TV Romance Competition - Dan & Blair (Gossip Girl) vs. Dean & Castiel (Supernatural) & Jane & Lisbon (The Mentalist) vs. Caroline & Tyler (Vampire D)

Hey guys,

Once again I apologise for the slowness in getting this poll out but I've been working all day and have recorded a new SpoilerTV podcast with my good friend The ODI. But now the time has arrived to move onto a new set of polls, one which I'm partly dreading and the other which I'm dreading less :P

Yesterday saw good wins for Peter Bishop and Olivia Dunham of Fringe after they triumphed over Nate & Serena of Gossip Girl, as well as an impressive win for Chandler and Monica of Fringe who saw off House and Cuddy from medical drama House M.D COngrats to both couples who have made it into round two.

Today sees Dan & Blair, one of the most popular couples based on the nominations squaring off against the most controversial of couples, real or not they are here because enough of you voted for them, and they are Dean Winchester & Castiel of Supernatural. As I've said before, keep the comments friendly regardless of the result in the polls and I've told DarkUFO that if we get any unsuitable comments we will just close them and stop people writing there. But lets not get to that :)
Also today we have Patrick Jane and Teresa Lisbon from The Mentalist taking on Caroline Forbes and Tyler Lockwood from thriller The Vampire Diaries.

As always goes in these competitions, vote for your favourite and then spread the word around the web so that as many people as possible vote! You have 24 hours to do so... and with that, cast your votes...

Dan Humphrey & Blair Waldorf (Gossip Girl) vs. Dean Winchester & Castiel (Supernatural)

Dan Humphrey & Blair Waldorf (Gossip Girl)
Played By: Penn Badgley & Leighton Meester

Dean Winchester & Castiel (Supernatural)

You can follow me on twitter at @AdDHarris for any queries or questions about the competition and to get the latest news when a new poll goes live.

Check back tomorrow as we have Chuck & Sarah (Chuck) challenging The 10th Doctor Rose (Doctor Who) as well as Clark Kent & Lois Lane (Smallville) taking on Fox Mulder & Dana Scully (The X Files)

Couples already into Round Two:
Day One: Jack Shephard & Kate Austen (LOST), Desmond Hume & Penny Widmore (LOST)
Day Two: Seeley Booth & Temperence Brennan (Bones), Sawyer & Kate Austen (LOST)
Day Three: Peter Bishop & Olivia Dunham (Fringe), Monica Geller & Chandler Bing (Friends)

  1. I voted Dan & Blair as I don't really get the Destiel craze.
Also Jane & Lisbon as I liked them in The Mentalist :)

Don't forget to follow the competition on Twitter @AdDHarris

  2. xD Go Jisbon!!! I voted "Patrick Jane and Teresa Lisbon"

    ReplyDelete
  3. Sorry Daire fans, you're not going to make it. Though I don't support the slash, I still have to vote for Dean and Cas because they are from Supernatural and I love them. Also voted Cyler!

    ReplyDelete
  4. I voted Dean and Cas, even if it's not real, they're a better couple than Blair and Dan.

And Patrick and Lisbon, because they have great chemistry
    .

    ReplyDelete
  5. This makes me absurdly happy. Dean/Cas = joy.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I'm not upset that they were included because this is all in good fun but I don't see how fans of Supernatural can vote for Dean and Cas. Don't they see that it is extremely insulting to the show's writers to say that near the end of the sixth season a character's sexuality isn't clearly established? I understand that Castiel's sexuality is murky at best because he doesn't really have one being a non-human but that just isn't the case with Dean.

    ReplyDelete
  7. So awesome that you included Dean and Castiel. Voted!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Even if I didn't like Dean and Cas as much as I did, they'd probably still get my vote this time around. Just - not a fan of Dan and Blair together as a couple. Sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  9. DEAN AND CASTIEL'S LOVE IS EPIC AND AMAZING!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  10. I don't want to turn the comments into a debate again, but no, it's not really an insult considering Ben Edlund himself just compared their relationship (however people want to interpret it) to a long-distance marriage. If they didn't want the fans to think this, you'd think they'd choose different wording. *Shrug*

    ReplyDelete
  11. Dean/Cas: THEIR LOVE IS LEGENDARY.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Personally, I've read some good arguments for Dean being bi. *shrugs*

    ReplyDelete
  13. DeanCastiel are absolutely adorable, much love! Seriously hope they win :) (Also, I really don't think it's an insult to writers about supporting the ship, when the writers are constantly dropping in references to slash like all the time...)

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'm a huge fan of SPN, and I voted for Dean/Cas rather enthusiastically.

It's not insulting to anyone, it's just a ship. How can you say that this is "all in good fun" one moment and then turn around and try to make a huge deal about it? It's not a big, serious issue; it's just a ship. Don't get so worked up over it.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Dean/Cas & Caroline/Tyler <3333333

  16. Excuse me but, "
    Mischa"? xDDDD

    ReplyDelete
  17. OMG, I can't describe the JOY to see Dean and Castiel's photo up there :D :D :D

    ReplyDelete
  18. voted for destiel and not the other mini poll because i don't know the pairings, derp.
"Played By: Jensen Ackles & Mischa Collins"it's misha, by the way c:

Thank you, again, for allowing Dean and Castiel to even make the list. A progressive attitude is incredibly welcome.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I've never seen an episode of Gossip Girl, and Supernatural has been my favorite show since I saw the pilot...

    I voted Dan & Blair.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Dan and Blair - this is one contest when I vote against instead of for.

