FX Emmy Submissions

7 May 2011

For the last three years, FX has had "Damages" as a strong Emmys contender, with Glenn Close winning Best Drama Actress twice. With that show shifting to DirecTV, FX is touting series such as "Justified," "Sons of Anarchy," "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" and "Rescue Me" as Emmys contenders.

"Justified" just wrapped its second season with a Peabody win boosting the profile of the crime drama and lead actor Timothy Olyphant. While "Sons of Anarchy" star Katey Sagal won the Golden Globe for Best Drama Actress earlier this year, she has never been nominated for an Emmy.

"Rescue Me" has earned Emmy nods for star Denis Leary in 2006 and 2007, as well as directing and writing bids in 2005, and a Guest Drama Actor win for Michael J. Fox in 2009.

On the comedy front, the quirky "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" is still looking for some Emmy love while standup Louis C.K. created and starred in the buzzed-about "Louie."

  1. If theres any justice in the world then Justified will win the following:

    Best Drama

    Best Actor: Timothy Olyphant

    Best Supporting Actor: Walton Goggins

    Best Supporting Actress: Margo Martindale

All well, well deserved after an amazing second season with amazing performances from the whole cast, but these three in particular.

  2. Justified needs to win some Emmy's, I would have submitted Jeremy Davies for best guest star

  3. Haha, the day It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia wins Emmys (or even gets nominated) is a day that will probably never happen.

FX shows never win anything, it just isn't an Emmy channel unless you're an experienced actress (Glenn Close and Katey Sagal). The Shield never won or got nominated, except for the 1st season... and Glenn Close in season 4.

Of course I would love to see Sunny nominated as best comedy, Sons of Anarchy as best drama and Walton Goggins as best supporting actor, but that would be very surprising.

  4. Sunny & Louie are brilliant, but I don't see them getting nominated...

  5. I'm hoping Lights Out gets some nominations at least.

  6. Maybe Katy Sagal's Golden Globe win will help Sons of Anarchy get some Emmy nods. The series deserves them!

  7. Archer and Justified should be nominated, but Archer isn't in the vein of Emmy's. The League also fantastic in second season.

Actually, with Dexter having pretty weak season I can see Justified taking it spot.

  8. I agree with Margo Martindale and possibly Goggins, but Justified's season was not the best of all that I saw...

  9. Glenn Close won 2 years in a row and was nominated all 3 years, and while no one else won, the show has been repeatedly nominated since the first season... Rose Byrne, Martin Short, William Hurt, Damages as Best Drama I believe all 3 years...
