This was a beyond awesome episode! Much better than I thought; I loved the ending, even if I did cry a bit. So many amazing parts I'll have to def watch again and pick out my favorites. Easily Top 5 episode of the season. Lucas Bryant is astounding <3
Groundhog Day episodes or movies rarely do anything for me and this was no exception. If you figure out parts of the plot you are stuck having to watch things repeat over and over anyway.. .meh.
It had some good moments though and I did love the final scene with Audrey looking into the bar with all three of her men there and just diving behind the corner feeling overwhelmed.
It was better than I expected. But they logic knocked me out early. Why summon her to the hit and run crime scene if they didn't want her at the scene. It felt like the ep was suposed to give us (and Audrey) some insight on how she feels about the three men in her life...but the rewind worked so quickly that I didn't feel like Audrey was ever able to get past shock and 'I can't let that happen again.' Also, it felt kind of like a cheat to put Jason Priestly's character in the mix because they seemed to fall into bed so quickly. He was never given a chance to get on equal footing with Duke and Nathan.
The show brought up the comparison to Groundhog Day. The thing that movie did that this episode didn't do (for me at least) was to give the main character some growth. He learned something about himself and grew. That's element of this episode that fell flat for me.
This was absolutely one of the best Haven's to date. The writers (and directors) are really starting to get to that excellent balance of sci-fi, drama, and bits of humor (both dark & light) that I'd hoped for with this series.
The episode actually relates not as much to Ground Hog day but to a Season 6 X-files episode called “Monday” where Scully relives the same day going to the bank tries over & over & over to stop a robbery that always ends in one or more people dying. Same as Parker, Scully keeps trying to alter things, but can’t prevent the deadly results (same as in “Parkers Day Off”).
“Monday” had a dark “you-really-can’t-change-fate” quality to it, & the repeating day only ends when the REAL “fated” person (a surprise) dies (same as in “Parkers Day Off”).
"Monday" remains one of my all-time Fav. X-files episodes, as "Parkers Day Off" now is. As soon as I saw the day “re-runs” start, I knew one of the writers had taken “Monday” and expanded it brilliantly.
The use of the music at the end sequence had me in tears. They’re using the score to punctuate and add to the emotion in the episodes better very week... BRAVO!
It’s really great to see a series develop so quickly. I second the "more Balfour" comment, different reasons. He’s just such an incredibly good actor.
A small but really touching & important moment happens when Nathan is dying in the street and says “It’s ok, I don’t feel anything.. except you”... They’d gone back to Nathan can’t feel Audrey’s touch in the previous episode when she reaches across the table at the Gull & clearly Nathan doesn't feel it.
Ok, to the SUPER-PICKY.... A script impossibility: Audrey, turns on the radio to prove to others she already knows this day (idea borrowed from the movie “Frequency”) It's a Red Sox game ENDING before noon... ummm not on this planet!
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
So good!

poor Audrey stick in the same day for 5 days ; it's horrible
ReplyDeleteAlthough it was predictable, it was enjoyable enough. I think the fact that she couldn't save the guy was the only real interesting part.