    ReplyDelete
  22. It's not an insult to the writers when they're practically throwing D/C lines and moments at us, blatantly. They're very aware of what they're doing with their characters.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I saw Gossip Girl three times and couldn't stand it. Dean is my avatar, and I vote Dan & Blair.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Voted for the more profound bond. Their love is epic etc etc.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'd call that dedication. lol...
ooorrr just spite. But who's keeping score?
...Oh yeah, this is a poll.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think a lot of those Dean and Castiel moments are just fan service. I want to clarify that I'm not talking about fans who just joke around and enjoy the idea but the fans that say that Dean could be gay because the character's sexuality isn't clearly defined.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ha! I watched it a couple years ago while I was in Australia. Had a teen vacationing with me. I didn't watch GG because of this contest.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think that interpretation might be a bit too literal.

    ReplyDelete
  29. let me introduce you to the magical world of demisexuality.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Dean and Cas 89% Wow, dude. XD

    Their love is so profound.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Dean & Castiel FTW! They're a match made in Heaven. ♥♥

    ReplyDelete
  32. Lol, no one has ever said that Dean is gay. But it's very, very arguable that he's bi.

Dr. Sexy, flirting with the deputy in Yellow Fever, the siren being a guy, etc.

Not that that even matters since the competition is inclusive of non-canon pairing too.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Please don't tell me I'm not a real fan because of what elements of the show draw me in. Each and every fan contributes, and has contributed to the ongoing success of the show.

Please don't presume that you are a better fan with more respect for the writers because your interpretation is different to mine.

We're all SPN fans, this poll is in good fun. If you don't believe in it, that's your choice. Move on.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Dean and Castiel will never kiss. They will never be romantically involved with each other on Supernatural. They will never be an official couple. And still, being 100% sure of that, I think their relationship is more complex, emotional, and interesting than any other option we will be given on this poll. They give me feelings that other TV couples just don't. You're not going to find someone else on this poll who has sacrificed more for the person the care about than Castiel has for Dean. My vote goes to the profound bond.

    ReplyDelete
  35. He said "You're awesome" to the deputy and winked at him when drunk, that's not exactly flirting and Dean was out of character that entire episode

I've seen girl "fan girl" like that over their favorite sports player, when they got all excited. Yeah it was kind of stupid for Dean to do that to Dr. Sexy, but it happens. That doesn't mean he's Bi

The Siren was explainedAnd the biggest argument against Dean being Bi, Jensen Ackles would never do it, he's not even comfortable talking about Destiel, I don't ever think he'd act it, ever. Besides if they had keep Season 1-3 Dean and not changed him after hell he'd still be sleeping around with every girl.. Dean needed a brother, not a relationship so the Siren took the place of his brother

People can still ship Destiel, go ahead. But I still don't see Dean as a Bi character no matter how many arguments I see people make

    ReplyDelete
  36. I said nothing about anyone being a real fan. Please don't be yet another hostile Supernatural fan who drives people away from the show.

I simply find it disrespectful to the writers that some people would disregard six years of solid character building. Dean is not a young character. He is not someone who would be ashamed of his sexuality. I think if he was, in fact, bisexual there be more than a handful of (mostly silly)hints of that in over 120 episodes. I apologize if that offends even if it shouldn't.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Uggh! I have had it "up to here" with the show pandering this season to "Destiel" fans. I have nothing against homosexuality I'm sorry but this poll is furthering the slash fans agenda. Not all SPN fans read/enjoy their characters being "slashed" or "Wincested".

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'm not trying to be hostile and I most definitely don't believe having an opinion drives people away from the show (I don't want that at all) I was saying that I don't believe different interpretations mean that some people are disrespectful?

I apologise if you took my reply as hostile, it wasn't meant to be.

Let me just leave this here (again):

Regardless of current canon, a couple should be those who are connected
by something powerful and passionate, and not neccesarily sexual. Read
    this definition from Merriam Webster:

    Romance:

    a (1) : a
medieval tale based on legend, chivalric love and adventure, or the
supernatural (2) : a prose narrative treating imaginary characters
involved in events remote in time or place and usually heroic,
adventurous, or mysterious (3) : a love story especially in the form of a
    novel

    b : a class of such literature

2 : something (as an extravagant story or account) that lacks basis in fact

3 : an emotional attraction or aura belonging to an especially heroic era, adventure, or activity

Modern ideas make it sexual. I disagree with that.

Therefore, a couple who is connected by something stronger than earthly bonds or sexual contact:

    Dean Winchester and Castiel.

On a humourours note, the dictionary definition does include the word "supernatural". ;)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Dean/Cas FTW!

Thank you so much for allowing this pairing to be included in the polls. Dissenters may claim the show has given it no basis, but with lines such as "last time someone looked at me like that, I got laid" and the hilarious scene regarding whether Cas has ever been 'in Dean's ass' I don't think anyone can deny that even the writers themselves are throwing in shout outs to the shippers. They may not be an official canon pairing, but with the arguments made for Dean's possible bisexuality (the guy had a male siren and a crush on Dr Sexy for christsake!) one has to wonder what could have happened if this show were on a different network or made for a more open-minded audience.

    ReplyDelete
  41. No problem, I may have just misread the tone of your post(which I think happened with my OP).

