Warehouse 13 - Kate Mulgrew interview

Thanks to Bruce_F for the heads up.

On August 29, former Star Trek: Voyager skipper Kate Mulgrew joins the cast of Syfy's Warehouse 13 in a four-episode arc as Jane, a character who will prove to have a profound impact on the Warehouse — and one of its occupants with whom she shares a past.

"She is a Regent, a very important Regent," says series creator Jack Kenny. "Her first episode ("The 40th Floor"), will make her relationship to the Warehouse and everyone in it vital. And for the next three episodes that Kate is in (9/12's "Shadows," 9/26's "Emily Lake" and the 10/3 season ender titled "Stand"), we'll learn a lot more about how the Regents are chosen, how they affect the Warehouse, and in particular how Jane will have a very strong impact on Pete (Eddie McClintock) and Myka (Joanne Kelly)."

After Kate wrapped production in Toronto, I chatted up Star Trek's former Captain Janeway from her New York home about what we can expect from her latest Jane.

TV Guide Magazine: So, what was it about this character that enticed you into playing another Jane?
Mulgrew: She has mystical and magical powers beyond all articulation. I play an important part regarding the future of the Warehouse, and also its history. You will increasingly understand her mysterious value to the warehouse and everybody in it.

TV Guide Magazine: Tell us more about these powers.
Mulgrew: One of the Warehouse's artifacts has fallen to me to be worn on my person. Within this artifact resides a continuity and promise that no other single artifact bears. So I must protect it and it, in turn, will protect us.

TV Guide Magazine: Jane apparently shares a special connection to one of the core characters. What can you hint about this?
Mulgrew: I would say in my four-episode journey, many perils are withstood and there seems to be a profound awareness the audience cannot understand regarding one of the characters. It is a relationship without which the Warehouse itself would probably have no value.

TV Guide Magazine: Your loyal Star Trek devotees follow you wherever you go. Any attributes Jane shares with Janeway?
Mulgrew: Yes. You're chosen for the features you have that are outstanding. I think I have a certain strength and clarity with a twinkle. And Jane has all those things.
