Renewed, Cancelled or Pulled - 2011/12 - ABC Edition

12 Aug 2011

I'd thought we'd have a bit of fun in trying to predict which shows you think will get renewed, which ones cancelled and which ones pulled before the end of the season.

So today we start with ABC. We'll do this for all the major networks over the next few days and then we'll compile all the results. Then as the season goes along we'll keep a scorecard to see how accurate the predictions have been.

Vote in the polls below and let us know which shows you think will get renewed/cancelled and pulled.

  3. That's fun. I don't believe in the new ABC shows, but we'll see when they eventually air. I hope The River's gonna be good and I hope that Once Upon a Time will be a hell lot better than in the trailers.

  4. this looks like fun! I think that unless the ratings fail most of the old series will get another season.

  6. I like that set of polls.  I seemed to have voted a lot of 'cancelled' though.

  7. There are some CRANKY people out there to vote that Modern Family, Castle, and Grey's Anatomy will be pulled early.  Man, who peed in their Cheerios?

  8. As long as Grey's Anatomy doesn't get cancelled i will be happy.

  9. well that was fun !
and a big YAY for Castle !!! 95.38% say renewed ! that's a relief !  I AM IN LOVE WITH THE SHOW !!

  10. wow, so many shows I don't know... I only voted in those I know! which are:

Renewed: Body of Proof, Castle, Modern Family, Once upon a time

Cancelled: Charlie's Angels, Cougartown, Grey's Anatomy

what does 'Pulled early' means? I'm confused, does it mean to be cancelled before releasing all the episodes? or what? XD I think that makes sense, but I'm not sure! :P

  11. Yep, that's what pulled early means :)

  12. I only voted the ones I know or have read about it... I really hope Castle and Cougar Town will renew

  13. I think it says something about Television Viewers when ever single established show gets a "renewed" while every single new show (save for Once Upon a Time) gets a "canceled".

I'm surprised Work It got a "canceled" and not a "pulled early".

All of that being said, ABC has always been my favourite network. This next season isn't looking too good for them.

  14. Renewed:
    Apartment 23
    Castle
    Cougartown
    Good Christian Belles
    Modern Family
    Pan Am
    Revenge
    Suburgatory

    Cancelled:
    Body of Proof
    Charlie's Angels
Grey's Anatomy (don't think the main starts will renew their contracts)
    Happy Endings
    Last man Standing
    Man Up
    Once upon a time
Private Practice (50/50 on this one, but I think it should be cancelled)
    Scandal
    The River
    Work It

Don't know which ones I think will get pulled early. Probably some of the new shows.

  15. Renewed :

    - Castle (no-brainer).
    - Body of Proof (same here, the combo with DWTS works).
    - Grey's Anatomy (some major cast members might not come back for season 9 but ABC will renew it anyway).
    - Private Practice (not nearly as popular as Grey's but ABC won't let it go the same year as DH).
    - Modern Family (the most obvious renewal of all).
    - The Middle (the little show that could).
    - Cougar Town (because of the following the show has).
    - Apartment 23 (I feel like this show will have good reviews and a mild success).
    - Good Christian Belles (mostly because Desperate Housewives ends, ABC will want this one to come back).
    - Scandal (it airs on the Shonda Rhimes network, it will get a second season).
    - Pan Am (maybe it'll be the Good Wife of ABC, finally a critically acclaimed drama and they won't cancel it).
    - Once Upon a Time (it could be a huge hit, it could be a massive flop, but I tend to think people will go for it).

    Cancelled :

    - Happy Endings (I wonder why it didn't even got cancelled last season, it was a complete flop).
    - Last Man Standing (the ratings will be almost as bad as Man Up's, but there's Tim Allen here).
    - The River.
    - Revenge.
    - Missing.
    - Suburgatory (I don't think the combo with The Middle will work, it's not the same kind of humor).

    Pulled early :

    - Charlie's Angels (given the competition and the looks of it, it'll flop quicky).
    - Man Up.
    - Work It (I won't be surprised if it doesn't even air, or if it ends up being pushed to the summer).

  16. I hope GCB will be a success.

  17. Seems most people think new shows will go to Cancelville. Hardly surprising, given ABC track record.

  18. Who voted Castle to be canceled or pulled early???? ESPLAINE(Heehee) YOURSELVES! Castle is THE BEST SHOW EVER. :DD And I don't watch any of the other shows sooo...

  19. I like how besides the returning shows and Once Upon A Time, everything else is voted as will be CANCELLED. If these polls end up being correct, that would mean that ABC will need an entirely new lineup with lots and lots of new shows....again. lol

That being said however, I honestly do NOT get what all the hype is about Once Upon A Time. To me it looks like a cheap Disney Channel or ABC Family movie. The show I am looking most forward to is Pan Am, and I really hope that it will perform well in ratings.