    ReplyDelete
  42. Well, it seems that there are plenty who do and obviously the writers of the show don't mind too much. It's just a poll.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Go, go Dean and Cas! Seeing they here and with a so great win makes so amused! Because they share a profound bond, because they're more than friends. Because their love is beyond physical things.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Dean Winchester & Castiel!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Can't we all just get along? :(

    /I wish I could bake a cake
full of rainbows and smiles, and everyone could eat it an be happy
    .

    ReplyDelete
  46. First I want to start saying that I don't care if you ship Destiel, I'm not against it and its fine HOWEVER Dean being Bi doesn't work. The male Siren was explained in the episode I believe in the Siren's own line that Dean didn't need Love he needed and brother and that's what the siren gave him, a younger brother to look up to.

The Dr. Sexy one was a little out there for Dean but I know guys that have "fan-girled" when they were able to talk to their favorite sports player, idol or star. Even famous actors have admitted to being flustered when meeting other actors. That doesn't make them gay. Its more of a double-standard that society places on men.

Also it has nothing to do with the audience but also the actor. Jensen Ackles isn't comfortable talking about Destiel and he has said that he would not act it. If the actor doesn't want to do it they won't put it in as an couple, they won't risk a couple fans being happy over having an actor walk

    ReplyDelete
  47. I can think what I want to think and feel what I want to feel, hun, and apparently I'm not alone in thinking this way.

    ReplyDelete
  48. hhahah DEFINATLY voted dean and cass, we all know they aren't "in love" or 'like' men, but ya gotta love the hilarious remarks that the co-stars make when sayin' "He's the one crushin' on you, you pray for him and get him down here!" or something similar to that. sooo great.

    ReplyDelete
  49. But of course a character's sexuality isn't going to be clearly established when the writers give him an obvious crush on a male tv character, have a siren approach him in male form and have him connect better emotionally with men than women. But since it's still not done to have a bisexual male lead in a show like this it will never be expressly stated, only hinted at.

Besides, with the show's writers giving shout-outs left right and centre both from the characters and through innuendo-laden dialogue I hardly think it's insulting them to take what they freely give us and go with it.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I think it is actually more offensive and anti-progressive to ship Dean and Castiel. Imagine if the scenario was a gay man and a gay woman. It would be demeaning to say something like "Well, they could still be straight/bi". It's as if you're making light of a person's sexuality.

    ReplyDelete
  51. They are fictional characters, they aren't actual people. And why do you care what some fans do? I like to ship them, some people like wincest and other still wants ship Sam with an evil demon. Get over it.

    ReplyDelete
  52. A lot of guys connect with other guys more than they do women. Mostly because it is a non-sexual relationship and therefor there is less vulnerability and less pressure.

As for the crush...I think a lot of that is imagined. Dean has a strong relationship with Cas because he has always been there for him. Oh yeah, and he pulled him out of hell.

The siren approached Dean as a man because of his brotherly issues. Not because he is attracted to men.

And as I said above, I think a lot of those Dean and Cas lines are simply fan service which they have done a lot of this season.

    ReplyDelete
  53. No one's saying there's anything shameful about heterosexuality. And discovering/acknowledging late in life that one is gay or bisexual is far, far from impossible, so you can't discount that it happens. Seeing something between these two when even the writers see it too (though they may take it a lot more lightheartedly than we do) isn't disrespectful. It's interpretive. What kind of writer wouldn't want fans to pay such close attention that they see something so profound that the pairing ends up in a competition like this?

    ReplyDelete
  54. I don't see how this is the proper place to go on about why you think slashing is wrong. And sexuality has nothing to do with it - not everything is black and white.

People are going to ship them anyway; people are going to vote for them anyway. I don't see why it's your (collectively, everyone who's complaining) responsibility to inform us all how ridiculous this is. We're allowed to ship whatever we want, and we're allowed to vote for whatever we want. Dan/Blair isn't any more real - they're all fictional. It's all for fun. Calm down.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Okay, people keep bringing up how anti-Destiel Jensen is, and I would really, really like to see a source for this. Not calling anyone a liar or anything, I've just never heard/read any comments from Jensen on the subject, and I'm hesitant to accept someone's paraphrasing without the actual quote to work from.

    So yes, link me, please?

    ReplyDelete
  56. I am speaking to only people who want this ship to become canon. If you can compromise Dean's sexuality for the sake of a ship then almost every other aspect of the character can be compromised. A character's sexuality is defining.

    ReplyDelete
  57. So if the writers are okay with throwing out lines/hints/jokes as a "fan service", then why on earth is it wrong for fans to go along with that? Obviously, they're not insulted or they wouldn't keep perpetuating it.

    ReplyDelete
  58. iris_morningstarMay 6, 2011 at 3:56 AM

Thank goodness we have people so concerned about the possibility of offending real world human beings with questions about sexuality. Thank goodness we have those same people to defend the emotions of a pair of fictional beings who can't speak for themselves.

    Fiction is scary.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Yeah, I really want to hear it from him too, cause I've never heard him say anything like that. I think once at a con he said Dean and Cas's relationship "isn't like that" (or something to that effect) but that's the closest I can remember to him saying anything remotely against it. Unlike Misha, he almost never talks about it (for obvious reasons, lol, it's even more controversial than I thought).

    ReplyDelete
  60. I don't think it is impossible that Dean is gay. I just think that fans are reading too much into moments that aren't meant to be taken seriously.

