-Ratings Breakdown:
It was a Friday of split low-rated leadership, which of course is nothing unusual. CBS’ combination of Canadian drama Flashpoint (Viewers: #1, 6.68 million; A18-49: #3t, 0.9/ 3 at 8 p.m.), which has plummeted among adults 18-49, a repeat of CSI: NY (Viewers: #1, 7.08 million; A18-49: #3, 1.1/ 4 at 9 p.m.), and a Friday edition of 48 Hours Mystery (Viewers: #3, 5.21 million; A18-49: #3, 1.0/ 3 at 10 p.m.) led the network to victory in total viewers and a third-place finish among adults 18-49. The season-finale of Kitchen Nightmares (Viewers: #3, 3.84 million; A18-49: #1, 1.6/ 6 at 8 p.m.) and repeat of Kitchen Nightmares (Viewers: #4, 3.49 million; A18-49: #1, 1.4/ 5 at 8 p.m.) resulted in dominance for Fox in adults 18-49 (and a fourth-place finish on total viewers).
Looking ahead, there is no reason to believe, unfortunately, that upcoming CBS drama A Gifted Man will spark much interest in the Friday 8 p.m. hour. And Fox’s returning combination of Kitchen Nightmares and Fringe is not, as the network boasted at their upfront presentation, a “winner.”
Elsewhere, a repeat of ABC’s Shark Tank (Viewers: #2, 4.15 million; A18-49: #2, 1.1/ 4 at 8 p.m.), which moves back one hour out of relocated Extreme Makeover: Home Edition next fall, led into original installments of Primetime: What Would You Do? (Viewers: #3, 3.94 million; A18-49: #2, 1.3/ 4) and 20/20 (Viewers: #2, 5.52 million; A18-49: #1, 1.5/ 5) from 9-11 p.m. NBC populated the evening with soon-to-conclude Friday Night Lights (Viewers: #4, 3.31 million; A18-49: #3t, 0.9/ 3 at 8 p.m.), which you have to give the network credit for keep on the air, and another two-hour edition of Dateline (Viewers: 5.32 million; A18-49: 1.0/ 3 from 9-11 p.m.), which will be trimmed to one hour (at 10 p.m.) out of new drama Grimm next fall. Given the zero prospects of Grimm finding an audience, you can expect Dateline to be expanded back to two-hours by November.
In season-finale news, Supernatural on The CW closed with a last-place finish in both total viewers (2.21 million) and adults 18-49 (0.8/ 3) at 9 p.m. An 8 p.m. edition of Supernatural attracted just 2.06 million viewers (#5) and a 0.8/ 3 in the demo (#5) at 8 p.m. Unfortunately, there is no reason to believe that relocated Nikita in the Friday 8 p.m. will ignite the evening next season.

Yea the last statement is very true, Nikita is not going to get people to watch nor viceversa. It sucks because Nikita is such a high quality show yet they paired it with VD? How did that make sense? At least now they are saying "ok it can be a friday show", but it deserves better :/
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't call it a low note. Let it Bleed did better than any other CW show season finale. Only finales that did better than either Let it Bleed or The Man Who Knew Too Much was vampire diaries and smallville. Also the new Pirates of the Caribbean was out last night. Would love to see the DVR numbers for both episodes.
ReplyDeleteAlso both those ratings are in line with what Supernatural has been getting this season.
There were exemptions and cancellations in several major viewing areas last night which might be the reason shows were down. Anyway it's an outdated system and marketers are figuring that out finally. Slowly, but surly the ratings system will get an update.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing, It felt like supernatural was the only show that didnt end with a kid or a pregnancy lol
ReplyDeletePlus SN wasn't seen in the Chicago market due to Baseball game. Cubs at Red Sox, so Chicago won't air it until tomorrow night.
ReplyDeleteDont forget Pirates also probably brought it down a little. Also my dream now is to have Tom Welling recurr on Supernatural now. I have always dreamed that he would recurr as a hunter who is known to be one of the best besides the Winchesters and loses someone to Crowly or a villain and joins the Winchesters on a hunt. It would definitly be better to have more help then just Bobby and Castiel (at least right now we think Cas is good). That would be awsome and i think he would be a perfect and he is good friends in real life with Jared and worked on Smallville for season 4 with Jensen! Btw im one of the sad people who got preempted in chicago yesterday so now i have to wait for sunday!
ReplyDeleteSupernatural's ratings look fine to me. They are actually up a little from most of this season's episodes.
ReplyDeleteNo actually they are not, that was a series low in terms of demo and may yet be adjusted down due to pre-emption in the Chicago market. Look for at least total viewers to go down in the finals. No episode this season has dropped below a 0.9 in the demo and that is the only number that actually counts.
ReplyDeleteAs I said before, Supernatural viewers do not have those stupid Nielsen boxes. They are a joke
ReplyDeleteNielsen ratings are a joke.... many good shows have been cancelled because of them... and i know many people and none have a useless Nielsen box... in today's digital cable age i am sure there can be a better way to get these statistical data
ReplyDeleteI wish the networks would catch up with technology and realize most people are watching shows on DVR , online , on their play books or i pads so if they were smart they would also count those as well. Supernatural is an amazing show and should be given credit. I am sure it did alot better than they say it did.
ReplyDeleteI am relieved to hear that the news is not as bad as I first thought it was! I thought both shows were awesome on Friday night and thought that maybe people had other things going on and just did not want to sit home and watch TV. Remember this happened with Chicago at the beginning of the second half of the season with the long-awaited 'Like A Virgin' being put off for another week after 6 long weeks of waiting? It was so worth the wait, though.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to another awesome season in September!
