Talks are underway with at least one distribution partner to take over the serialized drama. The Event executive producer Steve Stark wouldn't comment, but I've heard new original programming player Netflix's name tossed around. Word is that there has been interest from several cable and digital entities, and the Event producers. Stark said that they are exploring the opportunities with are exploring the opportunity with the "full support" of the studio, UMS. "NBC has been an amazing partner, it launched the show beautifully," he said. Added creator Nick Wauters: "We have a dedicated fan base, and we promised them we will deliver one way or another and will continue to tell our stories."

Umm.. Well, I like The Event, but they need to plan out a season rather than shove as many storylines as they can. Sean started as a guy looking for his girlfriend, went to chasing down her sister, then went on to chasing Dempsey, and now he's going to take down Sophia. Sophia started as a prisoner, went to become the president's ally, then was rescued, battled her son after his death she became the antagonist and now she's ready to kill the entire population of Earth.
ReplyDeleteI believe they should stick to one storyline or "path" per character, or even not focus on so many characters. They should do what almost every show does: plan out a season in advance.
let them just finish the story..the whole show looked like a one season show from the very beginning.
ReplyDeleteI gave up after episode 4, it was a mess of a show suffered a lot of problems the sci-fi genre has lately (FlashForward and V being other examples). Wish the best to the cast and crew but I think it was doomed from the start.
ReplyDeleteI welcome this move.
ReplyDeleteWill. Not. Happen.
ReplyDeleteAnyone else getting flashbacks to the Heroes cancellation last year? I imagine this is probably just something they're saying to keep the fans from revolting.
ReplyDeleteOuch, if Wauters says that, then I'm guessing episode 1.22 wasn't written as a Series Finale at all, that's a bummer.
ReplyDeleteYou had to have been blind not to have seen the shadow of cancellation coming... I mean, after 3-4 episodes the show was already doomed, with these demanding shows like The Event (aka stick around every week) when you're on a slippery slope there usually is no coming back.
So even if it's not the perfect Series Finale I had in my mind, I hope the writers had the decency to wrap things up nicely, they had to know since around november they wouldn't coming back next season, and the whole season wasn't written at that point so I assume they had room to ajust the story the best way they could.
But I, too, welcome this move and will to go further, but usually these things don't pan out (Damages on The 101 Network being the exception) so I don't have much faith in this.
I'll be very happy if it works out though. Netflix might be the solution because they just started to develop original series (David Fincher's House of Cards starring Kevin Spacey in 2012) and they look like they don't mind about ratings or having serialized dramas.
Besides, I don't think any of The Event actors was hired on any pilots.
OMG THIS HAS TO HAPPEN, THE EVENT IS THE ONLY SHOW WORTH DOING THIS! IT NEEDS A SEASON 2!
ReplyDeleteOk, I'll stop trolling. I just can't believe that they really feel entitled to being shipped around to other channels with such horrendous writing...
Yeah, I don't think we have to worry about that. I mean...you actually have to have more than 8-10 people watching the show to have a fan revolt...
ReplyDeleteWhy would someone want to pickup that show?
ReplyDeleteWell I'd tune in if it transferred but I don't know how many others would
ReplyDeleteNot. Gonna. Happen.
ReplyDeleteIf you are a fan of TE, it might be a good time to write to Netflix and
ReplyDeletetell them you will subscribe if they pick up The Event. I am sad the
show was canceled by NBC but with a 1.1 rating a show can't last long,
we should be happy NBC kept it on for the entire season. Let's hope for
a TE second life on Netflix or cable.
I wish the execs or some other network would work this hard to bring the fans a third season of Stargate Universe.
ReplyDeleteOh well, at least they're trying for The Event. It's a great show, and I'm hopeful there'll be a reprieve for it yet.
Well it's kinda hard to have a higher rating when your competition during that night is Dancing with the Stars.
