NBC Nightly News host Brian Williams won’t be the only one in the Williams family in the spotlight after daughter, Allison Williams, makes her HBO debut in the Judd Apatow-produced upcoming new series, “Girls.”
“They just wrapped shooting in New York,” Brian told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Access Hollywood Live on Friday in New York City.
“I’m very proud of her. She aced college, something her dad didn’t do, and she’s going to be in an HBO series called ‘Girls,’” the newsman said.
“It’s young women, post-college, struggling to get by in New York City,” he said of the series that he believes will hit the air in spring 2012.
“Like a younger ‘Sex and The City,’ but not as sort of tawdry?” Kit asked.
“Right, I think [it is] probably grittier, more metropolitan,” he explained.
Brian warned that he didn’t think it was going to resemble another, more male-dominated, HBO series.
“Someone has said ‘Entourage’ for girls, but I think that’s probably inaccurate,” he continued. “It’s not the fun [those characters] have and the kind of living the life like they do.”
The proud father isn’t worried about his daughter getting caught up in the pitfalls of Hollywood.
“Since she was about 4, she’s had her head screwed on straight,” he told Billy and Kit. “I stand back and admire her. She has always done the right thing.”
