Warehouse 13 - Spinoff coming?

14 May 2011

Thanks to BGoodMonkey for the heads up.

Warehouse 13 show runner Jack Kenny is prepping a spinoff series for Syfy based on the following concept:
While it is still in the early stages and thus subject to change, the idea is to put Wells in a 1890s steam punk environment. Despite Warehouse 12's efforts to recruit her, she would remain a free agent who uses her knowledge of contemporary science to solve murders and other mysteries.

In this incarnation, she would enlist the help of a mechanical engineer and utilize her relationship with the police commissioner to solve what appear to be unsolvable cases. Both the skills and style she employs will become the framework for the well-known stories of H.G. Wells, as written by her brother.

  1. I really don't care what anyone says, this show is not good. Syfy should be trying to make quality shows such as Battlestar rather than churning out shows like this. Syfy seems to be the only network content in sub par programming.

  2. I love Warehouse 13 and I love the idea and I hope, it's going to be filmed. I have to laugh most of the time when I look W13 and I think H.G. Wells is a great character. It should be really really good.

  3.  Sounds like a great idea for a spin-off. Really exciting. :)))

BTW Wells' brother, IRL, was a disgusting racist who believed it was a government's duty to sterilize the poor so that they wouldn't reproduce. (He believed you were poor because of genetic defect, even though at the time it had been proven that poverty was generally caused by death of the breadwinner, old age, illness, or having too many children. That led to lots of reforms before WWI. But Wells believed that if you prevented the poor and working classes from having children, everyone would be smart, beautiful, and financially comfortable. He hadn't solved a sticking point, that is: would these new "smart, beautiful" people accept being servants for the upper classes that depended on their service to eat, dress, go places, etc.?) If you need sources I can post them.

  4.  Granted, this show is nowhere near classic as BSG was. But it's good fun and it isn't stupid, which is what I want in my summer shows. :)

  5. While I'm may not have liked the character of H.G. Wells but the premise of this spin-off looks promising ..

  6. only one problem, I actually would watch this, but what about Jamie Murry? They already established her as HG Wells. I will not watch someone else play the role.

  8. Syfy is aiming everything at kid demographics so no more adult shows like BSG are getting made if you notice?

  9. Well they did that with BSG and Caprica (which sadly failed) and I hear that SGU tried a bit too hard to capture a similar tone to BSG. Hopefully Blood and Chrome won't be the network beating a dead horse and will be some more good serious drama.

On the other hand, shows like Eureka and Warehouse 13 are a LOT of fun. Compared to a lot of older science fiction, these shows are both a comedic AND dramatic improvement. Also, keep in mind that these shows are marketed as dramedies.

That being said, I would love more serious sci-fi drama :).

  10. Yeah :)  I can see Blood and Chrome being a one series cancellation unfortunately, I just hope to see some quality sci-fi coming from somewhere, Falling Skies here I come :), I just hope to see some quality sci-fi coming from somewhere, Falling Skies here I come :)

  11. As an adult, I hated BSG/SGU and I love Eureka/W13. I very much prefer light and fun shows to dark - both literally and figuratively - and dreary. Why does everybody equal lighter shows to kid and stupid?

  12.  I'm not equating it to stupid, it's just personally not to my taste. I love shows which are lighter as well, I watch a hell of a lot, but in 'everybody's' defence, how many times has Warehouse 13 been named one of the best shows of the decade?
