PROGNOSIS GOOD FOR “HOUSE” AS HIT SERIES
IS RENEWED FOR EIGHTH SEASON
All-New Episode Airs Monday, May 16, on FOX
FOX has renewed the hit series HOUSE for an eighth season, it was announced today by Kevin Reilly, President of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company.
“Over the past seven seasons, HOUSE has redefined the medical drama and has given us one of television’s most compelling and iconic characters,” said Reilly. “From the producers to the incredible writers to the unbelievably talented cast and crew, the HOUSE team is fearless in its creativity and I can’t wait to see what they have in store next year.”
In the all-new “After Hours” episode, airing Monday, May 16 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX, THIRTEEN’s (Olivia Wilde) ex-con friend, DARRIEN (guest star Amy Landecker), arrives at Thirteen’s apartment unannounced and in need of urgent medical attention. When she finds out that her friend has relapsed into drug use, Thirteen promises not to take her to the hospital where the cops could find her and instead turns to CHASE (Jesse Spencer) in desperation. Meanwhile, HOUSE (Hugh Laurie) deals with devastating information, and TAUB (Peter Jacobson) begins to come to terms with surprising news.
HOUSE is an innovative take on the medical drama in which the villain is a medical malady and the hero is an irreverent, controversial doctor who trusts no one, least of all his patients. The series is from Heel and Toe Films, Shore Z Productions and Bad Hat Harry Productions in association with Universal Media Studios. Katie Jacobs, David Shore, Paul Attanasio, Bryan Singer, Russel Friend, Garrett Lerner, Thomas L. Moran, Greg Yaitanes and Hugh Laurie are executive producers. This will be final season imo.
ReplyDeleteGreat news! Of course, barring a sudden miraculous upswing in quality and ratings, this will probably be the last season, but 8 is more than respectable for any series.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I'll be checking out the series finale, but as of halfway through season 7, I'm out.
ReplyDeleteThis was pretty much a no-brainer that we all knew was coming, but I was still eagerly anticipating official word. So yay for this! I'm OK with this being the final season. The show could go on to a tenth season as far as I'm concerned, but with the ratings decline I think it'd be best to go out while still on top and beloved. I will miss "House" once it's gone, but it has had a very, very decent run, and that's more than you can say for many other shows out there.
ReplyDelete(By the way, browsing through the show's page on Wikipedia I was shocked to discover how vastly the ratings have dropped in comparison to the early years. Didn't realize the show used to pull 20M+ so frequently... Kinda sad to see how it went from Fox's powerhouse to a mediocre performer at best...)
Did you watch 7x16 "Out of the Chute"? I haven't really liked S7 either due to the Huddy nonsense but that ep is, in my opinion, one of the best in the series.
ReplyDeleteI've heard good things, similar to what you've mentioned, but I stopped around 7x09. I'm a chronology snob and can't handle watching things out of order. Maybe when S7 is done, I'll check it out in one sitting or something, or at least get to 7x16.
ReplyDeleteA ratings increase is far more likely than Hugh Laurie wanting to sign on for more years after his contract is up after 8.
ReplyDeleteI don't
ReplyDeletefind the ratings slip all that sad since ratings mean nothing to me. Nearly every TV show I've loved hangs by a
thread its whole run, so for House to be that popular at any point is really
shocking from my perspective. It's not like there was ever a time when the online
fan base was generally happy. There was nothing but bitching even during its
prime ratings. I have noticed that I consistently disagree with the fans comments,
but completely see it the same way as the writers. I think it has always been
the type of show that really only has a place in the fringes, but there's some
element that allowed it to temporarily find mass appeal. I think it's the
procedural aspect. Americans just eat up patient/crime of the week procedurals
(which do little for me). Most of the complaining was about the serial side and
seemed to increase as the focus and length of the serial stories increased. Just a thought.
It was the right move to give the show an eighth season but it should be the final season. Furthermore, it should be planned out as the final season from the beginning.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy for House fans as it's horrible to have your show cancelled, but IMO this show has long overstayed its welcome. I loved seasons 1-3, tolerated season 4 and stopped watching midway into season 5. I don't know if it's dramatically improved since then, but based on the plot points I've read since then, I don't think I'll be going back.
ReplyDeleteMore importantly, I'm wondering if all the characters are going to be joining us for the next season? I know several of the actors did not have a contract through an eighth season, so I'm wondering if their contracts were renewed.