  20. This season is going to be another bloodbath at ABC:
(veteran shows not listed are presumed renewed)

    Cancelled:
    Once Upon A Time
    Pan Am
    Private Practice
    Happy Endings
    Scandal
    The River

    Pulled:
    Man Up
    Work It
    Revenge
    Last Man Standing

    Freshman Renewals:
Good Christian Bitches ("Belles" can jump in a lake)
    Apartment 23
    Suburgatory

    ReplyDelete
  21. Castle is renewed, of course :D

    ReplyDelete
  22. I am after a long day of work, but isnt The Middle missing?
As for the others i believe Castle will get renewed and if the lead actors leave Grey's I hope its gets cancelled.

  23. Obviously you are doing this for ABC, CBS & NBC, and I assume Fox and CW.  Would also be nice to see it for some of the main cable channels too, like HBO, Starz, USA, Syfy, etc.

Syfy hasn't announced their fall lineup yet, but I expect it on Monday or Tuesday.

  24. Wow.  You're a lot more optimistic about ABC this season than I am.  I'm also surprised about your negative predictions for Suburgatory and Apt. 23.  To me, they're the only two shows who have a real shot at success at ABC this season.

Also, if you don't mind, I'd love to know why you chose Charlie's Angels to get renewed.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Don't really like any shows on ABC but Castle.

  26. My gut tells me that enough people will like the mindless "fun" of Charlie's Angels to save it for its first season. Personally I think it will be terrible, but I think some of the top rated shows on TV are terrible!

Yes I'm talking to you Grey's and Desperate!

None of the sitcoms looked good tome honestly, but I thought Apt 23 was the best of the bunch. Suburgatory was a let down to me. I love the premise but I just did not find any preview very funny. With sitcoms though I tend to not agree with many people on here. I hate the NBC sitcoms and love CBS sitcoms. *shrug*

-I thought Pan Am was far better than I expected, and I think a lot of peole will have that opinion. I could be wrong easily though.

-Belles seems like a neutral replacement for Desperate Housewives viewers and DH is ending next year.

-Last Man Standing is Tim Allen.... I hate everything about his shows and movies, but he has a following ..

-Once Upon a Time I think has a built in family fanbase and will do "OK".... will Okay be enough  I think it will for a season.

    - The River I have hopes for... that was purely a wishful thinking vote honestly. I think it has huge potential to fail miserably..... but I hope it succeeds!

Think that covers the new series for the most part :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Perhaps the fact that you only watch Castle is the reason you think it's the best show ever? :) It's a great show for sure, but not the best ever, IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I voted Private Practice cancelled... not sure why I listed it as renewed....

If ABC hands out as many renewals as you predict, I bet the network would easily cancel this.  It doesn't hold a lot of Grey's audience, the show skews much older, and it's just not very good.

-Once Upon a Time I think has a built in family fanbase and will do "OK".... will Okay be enough  I think it will for a season.

Wouldn't your "one and done" prediction put it in the cancel category?

Anyway, I've come to the realization that genre/sci-fi/fantasy television just isn't sustainable on network TV.  Especially not in the long term.  The audience just isn't broad enough.  There are some exceptions you can count with one hand but the failure rate is astronomical.  If it's not on a cable network, it's going to tank and if it doesn't it will be a continuous struggle to retain its audience and stay on the air.

If Once Upon A Time turns out to be good I'd love for it to be a success but, in my mind, there's really no factual or anecdotal evidence telling me that it's likely.

  29. I quite liked the premise of OUaT honestly, but those damned first promos made me think it's doomed to fail. Then there was a lot of postive feedback here, and new photos came out followed by new promos and both were more promising....

I guess honestly I don't have a handle on Once Upon A Time yet. If it's decent I think it will get renewed .... I'm just not sure a decent show will get a second renewal. One yes... two... doubtful but maybe. I think it has to be very good to get a second renewal....I agree that fantasy has little leeway on network TV.

  30. Wow 7 ppl really think Castle will get pulled early? Castle is doing quite well for ABC, I doubt that will happen at all this season

    ReplyDelete
  31. So what I learned here is that I don't watch ABC and have no idea what they will be showing next year.  I thought I was pretty up on the pilot season but there's a bunch here I've never heard of.  What's up with the one word titles also?

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think Charlie's Angels will tank too, not even a full season, mostly because remakes don't so well.  I also voted Private Practice as cancelled but that's just a gut check.  I hope Once Upon a Time succeeds but the odds are stacked against it.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Castle has the best ratings for a scripted show on ABC, right?  It's in absolutely no danger of being canceled.

    ReplyDelete
  34. May not be the best show ever but it surely has the numbers to make thinking it would be cancelled a bit nuts.  :-)

    ReplyDelete
  35. At this point, I don't think SyFy knows what it is airing.  They keep changing their minds.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Castle will totally be safe again this year.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Why oh why are the remaking Charlies Angels. come on ABC.... Cant see this lasting more than 6 eps

    ReplyDelete
  38. What next The A Team, Chips, Starsky and Hutch, I'll stop there I might give them more stupid ideas

    ReplyDelete
  39. Castle, Couger Town, Grey's and Modern Family are totally safe
