Game of Thrones - Casting News - **UPDATE** Oona Chaplin Is Jeyne

12 Aug 2011

Yesterday I came across an interview with Oona Chaplin who is currently on the BBC series "The Hour". During said interview, Ooona mentions, " I’ve got a part in Game of Thrones."

No confirmation has been found yet, however, while looking for confirmation I did see that Chaplin is a client of the Troika Agency who are also manage Richard Madden (Robb Stark), Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister, Carice van Houten (Melisandre) and Hannah Murray (Gilly). HBO definitely has a connection to that agency for whatever that's worth as proof.

Up til now Oona has had small roles and is most famous for her famous grandparents. Yes Oona Chaplin as in Charlie Chaplin and Oona Chaplin's granddaugheter and great grandaughter of Eugene O'Neill.

Until we have confirmation we have her video showreel.

*****UPDATE***** Oona Chaplin is Jeyne, but noe confirmation on which Jeyne!

LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

Oona Chaplin, the granddaughter of Charlie Chaplin, has joined the cast of “Game of Thrones” for Season 2, Access Hollywood has confirmed.

Access has learned Oona will play Jeyne.

A last name was not given for the character, but there are a handful of Jeyne’s in the books from writer George R. R. Martin.

Sansa Stark has a best friend named Jeyne. Additionally, another Jeyne, enters the series in book 2, as – in the most spoiler-free way possible — a friend of sorts of another of Eddard Stark’s children.

I had assumed she will play Jeyne Westerling on initially reading that Oona was cast in Game of Thrones. Jeyne Poole doesn't make a lot of sense to me really. The age is a bit off. The only description of Jeyne Poole I recall is that she is a very pretty girl.

Jeyne Westerling on the other hand has a few references to her appearance.
- Jeyne is a shy, pretty girl though not a beauty to lose a kingdom for.
- She is slender of posture.
- has chestnut curls and heart-shaped face and brown eyes.

That sounds alot like Oona Chaplin to me!

  1. My first reaction was Jeyne Westerling personally, but she does fit the visual image I had for Meera Reed aged 5 or 10 years.
Here are some more pics of her.

  2. That would be a very impressive role for her if she could get Ygritte!

After watching her showreel I am honestly MORE confused as to who she would play.

  3. She looks wrong for Ygritte, too old for Meera Reed (as I imagine her) but Jeyne Westerling?  Perfect.

  4. But the Westerlings doesn't appear since S3, right? And, assuming Jon Snow is older than the books, Ygritte also has to be older.

  5. Totally my thought process...( unless they age Meera like some of the other roles).

It can be so difficult to guess these things. I would have NEVER pictured Natalia Tena cast as Osha. Completely against her character in the books, but she was cast as Osha and did a great job!

  6. Jeyne doesn't appear herself until book 3, but she does meet Robb at the Crag after the battle in Book 2.  We just don't "witness" it. We hear in Book 3 that that's where Robb met her.

Since they have been hinting at expanding Robb's role some in Season 2... and the Jeyne/Robb love story, we may meet her earlier than in the books.

  7. I don't know how comfortable I am with all of these aged potential love interests. First Gendry, now Meera. To be fair, maybe I'm reading too much into her friendship with Bran. And I'm usually not one to whine about how "OH NO THEY'RE RUINING IT BY AGING THEM UP". I'm fine with most age choices. I just thought I'd complain a little :P.

  8. The thing is... she said "a role" ... not a big rol. For all we know she could be handmaiden #2 in scene 14... some extra, something like Quiathe that makes an appearance or two and is done, or even some new role in scenes made for the TV series and not in the books.

  9. She too good looking for Ygritte. I could see her as Jeyne alright or maybe Meere but she doesn't good quite right for Meere

    ReplyDelete
  10. Right. Don't know why I jumped to that conclusion. I suppose it started out as an argument for why I don't think it would be Meera xD.

  11. I really dislike the idea of them moving that into the season 2. I really saw it as the love story more of I was not sure that Robb love her more did the right thing by her....

  12. Jeyne is small enough role in the 3rd book really, but may become more important as the future books

  13. I don´t think she fits as Meera and Ygritte, but maybe Jeyne. But who knows - she might have a really small part.

I think it´s ok that they move the Robb/Jeyne story into season 2. Robb needs some kind of story (just like Jaime) and There is plenty of storylines for him in season 3.

  14. Ha!

No I understand your point. I can;t say it better than Lina posted on WiC,
"The magic of the Reeds for me is the way they give Bran this little “coming of age adventure” storyline. Like Stand By Me with frogs and stories and magical folklore. I love Meera as a character because she’s simultaneously a tomboy and a Wendy Darling: She hunts and treks through forests and swamps, yet she also plays mother to this little band of lost boys. I really hope they include her, and don’t change her to be an older woman. I don’t want her to just be some chaperone."