As for the writers...Objectively speaking the writers on Supernatural have been known to pander to fans. Even if they were absolutely sure Dean was 100% straight I don't think they'd come out and say that because of the risk of alienating a clearly diehard subsection of fans.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I apologize, I'm trying to talk in several threads at once about the same thing. I find nothing wrong with having fun with the ship. I am speaking only to those who think the ship should become canon. Sorry if I was unclear.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I don't know how fast I can find a video clip, if I can find the video clip, but at a Con Jensen literally had a fan kicked out for asking if he had seen a certain Dean/Castiel slash video. Fans were talking about it for a while, I don't know if anyone actually got it on tap, but he said that it wasn't what the show was about and if the fan didn't understand that he needed to leave. I believe it was Vancouver Con. You can also ask around for a fan who went to that Con, I know it was on the CW lounge Supernatural board for a bit after

    ReplyDelete
  63. Well, I guess I still don't understand why you, or anyone, cares. Let the people daydream, what is it hurting?

    ReplyDelete
  64. MTE. I think he more of acknowledges that Supernatural is not THAT kind of show. Its audience is not prepared for something like DeanCas and he just wants to be neutral about the entire thing. But if he was really anti-Destiel, then he wouldn't go around kissing Misha, fixing his collar and slapping his ass in front of cameras now would he? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  65. But you seem to be offended by the existence of this poll? I am confused. I think this is a way for fans to (once again) show their support for SPN. "Romance" does not equal sex (as others have pointed out). Plus, Dean and Cas do share a "more profound bond." And Supernatural has always had strong themes of "bromance" and I think Dean and Cas's relationship (in cannon) reflects this theme. The fact that us fangirls in the fanfic world ship the couple is irrelevant to this poll.

Btw - I think there are other pairings in this poll that aren't strictly cannon.

    ReplyDelete
  66. His sexuality hasn't been explicitly defined, either. Does Dean love the ladies. YES. No one is disagreeing with this. But it's never been stated explicitly that he doesn't dig guys or never fooled around with guys.

There's a gray area. It's just as presumptuous for you to assume he's 100% straight as it is for us to assume he's bisexual.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Exactly! I think it's "not that kind of show" as in the show has never attempted to be any kind of a romance--the relationships were always fleeting and off-camera, where a relationship between Dean/Cas would draw considerable focus. It would shift the whole tone of the show.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Yeah, that's something I'm going to have to see for myself before I can accept it. It just seems very out of character/tone for both Jensen and the kinds of discussions that typically take place at cons.

    ReplyDelete
  69. That is NOTHING to do with Destiel. Guys can do that without being gay or bi, contrary to what out society wants us to believe. In interviews Jensen and Jared have been very touchy feely before but that doesn't mean Wincest is real does it? So does that mean Jensen can't have a friendship with Misha and he has to keep away from Misha every time camera's are near so that Fans don't jump on the moment as slash?

    ReplyDelete
  70. I think the real question is why you're SO AGAINST the possibility of Dean liking penis just a little bit.

When has he said he wouldn't act out Destiel if it was written? He may have, I've just never heard him say that and would like some citation. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I hope you realize that suggesting confirmed gay characters are straight is offensive not only because openly gay characters are so underrepresented on television, but also because coming out as gay is something that most people aren't about to do unless they've done some real thinking about their sexuality and how they want the world to see them. Not so for people presenting themselves as heterosexual. This is why it's a lot easier to argue that someone who acts straight is actually bi or in the closet than it is to argue that someone who IDs as gay is actually straight.

    ReplyDelete
  72. So because Sam has never said he likes girls and only girls he's bi too?
    And Bobby?
    And Rufus?
And because Mary was never seen saying she only likes guys she could be bi?People don't have to SAY their sexuality to make it true, just showing it works

    ReplyDelete
  73. I really don't mind that they are in the poll. My only issue is with people thinking the ship should or could become canon. Also, I'm not saying you think this but bromance doesn't have any sexual connotations. Some people seem to not understand that term lol.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Talk to someone who went to the con, or the person who started off saying that because if its not true then it shouldn't have been on boards and it shouldn't be commented all over some of the Vancouver con videos. Have you ever just got so sick of something before? I could easily see that happening when fans are constantly asking slash questions

    ReplyDelete
  75. I don't think that is the same thing. I just don't see how something that would change the character that much wouldn't have come out in six seasons of story.

    ReplyDelete
  76. again I think you are conflating romance and sex. They are two separate things and I have always thought of "bromance" as a type of romance.

    ReplyDelete
  77. YES! Any one of these characters could theoretically be bisexual. Why not?

    ReplyDelete
  78. Name one show where the character has come right out and said "Hello my name is ____ and I like Girls/guys"

OTHER than a character coming out of the closet. Its not a common thing on TV

    ReplyDelete
  79. iris_morningstarMay 6, 2011 at 4:12 AM

A simple look in the dictionary would settle it for those who are confused.

    ReplyDelete
  80. We'll have to agree to disagree. I don't think it is any less offensive to question a straight person's sexuality.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Can I just say that SPN fans ROCK!!!! The Dean/Cas poll has double the votes than the Mentalist poll... We kick ass - that's all I'm saying

    ReplyDelete
  82. Here's the thing. I don't think shipping Dean with Castiel makes Dean gay or even bisexual.

Cas is essentially genderless. Angels are. Raph has proved that by recently taking a female vessel. Personally, the relationship between Dean and Cas is much, much deeper than a purely physical one. I think that Cas and Dean connect on a soul-level. Do I think that Dean is attracted to Jimmy Novak's meat suit? Not necessarily. I think Dean is attracted to Castiel's devotion to him, to Castiel's belief that Dean is WORTH something, that Dean deserves to be saved. I think Dean is attracted to Castiel's resilience and the fact that Cas understands that Dean tends to treat the ones he loves like crap, so Cas keeps coming back anyway. I think Dean is attracted to the fact that Castiel trusts him and is interested in him, and in the fact that (I believe) Castiel BLATANTLY loves Dean. I think Dean is attracted to CAS, as a being, not as a man.

