Thanks to Tyler for the heads up.

Brace yourself, Supernatural fans (as if Friday night’s finale didn’t already rob you of most every breath): Though his alter ego now is a bigger force than ever to be reckoned with, Misha Collins will not be returning to the CW series as a regular next season, TVLine has learned

  1. Not being a series regular does NOT mean kicked off the show.  Before people start yelling that they will drop the show because of this news, remember that Jim Beaver is not a series regular either and he appeared in more of season 6 than Misha Collins did.  This might be a budget thing and hey, that's good news for more classic rock.  Also, Cas couldn't be in every episode anyway if he is the Big Bad for the season.  That much power that often and the brothers would be toast by episode 3.

  2. I'm good with Misha not being a regular for S7. That way when he does appear he'll have more impact - especially as it looks like Cas is heading toward the big bad title for the new season. Looking forward to seeing more evil Cas

  4. We get a Season 7 - I'm good. Misha has a lot of other projects going on so this news isn't surprising.

  5. People have already started yelling and disowning the show, but you are exactly right - Misha will still be on the show, just like Jim's status as guest. I would so love the classic rock to come back. And if he is the big bad then yeah Smitey McSmiterton would have the Winchesters roasted in a second.

  6. as long as he is still there thats why i will watch it if  they killed him off all together i would not watch it anymore but also because supernatural is not what used to be season 4 was my favourite it at the best action and it didnt go of the point to much and it also had the old supernatural back in it and dean and sam where themselves and we at lots of hot sexy secnes with cas. like now i only watch supernatural for misha because i dont like the plots i dont like sam and dean but i love castiel {misha} so hope they make it more simply like season 4 and then hopefully castiel will come back to his old selve xxx

  7. I really hope it means that Misha will be recurring, not completely gone by 701. And it's a real possibility considering a) Ausiello's blind item: http://www.tvline.com/2011/03/blind-item-beloved-character-going-six-feet-under and b) Sera Gamble's words: 'Collins is expected to return for the Season 7 opener, but how much of a
presence he will have on the show beyond that, if any, is a mystery
Gamble can’t delve into “without giving away a lot about the premiere.”' He might become S7's big bad - which would be great, if they managed to save him by the season finale, like what happened to Willow on Buffy - but he might also die right then and there, and I would hate that.

I hope this whole thing is all about their budget. As a recurring, he would be getting less money, on the other hand, he could be in just as many episodes - see Bobby - and at the same time free for other projects. As a regular, he couldn't do that, he had to stay available the whole 8 or 9 months.

hopefully both cas and bobby are in it just as much as they were this season coz i thought overall it was a pretty good balance

  9.  Not surprised by this announcement.  I am with you Dahne, just because he isn't a regular doesn't mean he won't be on the show.

  10. He was a reg but the way they had him in the show it didn't seem that way at all if you catch my drift.

  11.  Big bads are never really used in the capacity that sees the actor as a series regular. Cas is effectively not Cas anymore he's the new big bad and just like YED and Lillith he'll be used sparingly and appropriately but he'll still be there, popping up every now and again.

It also gives the actor the ability to work on other projects which might be the case here for Misha or it could be that he wants to spend more time with his son, either way I doubt he's whining about it.

In the end I think we'll see Cas get some kind of redemption or peace, I dont think they'll just leave him hanging but in the mean time I'm going to enjoy Misha in this new role and see where the writers go with this.

  12. I have nothing new to say really, just:

    1. Season regular does not necessarily mean more or less screen time.
    2. If Cas is to be the Big Bad of Season 7, he obviously can't be appearing in every episode or they boys would be dead by the time the premiere finishes.
    3. If it does turn out that he has significantly less screen time, it may be to help out Misha Collins as much as anything else, as he is now trying to raise his baby boy on top of working.

Nothing that other, wiser people haven't said already. :)

  15. Just remember season 5 everybody!

Mark Pellegrino as Lucifer was also "just" guest cast and not a regular, and still his presence was felt the entire season. I so no reason why it should be any differnt with Misha.

Let's wait until we saw 7x01 shall we?

Thanks Dahne for being the voice of reason. :)

  16. Jim Beaver was in as many episodes as Misha Collins this season and probably had more screen time than him. I just think it comes down to the contract and story. They probably don't want to have to write Castiel into episodes just because the contract calls for him to be in x amount of episodes. Just look at Jim Beaver's situation this year, he ended up being in 12 episodes not because a contract dictated Bobby had to be in that many episodes, but because Gamble and company wanted Bobby in those episodes.

Now i'm not trying to say they don't want Misha Collins anymore, just saying atleast now when they write the episodes it will be Gamble and Co. that want Castiel in that episode and not well it has been 2 episodes without Castiel we need to somehow write him into this episode.

  17.  NO thats not a good sign! This totally sucks!

Jim Beaver's not a regular either.  I hope God (Chuck) will come back and deal with Cas. Maybe the Cas story will be part of next season's arc.

  19. As everyone else said,it doesn't mean anything..Jim is not a regular and Misha was not a regular in season 4!Screen time was about the same!

The only thing I didn't like was that the CW released a vague summary of season 7 listing him as a series regular..And I understand that they did it to avoid spoiling anyone. But couldn't they wait two days and release the summary after the finale(without Misha as a regular)?Getting us all excited before the real news was kind of cruel....

  20.  Finally some good news !! I've hated Castiel all along nor do I think Misha is a credible actor either so HALLELUJAH I'm happy to get rid of him .. Now SPN get back to the show it was and away from the stupid Castiel story arc and way past time to get rid of Misha who is the weak link on the show !!

  21.  I'm not fussed by this, they need to scale back angel storylines for me and he has a baby. I'm fine with it.

    ReplyDelete
  22. of course... they can't have a god appear in every episode... Castiel will surely have other things to do now other than go around with Sam and Dean hunting monsters...

    ReplyDelete
  23. Thats okay people forget Misha's wife just had a baby in Septemeber he wants more time to spend with his son and thats a good thing. I applaud him for that he's such a great dad. Fans forget they are human beings not characters.  I love Misha and Castiel so much, but for me SPN will always be about the Winchester brothers bond its been that way since the Pilot.  So I can do without Cas being in as many episodes as long as he's still comes back.

  24. i don't think they can make him a series regular if hes a bad guy next season he'll probaly only be in between 6-10 episodes is my guess its not like they can have in every episdode of them going up against castiel i don't like what there doing with castiel and i have a feeling they'll kill him off after season 7 with his ultimate betrayal i don't think theres anything Castiel could do that could make Sam, Dean and Bobby trust him again

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm a Cas fan, but honestly I'd rather he be written off the show than be the big bad for season 7.  I'm hoping the souls leak out in the premiere and the boys have some new big bad monster souls to fight rather than Cas next season.

  26.  He wasn't a series regular in season 4 either... Jim Beaver isn't either and look how many episodes he's been in.
I'm honestly okay with him not being listed as a regular, as we know he's still a large part of the show... And I don't see Castiel leaving Supernatural anytime soon.
I'm not worried about Castiel, I still believe that he'll find his way back home... And that home is with his family, Bobby, Sam, and Dean.