  15. seems a good Ygritte for me if that is the role! :)

  16. Here's 3 AMok portraits to add to the discussion... or not. XD

  17. You just read the early books,  none of the Sand Snakes appear in books 2 or 3 do they?
She has that look to her... or how I pictured them. Too bad they appear a book or two later.

  18. chestal Pssst.
Here's a Spanish article about Oona... There could be more clues inside and I only trust Google translate so much.. XD

  19. OMG XDDD is she Spanish? shame on me, I didn't know that! lol
the article says exactly the same as this post, that HBO hasn't say anything about it, but Oona said in an interview in The Daily Telegraph that she'll had a role in the show... I'll investigate in Spanish webs and if I find something, I'll tell you! :)

  20. I just started Book 4 actually and am 1/6 done. Sam and Arya are REALLY interesting and Cersei is alright. Brienne is a bit annoying and I don't know how invested I am in Dorne or the Iron Islands yet (i've only read one Damphair and one Areo Hotah chapter).

That being said, yes, I've meet 3 of the sand snakes (Obara, Nym, and Tyene I believe). They seem interested and yes, she does fit the part!

    ReplyDelete
  21. :)
I thought I read you mention you were from Spain or something about Spanish in a post this week. I figured I 'd trust you more than a web translator! XD

    ReplyDelete
  22. especially google translator! xD sometimes I use it and it's like... WTF? XD and yes, I'm Spanish so if you have a doubt someday, feel free to ask me! :)
by the way, I've find other Spanish articles about this, but they all say the same! :/

  23. Seems like everyone is just reporting the one sentence in the article I posted and then guessing. Like all of us! XD

    ReplyDelete
  24. yes xD we are so eager for news that we create millions of posts with only one sentence which is so general that it's ridiculous xD but guessing is soooo fun!! :D

    ReplyDelete
  25. She is half English half Chiliean. And that article in Spanish doesn't say who she'll play...

    ReplyDelete
  26. Wow, pretty interesting that she is Charlie Chaplin's granddaughter.

    ReplyDelete
  27. HBO just confirmed that she ll be playing Jeyne.
    Westerling or Pool.HBO aint telling.yet ;)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Thanks I was out... Updated the post with source info and opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I think I'll like her as Jeyne Westerling... not sure I can see her as Poole....

    ReplyDelete
  30. I hope it is Jeyne Westerling, she would fit that part the best.

  31. Robert Pugh has been cast as Craster. He looks great for the part. Don´t know him as an actor though. Can´t wait to see Craster and his ..... family. I LOVE everything that´s going on North of the wall.

    ReplyDelete
  32. That was my first instinct when I read she was cast, I didn't picture her looking like Oona, but honestly I never had a real clear precise image of her in my mind. I also forgot her grandmother was most Eastern.

"Tywin says to Tyrion  "The grandmother was some woman he'd brought back from the East." ASoS (Chapter 20 - Tyrion 3)

-Right age fir her romantic love interest to be.
    -Chestnut curls
    -Brown eyes
    -Heart-shaped face
    -Slender posture

She fits every single trait with the one possible exception of heart-shaped face, but in many of her photos she does actually look to have a heart-shaped face even. Then in others it seems like she has long narrow featured....Really depends on her hair style and, make-up and camera angle.

    ReplyDelete
  33. well, she was born in Spain, that was the reason I say she was Spanish...:P and yes, the article doesn't say anything :(

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm really looking forward to the North in Season Two. I think the Wall and Jon's story is one of the most interesting of the saga. Maybe because it's one of the biggest  mysteries... hinted at but not quite known for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Can't wait for the next season.  Loved the books and now loving the show.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I agree. The Wall is the best part. I just read aDwD and have to say that Jons story was (once more) the best part of it. Can´t wait to see Craster, Gilly, Ygritte and Mance on the screen. So now we just need castings for Ygritte and Mance.

    ReplyDelete
  37. She fits all the features and I think Jeyne Westerling will have a big part in season 2. I´m ok with them moving this story up.

    ReplyDelete
  38. OMG....I really need to start reading the books! I got spoiled a bit last season, especially about Ned's fate and then like an idiot i read a few character bios on wiki! urgh! :(

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yeah Wiki really does have some serious spoilers so avoid if if you don't want info on every book.
    Sorry to hear :(.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Excellent, guessed her character correctly.

    ReplyDelete
  41. This is really cool news!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Oh pretty Oona, please be the lovely Jeyne Westerling :) Although you have no place in Season 2.
