Fringe - POLL - Who Is In The Coffin?

1 May 2011

SPOILER ALERT! DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU HAVE SEEN, "THE LAST SAM WEISS"

I think everyone here can agree that this last episode of Fringe had quite the startling ending. The promo's were even more startling. Walter speaking out of half of his mouth, Olivia's hair changed again, Broyles's eye not looking so good, a daughter perhaps, and then right out of the book of LOST, a coffin with no name. Now if you're a fan of theories, read on. If not and you would just like to participate in the poll simply scroll down and vote.

Alright over the seasons Fringe has showed us the difference between characters in many different ways; hair color, hair style, clothing; etc. This promo tried two of those on Olivia for us.

Her hair looks different and her clothing isn't the way she normally dresses. In the, "Lysergic Acid Diethylamide" Peter remarks that she only ever wears black. Besides her vest she's not waring black. Conincedence maybe, mabye not. Perhaps the different look is simply to distinguish between future Olivia and our Olivia.

Now to move on to the child of Peter and Fauxlivia. Now we know that on the other side Fauxlivia gave birth to a boy. However there are a number of different variables (Daniel Faraday is getting red) that you have to consider. One, Peter and our Olivia have been together for a while now so maybe they had a child and it is a girl. Two, if the universes merged then I suppose some strange thing could cause a sex change. That would be kind of weird though. Three, maybe it's not a girl at all, maybe it's just a boy with long hair.

Next up on the over analyzing list is Broyles. If you haven't seen the promo photo yet here it is. He doesn't look so good. Perhaps if the two universes merged and Broyles merged with his other self, who's dead, he got this half dead eye thing. I don't know about that one, just a theory.

Now the biggest question of all, who is in the coffin? It reminds me of the, " Who Shot JR?" from Dallas a bit. Anyway you have to ask yourself a question who's coffin would peter be lighting up? In my mind the only candidates(thank you jacob) are going to be the Olivia's, Peter's children, or the Walter's.

But let's take a closer look to see who we can eliminate as possibilities.

We can see Peter(obviously), Broyles(to the right of Peter), and from the looks of it a Walter(center front). Also we can see some military men watching the coffin on fire to the right of Broyles. The only person I can think of who would get that sort of an attendance, like John Scott, would be Olivia or another Fringe agent.

I could go on and on but for the sake of my own sanity I won't. All that I know for a fact is that someone is going to meet a (delicious strawberry flavored) death in the finale. Now it's your guys turn to decide who you think will die. Vote below!

  1. Olivia, that's where the set photos are from.

  2. Okay, my theory: Two universes didn't merge at all, one of them is indeed destroyed or will be destroyed in the next episode. The doomsday device's purpose is to show Peter "the end of the world" and bring him back to present so that everyone can stop the end of the world from happening.

  3. It's got to be Liv, and that's got to be changed in the present!!!!!

  4. No one in the coffin , the body was stolen ! :P

  5. I have this awful feeling that it will be Liv. :( NOOOOO!

  6. I Don t even wanna know :( at least i know it won t make me happy

  7. Sadly i guess it's Olivia...We'll need tissues!

  8. Olivia, we've already seen in promo pics who's going to shoot her...

  9. Brings back Lost memories :D ?

Season 3 finale? who's in the coffin? Anyone? Bueller, Bueller?

  10. stop trying to kill our olivia!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  11. That`s what I`m saying the whole time

  12. If Olivia is dead...there wouldn't really be a show would there...

  13. The theory about Broyles is obviously wrong, Because the other Peter is Dead too. By the way, in case you haven't Noticed, Peter touches Olivia on the draw before he cries. I guess that's because She's going to be on that coffin :(

  14. I guess it'll be Jeramy Bentham... as a pseudonym ;]

  15. I think Peter was protected by the machine from any harmful affects that the merging of 2 universes could cause. I'm pretty sure that Sam Weiss said something about Peter being protected inside of it since in indestructible.

  16. It's Olivia, Walternate "destroys" Peter's Universe by killing Olivia, that's what he's referring to when he says "You destroyed my Universe son, now i'm gonna destroy yours". Peter loves Olivia, it's his universe, so Walternate kills her!

  17. Future Olivia. They are making it so clear in the promo!

  18. I agree. The shot of him crying over the family drawing gives it away, set pictures or not.
This is a very spoilery promo.

But i think that the cliffhanger is something nobody is expecting. THAT's what important to me.

  19. I think, maybe, Walternate came over to our side to survive the death of his universe and was later 'arrested' except they arrested our Walter instead as the brain regeneration had started/Walternates brain was damaged from crossing over and they couldn't tell the two apart.

Walternate later kills Olivia for getting Peter to stay on our side and thus ending the alternate Universe.

