-Ratings Breakdown:
ABC remains the dominant force on Monday thanks to Dancing with the Stars, with a whopping 145 percent advantage over No. 2 CBS. Third overall was Fox, followed by NBC and, of course, The CW. While ABC managed to build year-to-year by five percent, the four remaining networks slipped by double digit percentages.
Dancing with the Stars stood well above the competition, with a 14.3 rating/22 share from 8-10 p.m. and the half-hour breakdown as follows: 13.0/21 – 14.2/22 – 15.1/23 – 14.9/22. Looks like “Karate Kid” Ralph Macchio could be heading home tonight. Dancing with the Stars led into mystery Castle at a dominant 8.8/15 at 10 p.m. Comparably, however, retention for Castle out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of Dancing with the Stars was only 59 percent.
CBS, unfortunately, remains stifled by the absence of original episodes of Two and a Half Men. Demo friendly How I Met Your Mother opened with a third-place 4.7/ 7 at 8 p.m., leading into recent entry Mad Love at a 3.6/ 6 (#3) at 8:30 p.m. Retention for Mad Love out of How I Met Your Mother of only 77 percent in the higher HUT level 8:30 p.m. time period means Mad Love is a goner.
Next on CBS was the Two and a Half Men encore (#2: 4.5/ 7 at 9 p.m.), which dipped by 49 percent from the original year-ago telecast (8.9/13 on May 10, 2010), followed by sure-to-be renewed Mike & Molly (#2: 5.2/ 8) and Hawaii Five-O (#2: 6.3/10) from 9:30-11 p.m. Minus the original lead-in support, both freshman entries have felt the impact.
Fox had nothing unusual to report with its combination of deteriorating House (#2: 5.2/ 8 at 8 p.m.), which slipped 22 percent year-to-year (6.7/10 on May 10, 2010) and on-the-fence The Chicago Code (#3: 3.9/ 6 at 9 p.m.), which faces an uphill battle for renewal because of commitments to The X Factor and dinosaur drama Terra Nova from Steven Spielberg.
Elsewhere, NBC remained out of the competitive loop as a result of Chuck (#4L 2.8/ 5), The Event (#4: 2.8/ 4) and Law & Order: Los Angeles (#3: 3.6/ 6), while The CW lagged with its combination of already renewed 90210 (#5: 1.4/ 2) and Gossip Girl (#5: 1.2/ 2). Both CW dramas never resonate in the overnights. Next season, Gossip Girl regulars Taylor Momsen (Jenny) and Jessica Szohr (Vanessa) are only expected to appear on an occasional basis.

90210 isn't doing great and they got renewed. How the heck is #Chuck not renewed yet?!
ReplyDeleteBad news again for chuck I'll bet. :(
ReplyDeleteI always get a bit fed up with Castle's numbers being downplayed because they happen to be only a fraction of the 20+ million that a reality superhit gets. 13Mil is good for this show regardless of it's lead-in, especially when said lead-in is of a totally different genre. Since ABC has tried and failed many a show in said timeslot before, I really can't imagine a 13 mil/3.3 rating is considered anything but outstanding for them, especially considering the sinking nature of all of their dramas and the lack of any new shows to catch on. (Even BoP can only muster low 2's in the demo now.) Castle deserves a little more credit I think. It may be a tad older skewing but it's proven itself at the very least a strong hit for the period. And if it keeps ABC No. 1 every week, don't see them complaining.
ReplyDeleteHow is Gossip Girl and 90210 renewed and not Nikita or Hellcats yet? CW is so stupid sometimes.
ReplyDeleteDamn, House is BOMBING. But I'm guessing people will still try to blame this on Huddy. Riiiight...
ReplyDeleteHaha, House's numbers will definitely not simplify negociations between NBC Universal and FOX.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, The Chicago Code's ratings are pretty good (especially given the situation at 8pm), as is the show. Why on earth is it in danger of cancellation then ? I don't get it (it's like Nikita, the show is doing great and is actually good, yet we're not sure if it'll come back, unbelievable).
What the hell, why doesn't the core audience of Chuck watch the show these last few weeks ? Maybe because it was kind of crappy for a major part of the season, granted, but now the last 4 episodes were genuinely good and people are not coming back. I liked it when the show was stable in February/March at 1.7 on the key demo/5.5 million viewers.
It's good news that LOLA sticks around very, very low numbers on the 18/49 demo (1.1). Unfortunately, The Event is doing the same numbers and isn't as strong (strong is a very strong word) on the total viewers.
Honestly, I love House, but the last few epi's havent been the greatest, although loving that 13 is back. Irrespective of the Huddyness or lack off. haha :)
ReplyDeleteNikita has better ratings than Gossip Girl, I don't know why they haven't renewed it yet.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, last night's ep was the first good one in weeks, but some people refuse to recognize the crappy writing is actually what's hurting the show.
ReplyDeleteHuddy equals crappy writing.
ReplyDeletecompletely agree with the crappy writing. there just didnt to be any structure or/& story for the last few epi's. i felt a bit lost with them.
ReplyDeleteyay for castle!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, monster trucks and a revolving door of whores is high caliber...
ReplyDeleteI think TCC's ratings are up by small percent .. though, It's not THAT high =(
ReplyDeleteWoooo!!!!! Gossip Girl renewed, that show is awesome!!
ReplyDeleteWoooo!!!!! Gossip Girl renewed, that show is awesome!!
ReplyDeletedaammnnn gg is lower and lower every week :SSS
ReplyDeletei love h 5-0!
ReplyDeleteIt's because Nikita doesn't draw enough of its viewers from the 18-34 yo female demo that The CW network likes.
ReplyDeleteCorrect. The Chicago Code was up this week, just not very much. The demo # is still below 2.0 and that's really bad.
ReplyDeleteThat's a very safe bet.
ReplyDeleteHow? Because Chuck's ratings are now almost as low as Chase and Undercovers when NBC pulled them and eventually canceled them.
ReplyDeleteUm some shows were adjusted up and CHUCK was one of them Chuck now has a 1.4 ratings
ReplyDeleteGG and 90210 make money from DVD sales, international rights and advertising. Hellcats and Nikita make a lot less.
ReplyDeleteOnly 7,5 for HOUSE. This time it's under french ratings for episodes 6x4 and 6x5 (on tuesday may 10 th) : 8 408 000.
ReplyDeleteThat's probably why HOUSE can have another chance, another season, another year, because it's more successful in other countries.
I think the last three episodes are worth watching and feel sorry people don't watch.
and why 90210 and gg got renewed?