I think the fact that Castiel is a genderless being that just so happened to inhabit a male body makes the ship much more intricate than simple "He has junk, and he has junk, so they're gay" arguments. I think their relationship transcends that.

    ReplyDelete
  83. No no, that is what I agree with. I just meant that some people think that "Bromance" means sex too.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I'm sorry to say, but it does sound like that person was lying. That's the kind of thing that would have been tweeted and reported dozens of times over by multiple people if it was true.

    ReplyDelete
  85. http://youtu.be/jjiBobDm6g0

Gives me chills every time. :D

    ReplyDelete
  86. have we come to some kind of understanding? Its an interwebs miracle - pass the salt and holy water around!

    ReplyDelete
  87. <3 <3 Definitely voting JISBON!!!! <3

    ReplyDelete
  88. Indeed. Pass the holy water!

    ReplyDelete
  89. Ohh yessss!!! The are so cute!! Go Jisbon :D

    ReplyDelete
  90. rhiley mathews Exactly, this. Well said. It's not about gender.

I'd like to follow this up with a quote:
“Millions of years of existence. He’s seen creation and
destruction and war and famine and greed and lust and love and power and
wonder and none of it had nearly so profound an impact on him as Dean
Winchester did.”I don't expect everyone to support the ship or interpret the show the same way that I (and others) do, but we do have some backing as to why we feel that these two have something.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Agreed. With the way this fandom is, if something like that had happened, it'd be big word by now.

    ReplyDelete
  92. What is that gorgeous quote from?

    ReplyDelete
  93. Why so much drama, guys? This is why we can't have nice things.

  94. That's exactly what I was thinking--if he had said anything as dramatic as that, I seriously doubt I wouldn't have heard about it. And since when has anything happened at a con without a video running?

I've never heard of Jensen being rude to a fan at cons or anywhere else, much less kicking them out (can he even do that?), so I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt here and not believe it until I see it.

    ReplyDelete
  95. But Bobby and Sam and Rufus haven't had ~hints at bisexuality. You call what I see as signs that Dean might possibly be into dudes "silly", but you can't deny they're there. They're not there for any other character.

    ReplyDelete
  96. It DOES have something to do with Destiel because hey, THEY are the actors of the characters involved.
Their actions are signs of a powerful chemistry that even they are aware of on some level. Yeah Jared and Jensen have chemistry too. Not a Wincest fan but I'm not about to deny the hints and the potential.
Yup no one's saying that Jensen himself is gay or bi or whatever. Just sayin' he isn't anti-Destiel. Or at least that's not what his actions show.
Dude, practically all the comments I've read are saying that Destiel won't be REAL in the show, but it's real to us fans. We're happy that way and this simple but meaningful poll amuses us.
But it's okay, I get people (like yourself) who feel the need to defend their beliefs I just-- don't understand why you have to be a party pooper here. This is a fun poll that doesn't have anything to do with the show itself. Cause if you think you can change people's minds by telling them everyone is straight, that's kinda a meaningless effort imho. If you support any of the other pairings, promoting them would be a better tactic. Promote like crazy! It's what I did, s'why a lot of fans are voting for DeanCas. So far I think it's working. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  97. Jensen offended by a destiel slash video? Seems odd, seeing has he acted out one out live.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrJOIIOrEog

Clearly, he is soooo offended. ;)

  98. Jane y Lisbon, aún no son una pareja romántica, pero wow, cómo llenan el ambiente con esa buena química que brota entre ellos cuando se miran!!!! ^^

Jane and Lisbon, are not yet a romantic partner, but wow, how to fill the air with such good chemistry that flows between them when they look each other at each other <3

    ReplyDelete
  99. Well, actually, for the sake of argument, there still isn't video of Jensen making the (masturbatory) joke about sleeping with a star of the show, AND I REALLY WANNA SEE THAT. /slightly offtopic

    ReplyDelete
  100. Aw, I think I love them a little bit. They have a way with words. :)

    ReplyDelete
  101. I certainly hope we don't have this outbreak of Dean/Cas shippers vs. non-shippers every time Dean/Cas come up in one of these polls. Undoubtedly, they're gonna be in this competition for a while. I really hope that we Dean/Cas shippers can be graceful under fire. I'd hate to see us get a bad name or, worse, not be included in future fun polls/activities. Everyone has a right to believe/feel/exist. So, just let them think what they want.

Let's be nice and not spiral down into endless bickering, name-calling and regular ugliness.

That being said, voted for Dean/Cas and xoxo to fellow shippers! <3

    ReplyDelete
  102. D/C fans have been nothing but respectful so far, and I'm proud of that. I hope it stays that way. :)

    ReplyDelete
  103. Hitting the 'like' button so hard right now. Sexuality aside, this pairing works for so many reasons entirely unrelated to gender. If Cas had been in a female vessel from the beginning or if he ever switched to a female vessel, I doubt the show would have even hesitated to make it canon. Given Cas was originally meant to die in 4.10 and Anna take his place at Dean's side, I think we all know where the Dean/angel storyline was supposed to be going.

