Dexter - Season 6 'Going Back To The Roots'

6 May 2011

It’s out with the new and in with the old as Dexterheads into its sixth season.

Dexter this season will be in some ways a return to the Dexter that you’ve seen in the early seasons,” Showtime president David Nevins told TVLine at Thursday’s 4th Annual Television Academy Honors in Beverly Hills. “There’s a really interesting story and journey that he’s going to be on this year. There’s going to be some degree of getting back to his roots.”

And that includes putting the focus back on the sibling dynamic at the heart of the show. “There will be a microscope on the Deb/Dexter relationship this season,” Nevins revealed. “Over time you’re going to see that relationship evolve and change, no questions about it.”

Season 6 — production on which begins later this month ahead of a fall premiere — will be similar to Season 5 in at least one key way: Dexter won’t face off against a singular menace a la Trinity and the Ice Truck Killer. “It is not one big bad,” he confirmed. “There’s one interesting story that will move through the season, and it will be cast very interestingly, but it’s not exactly that one person.”

  1. Speaking of roots, I hope Batista and Laguerta end up in some roots. I mean I want them both killed in the season premiere.

If the next season if focussed on the Deb/Dexter relationship, I can imagine at the end she'll know he's a killer.

Deep down, I personally think she found out in episode 5.12, or at least she has suspicion and isn't exactly against it. She obviously doesn't know Dexter likes and even needs to kill, but I think tied all the dots : Lumen as the 13th victim, the shadows behind the curtain (Deb has suspision but she wasn't ready to face the truth), Dexter's notion of justice being the same as hers (somebad guys just deserve to die), etc.

And if Deb knows the truth at the end of the 6th season, I can imagine she'll become his accomplice. That would be a bold move, I don't know if it would work but that would be a gamechanger. And they would have prepared the ground for it given the curtain scene and the fact the sixth season if focussed on their relationship.

It would change the face of the show, but I think it's time.

  2. I think we are stuck with Laguerta and Batista for a while yet sadly. I don't se them doing a complete office overhaul and they need to leave room for Dexter to kill a nosy coworker like Quinn.... and the possibility Deb may have to die if she ever admits to herself that big bro is a killer.

I think you may be onto something though with the partnering up with dead. Eventually she has to find out Dexter is a serial killer and then there are really only three scenarios at play. Deb has to die or Deb has to partner up with him or Deb has to get Dexter arrested/killed... ie the end of the series.
