A trailer released for a new TV show in Afghanistan called “The Ministry” looks very much like it will be the Afghan version of the American comedy series “The Office,” which was inspired by the British version.
Instead of following the employees of the fictional Dunder-Mifflin paper company, “The Ministry” follows the everyday life of the officers at the Ministry of Garbage, including a sleepy security guard, underappreciated butler, man-hating secretary, and bumbling Minister.
But “The Ministry” trailer indicates that the show will tackle deeper issues than “The Office” does, including the rampant corruption problem in the country. At one point in the trailer, the secretary lists off the needs of Parliament members to the minister: one wants 10 security vans, another wants him to authorize his drug trafficking business, and a third wants him to hire all his cousins.