That arguments exist for alternate interpretations of Dean's sexuality is more a point of interest for fans defending against the kneejerk homophobic response to the idea of Dean being involved with a same-sex character, regardless of who that character is. Such interpretations were being made long before Cas showed up. Where Dean/Cas is concerned, it's hardly relevant anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  104. See, THIS is what I'm used to seeing. This is the playful, easy-going Jensen I know and love. This I believe. <3

    ReplyDelete
  105. Thank you iris_morningstar. This is exactly how I see the "romance" of the Dean/Castiel relationship. It's the kind of epic, chivalric "love" between soldiers and comrades-in-arms that have been part of literature and fiction since stories were first told. Whether they ever have sex or not on screen is completely irrelevant to the power of their story. That's why I voted for them.

    ReplyDelete
  106. It's great to see someone else with a brain on here! Lol, j/k. Way too many of these people take this poll too serious. I love your post here with the definition... and that you threw in that it includes the word "supernatural"! Haha, awesome :)

    ReplyDelete
  107. Theoretically any one of us be gay/bi. There are people who change their sexuality in the middle of their lives, and a lot of people have someone that they would go gay for even though they are straight.

    ReplyDelete
  108. JANE & LISBON!!!! <3 Jisbon forever... xx

    ReplyDelete
  109. Ah, why the siren took the form he did was explained, but Sam and Bobby didn't know about all the "I should be you little brother" stuff, and didn't seem at all surprised that the siren took the form of a dude for Dean. I think that's what says the most. Bobby even figured out who the siren was all on his own.

Sorry I love debating this stuff. :)

    ReplyDelete
  110. Dean and Cas, no doubt about that!!! If only it would become real... *fingers crossed, wishiful thiking, imagination*

    ReplyDelete
  111. Amy All I remember is one time at a con about a year ago someone starting to ask a general slash question (something like "what do you think about slash?") and Jensen just groaned and he did seem a bit pissed, but merely said "Come on, man, that's not what the show is about." I don't think he threw a hissy fit or was even talking about Destiel in particular. That was on a video, but unfortunately it would take forever for me to find it.

Other than that, I agree with those below -- if he really got someone kicked out and/or really, really got pissed it would have been a bigger deal and we would have heard about it, I'm sure. Because if it did happen the way the OP said it did, I'm sure many people would consider it homophobic behavior (myself included) and that would not have gone down well at all.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Annette Elena Taylor I agree somewhat in that guys can do that and just be friends. However, I think it does have some relation to this discussion, because there are claims that Jensen wouldn't ever act out a storyline in which he'd have to kiss Misha. If he's shown he's comfortable with similar behavior in real life as himself, that lends credence to the idea that he might be open to extending it a bit as a fictional character.

    ReplyDelete
  113. I feel Dean and Castiel have chemistry
and the writers work it well

    ReplyDelete
  114. Jane and Lisbon :D. I didn't vote on the other poll asI don't watch either show

    ReplyDelete
  115. Him liking girls has been clearly established. But he could also like men, and this has at least been hinted at.

    ReplyDelete
  116. It was Vancouver Con 2010, where Jensen shut down a Dean/Castiel question with "Not what the show's about." http://raloria.livejournal.com/1078719.html?thread=13899711

    ReplyDelete
  117. I think you may have just unintentionally undermined your own point. You're quite right that shows often don't state a characters's sexuality one way or another, which is why so many fans in so many different situations can choose to interpret things however they wish! That is the beauty of fiction. There was never any canonical statement of Dumbledore's sexuality, but Rowling confirmed he was gay. In the first three seasons of BtVS there was naught but a joking hint that Willow might not be completely heterosexual and we all know how that turned out. It was never explicitly stated but Joss Whedon has also confirmed that the relationships between Buffy and Faith could be read in a sexual way.

Essentially, as long as fans can find basis for their interpretation (please look up the word 'interpretation' before you come back and tell me there is none) they can ship however they damn well please. You don't have to agree with their interpretation but that doesn't change the fact that it exists and has validity. That's what fandom is about.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Saying "I have nothing against homosexuality but this poll furthers the slash agenda" is sort of like saying "I'm not a racist, but those [minority group] people are totally up to something." C'mon now. We see what's going on.

    ReplyDelete
  119. SUPERNATURAL FANS.......u wanna know why u guys voted for dean and castiel..not b.c thy r gay but it is the chemistry whether it is a couple or bromance....so there is no main casting female in this show and dean is nt in extremely relation ship with someone else(female) but it is b.c it is necessary dean should be here tht is why he has a chemistry with everyone....so castiel is the closest and the best chemistry he has with someone(female/male)

    ReplyDelete
  120. As much as I love SPN I'm not much of a slasher (and as far Dean is concered my OTP for him is Jo) and Dan/Blair are really growing on me so that was easy.

The second was a bit harder. Picked Jane/Lisbon because I watch the Mentalist with way more devotion that I do TVD.

    ReplyDelete
  121. This is the one I was thinking about and that is a far cry from allegations that he yelled at a fan and threw him out of the room (and that said fan asked if he'd ever watched a Destiel slash video.) I think it's a perfectly acceptable reaction (though of course I'd prefer a more positive one) and does not lend credence to the idea that he wouldn't be willing to act out a romantic story line with Misha/Cas. I believe he merely meant to say that that's not something that the show's about, so it's not something he should be asked about.