  20. True. Olivia doesn't really die in the present, that death in the future is one of many possibilities. I think Peter will live this future, where Olivia dies, but he'll go back to the present and prevent it.

The cliffhanger is not her death, but what is it? Is it wrong that I'm more scared about that than about Future Olivia's death?

  21. It's funny that the 1st line of the post says "do not read until you've seen 'The Last of Sam Weiss'" when in the meantime the title of the topic is "who is in the coffin ?".

I haven't read any further that this first line, but I just wanted to say it would probably be better to change the title of the topic to avoid spoiling any other people who, like me, might not have seen the last episode and don't expect to hear about a coffin.

As for who's in the coffin, I'd say Alternate Gene.

  22. i never thought of it but this makes sooo much sense

  23. John Locke.

    or, probably more likely, Olivia.

  24. Olivia is missing in the photo .. but it is not right .. not her .. why she ... this makes me angry: (

  25. I hope it's not Astrid, but I've been considering her, too... we haven't seen her in any promos or anything.
I hope its not her, but she seems to be the only one who's not accounted for at ALL in the episode. :/

In those set photos Olivia is shot in the back and in almost every shot we see of her in the future she is wearing a vest. It is possible but I think it would be too obvious.

  27. In this day and age, a main character's death is not unheard of. Or irreversible.

SPOILER from the sneak peak: Peter mentions to Walter that Astrid is a Fringe agent "now" and that they need her in the field.

    Not to mention the flash-forward.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Well I voted for Olivia. As for the second pic the one with the drawing of two people and a little girl. I think it's Peter and Olivia and the little girl is their's. It makes sense to me... But that's just my opinion...

  31. I'm gonna have to trust Josh, "at the end of the episode, it doesnt matter" :|

    ReplyDelete
  32. It's Olivia in the future. Everyone who's seen the promo pics from a couple of weeks back knows it's her. The thing is, her death is clearly not the major point or twist of the episode, because they've given it away. So it must be something relating to that, something that leads to that, or something that comes from that [in addition to having to stop her death, of course].

Plus, in the promo, you can see that Peter is the one that sets her coffin on fire and sends it off into the water. If Walter's alive, who else would he have to fulfil that duty for?

    ReplyDelete
  33. I swear there was a bit of script or something from the set that said they were shooting Olivia's funeral?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hmmm..... Greg Grunberg?

    ReplyDelete
  35. I thought it was Astrid a couple weeks ago, but did not make the connection with Peter saying "she's an agent now" they need her in the field.... That definitely adds to that possibility.

Plus, I always thought that the casting of a young female agent could easily be a replacement for Astrid. Could that be Emma all grown up and make that point moot? Maybe.

I will stick with Astrid until I see new spoilers that make me think otherwise.... Astrid it is.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I totally think its Olivia.. But wouldn't that be to obvious? We all expect it to be her... Whatever Joshua jackson said it wouldn't matter anyway :P

I'm beginning to think that way also. This "spoiler" about someone's death has been promoted like crazy, making me think it's not much of a spoiler after all, but rather a distraction from something that is of more significance. Well, we see next week.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I don't want Olivia or Fauxlivia to die.... and it can't be Henry either 'cause both of them already suffered so much.... but I guess someone has to die....
    Love FRINGE forever!!! :D

Given all the que's and all the pictures its pretty clear that it is going to be future Olivia, And that sucks!!! because I don't want Olivia to die, even if it is just the future version of her!! Untimely death, that sucks!! Liv!!!! Don't die!

I'm coming on to this side slowly too, this train of thought.

  41. Totallyaddicted0052 May 2011 at 05:15

lets hope, like she's not really unsavable, from this death. Like when he goes back they'll be able to pervent this collision of the universes and save ourOlivia.

    ReplyDelete
  42. My thoughts exactly.... I think Peter is still "in the Machine" at it shows him one of the "possible" future outcome where September was talking about to Walter in "The Firefly". Walter....

    ReplyDelete
  43. It is Walter.

    ReplyDelete
  44. In the last photo, Olivia is standing down near the beach and Ella is behind her.
    It is our beloved Walter.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Broyles is standing behind them and Walternate is standing at the bottom of the photo between two guards.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I am wondering if it's Ella, Olivia's niece. Just a thought from out in left field.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Another Abrams series, another person in the coffin...

    ReplyDelete
  48. That was too easy!
    A shameless Twist perhaps!

    ReplyDelete
  49. After seeing the new Promo I have changed my mind. It is Olivia.
Astrids new haircut gives it away.
She is standing behind Ella on the beach.
And it is Walter in custody not Walternate.

  50. I just realized something. Maybe Broyle's eye looking weird has something to do with his son. Remember the weird look they had? Here's a pic I found
