According to The Futon Critic NBC will not be picking up any more dramas other than Grimm, Awake (REM), The Playboy Club, Prime Suspect and Smash.
Jason Isaacs toplines "Awake," about a police detective who - following a horrible car accident - finds himself living in two different realities: one in which his son (Dylan Minnette) lives, another in which his wife (Laura Allen) lives. Kyle Killen penned the 20th Century Fox Television-based hour, which also stars B.D. Wong, Cherry Jones, Michaela McManus, Steve Harris and Wilmer Valderrama.
"Playboy," from writer Chad Hodge, is a period drama set at the famed club of the same name in 1963 Chicago. The ensemble cast includes Amber Heard, David Krumholtz, Eddie Cibrian, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, John Hoogenakker, Laura Benanti, Leah Cudmore, Naturi Naughton, Sean Maher and Wes Ramsey. 20th Century Fox Television likewise produces.
David Giuntoli stars in "Grimm," about a police detective who discovers fairy tale creatures live among us and is tasked with defending humans from these mythical beasts. Bitsie Tulloch, Kate Burton, Reggie Lee, Russell Hornsby, Sasha Roiz and Silas Weir Mitchell also star in the project, from Universal Media Studios and creators David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf.
Maria Bello stars in "Prime Suspect," about an iconoclastic female detective who has to make her bones in a tough New York precinct dominated by men. Director Peter Berg and writer Alexandra Cunningham are behind the project, a remake of the Helen Mirren-led U.K. series of the same name. Aidan Quinn, Brian O'Byrne, Joe Nieves, Kirk Acevedo, Tim Griffin and Toby Stephens also star.
Ensemble drama "Smash" is a show-within-a-show vehicle about a group of people who come together to put on a Marilyn Monroe-themed Broadway musical. Anjelica Huston, Brian d'Arcy James, Christian Borle, Debra Messing, Jack Davenport, Katharine McPhee, Megan Hilty and Raza Jaffrey co-star in the hour, from executive producers Steven Spielberg, Craig Zadan, Neil Meron and creator Theresa Rebeck.
Not moving forward are drama pilots "Wonder Woman," from David E. Kelley; "A. Mann's World," from Michael Patrick King; "Metro," from Stephen Gaghan; "17th Precinct," from Ronald D. Moore; and "Reconstruction," from Joshua Brand and Peter Horton.

Dylan Minnette, the kid from Lost (David Shephard). He was excellent.
ReplyDeleteThis makes me even more excited for Awake, although I preferred the awesome if slightly erroneous/irrelevant title REM. I had no idea that that was him. You're very right that he was excellent! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteI'm really happy with NBC's pickups. Sad to see that 17th Precinct didn't work out, but Grimm, Playboy, Smash, and especially Awake all sound fun.
ReplyDeleteI liked REM better too despite its inaccuracies.
ReplyDeleteSounds interesting! "Awake" has been a favorite of mine since the beginning, and the rest sound great as well. Maybe this will revive NBC reputation.. Now just get rid of the Chin.
ReplyDeleteHe has been in a lot of shows for such a young age. I liked him on Saving Grace and Let Me In quite a bit. Was nice to see him play against type in Let Me In where he played a bully. Me In quite a bit. Was nice to see him play against type in Let Me In where he played a bully.
ReplyDeleteThen I'll definitely put Awake on my list of must-see TV.
ReplyDeleteNo 17th precinct??? Arggh That had all the BSG alumni it it. RDM please try and pitch to Syfy!!!
ReplyDeletesome excellent pick ups NBC now do us all a favour and dont screw up with the scheduling. Pairing new shows with low rated ones is never a good idea.. Pairing new shows with low rated ones is never a good idea.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see I am not the only one getting random double sentences posted....
ReplyDeleteI agree with your point. Where a show is placed can mean survival or cancellation to a new series. The time it's on, what it's up against, and what its lead in is or what follows it can make or break a new series!
Anyone recall what the name of the thread was where we guessed which pilots would be successful? I looked just now and did not see it despite going back a few months....
ReplyDeletecrap, i really wanted to see 17th precinct.....oh well....i'm sure Ronald D Moore shows always have a home at the SyFy channel
ReplyDeleteI hope that maybe 17th Precint will be picked up on a summer season if possible. I'm so glad Wonder Woman wasn't picked up - it would have a similar story like The Cape when it comes to ratings and critical response.
ReplyDeleteDarn, Reconstruction sounded really different from anything else and I liked the premise. Cant recall what the premise was for A.MAnn's World, Metro, adn 17th Precinct. Glad Wonder Woman wasn't picked up, even though the actress looked good.