    ReplyDelete
  122. See, that to me is an understandable reaction (and not at all what the OP was saying). I also wouldn't consider that one reaction as a valid argument against the Dean/Cas ship (not that I'm particularly interested in any supposed arguments, but still). I wish we could all agree to leave the actors out of it, because it seriously bothers me to see Jensen portrayed in such a negative light just to win an imaginary point in a meaningless argument. :(

Dean and Cas are fictional characters, but Jensen is a real person. Back off, people.

    ReplyDelete
  123. The guy who played the Siren stated in an interview that there was a deliberate sexual element to his seduction of Dean. Never mind the fact that it was made perfectly clear in every other instance that the Siren fully intends to have sex with it's prey and there is nothing to prove that it wouldn't have done so with Dean. If anything the Siren is not only an indicator of Dean's sexuality being less than rigid, it also stands as a nod to Wincest fans, and I say that as someone who has no interest in Wincest at all. But thank you for proving my point that a narrow-minded audience needed a reason other than sexuality to explain the gender of the Siren when it could just as easily have never been commented on.

I never said Dean's fanboying of Dr Sexy makes him gay. However, his response to Dr Sexy when we've seen that the hospital is filled with equally sexy women, coupled with his statement that what makes Dr Sexy sexy is his cowboy boots, certainly allows for the possibility of an alternate interpretation of Dean's sexuality. Alternate interpretation. Not 'definitive statement'.

This is not a recent development, nor something invented by Dean/Cas fans to excuse their shipping. Fans have been reading Dean as potentially bisexual for years. From his drunken flirting with a deputy in Yellow Fever or his response to the former soldier stripping a rifle in 5.02 to the way he develops relationships with male characters such as Gordon, Henricksen and the Siren, there are plenty of instances even outside the obvious jokes and implications
where fans have considered the possibility.

Regardless of whether Jensen is one of those narrow-minded people who is against even implied homosexuality on his TV screen, he has never explicity said that he doesn't want fans to ship it, nor do I ever recall him saying that he would rather walk from the show than act it. Quite the contrary, in fact, one need only look at his line in 5.18 "last time someone looked at me like that I got laid" followed with a flirtatious wink, to see that Jensen has no problem with scenes that are open to interpretation or with giving slash fans a little nod. And don't even get me started on Misha's mentions of the 'homoerotic' subtext of their relationship.

I do not for a second believe that Supernatural would ever actually dare to explicitly state that Dean might be something other than completely heterosexual. Nor does any Dean/Cas fan. That doesn't mean we can't interpret the subtext as we see fit. Sexuality does not fall into neatly defined boxes, there are varying degrees of bisexuality or even simple bicuriosity. Saying Dean could be bisexual does not mean he must have had as many male partners as female. I speak from experience when I say bisexuals will often stick to the opposite sex simply because it's easier; with homophobia still a major problem in the world it's not hard to believe that a bisexual man would avoid or even deny his attractions. Dean could be bisexual without ever having acted on it. That is just one of many ways a fan might choose to interpret what the show has given us.

Of course considering Castiel is hardly a man in the first place, this is all irrelevant where Dean/Castiel is concerned. But for slash fans in general, in this or any other show, there exists genuine reasons for their shipping. Reasons based on canon, on character, on subtext. Dismissing them as wrong only shows how narrow-minded so many fans are in refusing to even consider that such alternate interpretations can exist.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Thanks for finding it. That hardly sounds like he had a fan kicked out for even mentioning Dean/Cas, does it? It's perfectly true that Dean/Cas is not what the show's about, any Wincest fan could tell you that! ;) /not a Wincest fan.

While it's unfortunate that Jensen is uncomfortable with slash fans in general, that's a far cry from the kind of kneejerk homophobia some fans seem only too willing to attribute to him. It certainly does nothing to change the fact that the shout-outs and subtext exist within the show itself.

    ReplyDelete
  125. I have never seen that video before and now I am laughing so hard I can barely breathe. Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  126. Jensen just ships wincest. He said it's his favourite. LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  127. I think he misunderstands a bit what people mean when they say Dean/Castiel (understandably, since he's aware of all the porn fic out there), and that we aren't necessarily asking whether Dean and Cas are having sex, dammit. Those two obviously care for each other and love each other, and how platonic or romantic those feelings are is open to interpretation. I wish he knew that we're not intending to ask anything pervy and make him uncomfortable. Apart from some people, of course.

    ReplyDelete
  128. I'd like to cheer for everyone who stays respectful and reasonable in comments. I'm proud of you, fandom.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Can I ask why you think it would change the character 'that much'? If fans have already chosen to interpret him as such, then surely his character would be exactly the same as it always has been. I know I didn't magically change in some drastic way when I finally acknowledged my sexuality. I just added 'likes girls' to the list of things about me. I still have the same personality, the same hobbies and interests, the same style, the same friends, etc etc.

Hypothetically speaking, if the show did decide to canonically define Dean as bisexual, what about him would change aside from the knowledge (or confirmation for some) that he may or may not have had a sexual relationship with a male in the past and that he may or may not have such a relationship in the future?

I'd cite, again, characters such as Dumbledore, whose sexuality was never defined until after all seven Potter books had been published. Or Willow, for whom we were given (as we have had with Dean) just one or two 'mostly silly' hints for well over 50 episodes before it was suddenly (and for a time, non-explicitly) shown that she was in a same-sex relationship. I have to wonder how many of these exact same arguments were trotted out when fans were debating the sexuality of those characters. That's not to say that either side is right or wrong in this case, only that precedent exists.

