Grey's Anatomy - Episode 7.21 - I Will Survive - Review

Just a quick review this week.

"I Will Survive" felt like a filler episode which is not a great thing so close to the finale.

However, it was nice to take a break from Calzona last night and have more focus on some other characters, particularly Cristina as well as the other residents and their battle to become Chief Resident. Avery lost the race after he backed out of the Chief's trial. I want to like Avery, I really do, but we never seem to get the opportunity to watch him develop much. Some episodes he shines, like last week, and some episodes he fades into the background and almost seems irrelevant.

Cristina went behind Teddy's back to steal a patient and perform a unique surgery even though April warned her not too as it wasn't following protocol. It's nice to see April shine through and see her relationships develop, as well as her character develop. It makes me wonder if Shonda has plans for her to become Chief Resident? I agree with Owen that Cristina is certainly more of a surgeon than a boss.

Meredith and Derek continue with the adoption process. Watching Meredith with baby Zola was very touching. I think she would make a brilliant mother. When she was having her interview, her passion really shone through for me. It was very honest. Meredith is a surgeon, but she also would be a great mother, and it's about time that the Meredith and Derek fans saw this happen.

It wasn't a great episode for Alex. He put his relationship first once again and turned down a job in Africa which Lucy then took. So is this the end for them, already? If she does leave, her character seemed a bit pointless. She hasn't really brought anything to the show so it would be a shame to just lose her so soon.

After a difficult day, Alex informed Owen that Meredith played around with the Alzheimer's trial and corrupted the results. What does this mean for Meredith? I can't say I was shocked. Alex was the only one who didn't defend Izzie back in season 2 after cutting the LVAD wire so this was bound to happen. There are some rumours going around that it will impact on Meredith and Derek's relationship, I hope this is wrong, it is the last thing the fans deserve.

We also saw some more Teddy and Henry this week. I'm really starting to like those two together and I hope this develops more.

Overall, not the best episode but we saw some of the "forgotten" characters shine through and the plot has been set for the finale. It was also nice to take a step back after some of the drama that has occurred in the previous few episodes. What do you guys think?

  2. yes but I didn't feel anything significant or out of the ordinary happened to them. Nothing that wasn't expected or new anyway!
