New York, May 17, 2011 – Imagine a day when nobody dies. All across the world, nobody dies. And then the next day, and the next, and the next, people keep aging. They get hurt and sick but they never die. This is the extraordinary premise of the highly-anticipated STARZ original drama series, “Torchwood: Miracle Day,” produced by BBC Worldwide Productions for STARZ, BBC Cymru Wales and BBC Worldwide. The series will premiere on STARZ July 8 at 10 pm ET/PT.
Today, the network announced that in addition to Torchwood alumni, John Barrowman, Eve Myles, and Kai Owen and new headliners, Mekhi Phifer, Bill Pullman and Alexa Havins, that the 10-episode, hour-long series will also feature an impressive list of guest stars: Wayne Knight (“Seinfeld,” Jurassic Park), C. Thomas Howell (“Southland,” The Outsiders), Ernie Hudson (“OZ,” Ghostbusters), Nana Visitor (“Star Trek: Deep Space Nine”), John DeLancie (“Star Trek: The Next Generation”), Mare Winningham (Mildred Pierce, George Wallace) and Frances Fisher (Titanic, The Lincoln Lawyer).
Additional actors starring in the cult sensation include: Arlene Tur (“Crash,” Eat Pray Love) and Lauren Ambrose (“Six Feet Under,” The Other Woman) who join the cast in an extended guest role. The show’s original creator, writer/producer Russell T Davies, serves as executive producer along with BBC Worldwide Productions’ SVP Julie Gardner, with Davies also serving as show-runner for “Torchwood: Miracle Day.”
“Torchwood: Miracle Day” begins with a day when nobody dies. The result: a population boom, overnight. With all the extra people, resources are finite. It’s said that in four month’s time, the human race will cease to be viable. But this can’t be a natural occurrence – someone’s got to be behind it. It’s a race against time as C.I.A. agent Rex Matheson investigates a global conspiracy. The answers lie within an old, secret British institute. As Rex keeps asking “What is Torchwood?,” he’s drawn into a world of adventure, and a threat to change what it means to be human, forever.

They managed to get some pretty cool guest stars... I've started watching some days ago and finished episode 4 today, but so far I'm not really hooked.
ReplyDeleteLike I said earlier, the first two seasons are... Strange. It only really clicked for me halfway through Season 2. Which is a long time to bother watching something. If it isn't working out for you, switch to COE. That is most definitely worth watching.
ReplyDeleteI'm still getting used to the idea of all the American series regulars and now there's a handful of recognizable American guest stars too. I hope this doesn't alienate too many UK viewers.
ReplyDeleteYeah, switch to COE. There are some dynamics between the characters that you need to learn, but story-wise you can jump at it and I think that with new season Torchwood will be more like COE and not like season one and two.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, it's not that I hate watching it, but it definitely doesn't leave me craving for more at the end of an episode.
ReplyDeleteI like the show but have to admit season one was rather bad where as season two got alot better. Season 3 i'm sure we can all agree was some amazing tv even if you aren't a regular fan of the show.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the input, it's appreciated! I'll definitely keep watching season 1 for the moment, but if it doesn't improve for me, I might switch directly to season 3.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely do that!
ReplyDeleteThe Season 3 switch to heavy serialized drama was instant maturation for the series.
It went from being a bit of fun in that quirky Doctor Who kind of way, to a rich, full, gritty and excellent series on its own merits!
Children of Earth / Season Three will leave you wanting the next episode before the credits end on the episode you're watching!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I wasn't impressed by this series after two seasons to be honest if people wouldn't recommend me about COE I would probably stop watching it.
ReplyDeleteThe only reason I would argue against that is Owen's arc starting mid-season 2. That was what drew me into Torchwood.
ReplyDeleteWell I liked it from the beginning, but If I hadn't liked it in the beginning, I would have liked it starting at Children of Earth because I like Serialized drama so much.... and it rocked.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree that the Owen arc was good, but the show overall was still basically the same overall until the format change between seasons 2 and 3. That may be what makes the difference. Dunno
I'm OCD level obsessive about watching things in order and not skipping.... so I would never be able to jump in at season3 personally. It's a curse..
I'm exactly the same! I can't deal with watching things out of order (including the most episodic of procedurals). Once, at a surprise birthday party thrown in my honour, my friends started watching Rome from Episode 3. They had watched the first two episodes several weeks earlier, while I had been absent. Even though it was my birthday, I wound up chilling with my friend's roommate in a separate room XD.
ReplyDeleteThat's my problem too. I hate leaving out big chunks of the story without having all the information possible about the characters, their relationships and their stories.
ReplyDeleteChildren of Earth was heartbreaking, thrilling, touching, can't wait for Miracle Day!!!! Captain Jack is back!
