not just a show but a passion for me. Met Charlie at Comic Con. Talking to him brought all the greatness of Lost back to life. I love FireFly/Malcolm but I will always pick Castiel. He's my hero. I love when he would pop in to save the boys.

Voted Jack and Mal, but went with Jack and Cas in the bracket. I'm a fan of all 4 of today's characters, but Sarah has nothing on a character as fully developed as Jack and, while Cas is great, Mal is fantastic.

Jack Shepherd was not one of my favorite Lost characters, but I loved watching Lost and Jack gets my vote.

I liked LOST but I recently got into Chuck and loved it, so my vote goes to Sarah Walker. And of course, Castiel, which I don't really need to explain, do I? :D

ReplyDeleteSarah is of the best things about Chuck. She was campy and fun in the first 2 seasons. However, I am completely surprised that she is winning against Jack as he is usually so popular around here. I'm not a fan of LOST so I'm good if it stays this way although my bracket will have issues.
The match between Castiel and Mal is no issue for me. Castiel all the way. However, if this was a match between Cas and Rick Castle all bets would be off. Big fan of Nathan Fillion, not a big fan of Capt. Mal.
Voted for Sarah (couldn't get into Lost) and Malcolm - but have Jack and Castiel in my bracket...
ReplyDeleteCas vs Mal was the hardest match for me to predict because they largely pull from the same fanbase and both shows are hugely popular here. The reason I wavered so much is because I believe whoever takes this match will get to the Elite 8 unless Chuck stops them so picking wrong would break my bracket. In the end, I chose Castiel because there is a big section of Supernatural fans that are fighting to keep Cas on the show. This is a good way for them to show their Cas love. That being said, this is one of the major early rounds that could truly go either way.

ReplyDeleteI like Chuck, but I was and am a Lost fan: Jack Shepherd. I really don't understand all the whining about Firefly. It wasn't all that good. No wonder it got cancelled. I like Supernatural and Castiel is my favorite character, so that wasn't hard.

I didn't vote in the first one since I don't/didn't watch Chuck or Lost, but the second one had to be Mal for me. Love Supernatural, but Firefly... well, it's Firefly. How could I vote against Mal?

I'm an SPN fan and I put Cas losing in round three against Chuck. I just don't think there are enough Cas fans within SPN fandom to beat the power of the Chuck fandom for their main character.
ReplyDeleteI looked at the Chuck final season factor and debated a long time over this one too. Regardless, whoever makes it to the elite 8 will be stopped by the powerhouse that is Peter Bishop in my opinion. Only person who might be able stop him is Katherine Pierce.
ReplyDeleteThis one will go to the wire and may end up being which fan base is out of town for Labor day in the States. I think the strong support comes in the fact that it is Chuck's last season. Similar to how Clark Kent did very well last year but didn't even make it into the contest this year.
ReplyDeleteHa! I'd be pretty excited if so many of us were wrong so quickly in the contest. (I would be one of them.) It would give everyone a better chance at winning and make it a tighter race in my opinion. Plus it makes the whole contest more of a wild card. All equaling better entertainment before the fall shows premiere.
ReplyDeleteYou may be right. Chuck will be big competition, although I don't think there is as much Chuck-Supernatural fandom overlap anymore as there is Fringe-Supernatural. I still think Cas will prevail over Chuck but lose to Peter. However, this was a match that I wavered on more than most. Both fandoms are strong and they've gone against each other before. It will really be Chuck vs Supernatural - TV Guide cover part 4. I think it will be less about the characters.

ReplyDeleteI think that until the final 8 the show which the characters are coming from will also play a very big role.So,I can see Castiel winning over Chuck.
After that the choices will be mostly based on the characters themselves.There are a lot people who love both Fringe and Supernatural.Peter has an advantage,that's for sure,but I don't think anything is certain.I was wondering if the season finale would affect the votes that Cas gets,but I don't think it has.He's close to 2000 votes(far more than Peter and Patrick combined)against a pretty tough opponent.Anything can happen!

Thank god Jack won. I dont like him but my bracket would have been ruined if he'd lost. I still think my bracket will end up being ruined in round two though but at least it wont have been in round one :)

ReplyDeleteI don't think that Katherine will win over Peter but if anyone in that region could, it would be Katherine. Looking at past polls, the Vampire Diaries crowd is hit or miss on SpoilerTV. Sometimes they come in with huge numbers and sometimes the show barely squeaks by. It will all depend on which one it is on that given day. (If both make it that far that is.)
ReplyDeleteI agree. There is no doubt to me that this contest reflects the show more often than it does the character. That might not be right, but most people will vote for their favorite shows regardless of what they think of that particular character. Generally that will change if it's a character someone particularly despises or when people have two shows they like against each other and then it comes down to character. Otherwise people tend to vote their show. That's why I think that if the Vampire Diaries is hot on the day the poll airs, Katherine COULD, but probably won't, beat Peter.
It is also possible that Castiel would beat Peter too for the same reason - he's on a very popular SPTV show. However, in the best show competition Fringe fans came out in spades. If the choice is a Supernatural character vs a Fringe character, I think we are guaranteed a repeat. It will be tougher to win though because both Peter and Castiel went through major changes at the end of the season. Since Castiel (and the angel storyline) is somewhat divisive and because many Supernatural fans are also fans of Fringe, I think Peter has an advantage in this match.
You're right though that anything could happen. It all depends on which fandoms awake and come out roaring in a particular 24 hours. I wonder how much summer being over and show premiere schedules will play a part in the results. I think it's a given that any show that premieres the day before one of its characters is in a round will cause a bounce in the voting.
If only winning polls would get them to let Cas to stay on the show!!