I don't actually ship them as a couple, but, hey, it's Supernatural, so...:D

  133. A pair rated no 28 beats Dan&Blair rated no 5. Shocking! I guess in

Adam! Go Dan/Blair! I encourage you all to check out Gossip Girl only
for this couple, or watch Dan/Blair scenes on YT, because their banter

    They are beautiful

    re included ^____^

    ReplyDelete
  135. Unless the writers or the characters have announced "OFFICIALLY TOGETHER OMG" and the fans are like "yay, let's jump on the canon bandwagon", pretty much every pairing is shipped because of the way we "read into things." You don't see Dean as potentially bisexual? Fine. But don't tell me I'm wrong for having a personal interpretation just like you.

And Mr. Edlund did liken their relationship to a marriage. Was he simply yanking our chains? Was he being sincere? I suppose that's up for interpretation as well.

    ReplyDelete
  136. I know there's gonna be repercussions for this but what the heck...

I can't believe people are having arguments over fictional characters. And this one (you-know-who) can't seem to shut up about it too. Please repeat after me:

SUPERNATURAL IS JUST A TV SHOW AND NOT REAL LIFE!

And this Dean/Cas shipping thing is all in good fun. What the writers think about it we will never know unless they tell us personally. To assume they are offended by it is really presumptuous (unless you-know-who is one of them). Don't get so worked up about it, please!

Yes, the fanservice this season has been off the charts but then again they did the same thing for the fans who like to see the brothers in a romantic situation. How many times have people believed Sam and Dean to be a couple?

It all comes down to this...some fans may like one thing while the others like another things about this show. But to say either of them is wrong in liking that particular thing about it is just amazingly ignorant.

That's a load off and all from me, folks! I would like to say, don't bother replying to my comment as I will not be back here but seeing as you-know-who always needs to have the last word in there will be some adamant yet worthless reply here soon.
    Enjoy!

  141. Of course I voted for Dean&Cas, after all they do share a more 'profound bond'
Bit more difficult for me in the other categorie. Not because I am a fan of the mentalist, but because I am still somewhat undecided if I like Caroline to be with Matt or Tyler. Still, voted for Caroline and Tyler.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Go, go, Dean and Cas!!!! Yaaaayyy! This is so beautiful! Dastiel 4Ever! Because they do share a more profound bond.

Can't say it's just a ship when the writers purposely affect the show to appease destiel shippers.

    THIS. So much THIS!

    ReplyDelete
  152. LOL! I swore to myself I wouldn't encourgae this Destiel madness in a competition I like but damn it no way i'm voting for Dan/Blair this is rediculus. Dean and cas have more chemestry even without being gay (maybe if dair happened I would vote for them but no no no and chair alltheway baby)

And voted for VD: Tyler and Caroline cause gosh i really like them and dont watch
    the mentalist YET!

    ReplyDelete
  153. Dean Winchester & Castiel (Supernatural) so great :D

    ReplyDelete
  154. LOL Misha . I LOVE YOU "homoerotic" sebtext of their relationship. This man has no prob playing gay hahaha, his wife wrote a book about three some duh (read the back cover :P)

any way I just wanned to ad something since you talked about Jensen, I think he played gay in a movie once, or bi and his "boyfriend" was named Cass :P just saying.

Loved your comment had to say *bows down*

    ReplyDelete
  155. HAHAH The writers are indeed having a lot of fun with this shipping hahaa, This season is CRAZY the ass joke, I'm a destiel die hard fan and I still cant believe it ahhaha

    ReplyDelete
  156. Whether they ever have sex or not "ON SCREEN" is completely irrelevant :D LOVE your phrasing ahahah

    ReplyDelete
  157. I think it is so funny that Dean and Cas are winning! LOL.

I don't watch the Mentalist or VD so I didn't vote in that part of the poll.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Look at this poll, its Destiel, dair, Caroline and Tyler.. they are all none couple, its all pairings from fans. I dont know about the mentalist since I dont watch it though. Why would you be more pissed about a pairing such has dean and cas then he other? All I see is that one is a gay couple. It's not like it was totally out of the blue there is a LOT of jokes that implies Destiel in the show its freaken crazy. And it will NEVER happen in the actual show so dont worry

    ReplyDelete
  159. But someone's sexuality isnt that clear and set in stone. And no I wouldnt find it demeaning if the pair was a gay male and femele. I'd want them to be Straight for the other person, it's fiction. If I like two caracters I can ship them what ever their sexualities are, I can chose their freaken sexuality ITS fiction not real. I'll assumed you dont read destiel stuff so let me tell you that a LOT of stories have Dean bi or gay so whats wrong with this?

    ReplyDelete
  160. Totally agree with you! You've said everything I think about them! That's what I like so much the "profound bond" line: because it's really more profound than physical things. It's soul connection. It's about trust, it's about giving value to each other. Dean taught Castiel to be himself, to question the destiny. Castiel taught Dean to confide in himself, to be little more for himself than for the others.

And I think it surpasses pure friendship. I'm no't saying it's sexual, they don't even have to kiss each other. Their love is much greater than that.

    ReplyDelete
  161. oh god... maybe this was a bad idea hahahaha! I have to stop reading
this comments I'm getting pissed off. AND YEAH! Booth Bones maybe it
    through :D

this is for FUN people, love, peace hugs.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Really? I didn't know about it! Thank God they didn't do that! Cas is way much more interesting than Anna (and, not intending to offend her, Misha is way much an interesting actor than Julie McKniven). #PraiseCas!

i love every scene where they are together
