I am happy with this decision. The show has gone in circles for a season (or two) now, but it deserves a nice farewell wrap-up.
It should help with the continuity too now that they know they have 13 episodes and that's it. The last few seasons they get half orders and plan their storylines on 13 episodes, but then get a back nine very late and have to adjust everything with short notice.
It's great the writers can wrap it up nicely and that the cast & crew have time to prepare for afterwards, but it still hurts to think of having no more Chuck :(
Hopefully it'll be the epic chuck we came to love like in season 1 I know all shows have to evolve but simple things can have a great effect. I'm quite happy about this.
I would complain a year ago, but seeing how Smallville, knowing it was the finale season, has been amazing, and now wraps up tonight in what should be a fantastic 2 hour episode, I think Chuck now has a chance to go out on a high. That being said, I wish it was a full 22 order since it's the final season.
Thy could give it a back 9 , but I personally would prefer them to do so vry early in the season or not at all. Getting a late back nine episodes means that they will have more filler episodes and more of an ad hoc storyline.
I would love Chuck to be meaningful and awesome from first episode of the final season to the last and that is easier to accomplish when they know going in how many episodes to plan for.
This is the right decision though I sincerely hope that if they determine they will expand it to a full season of episodes, they provide them enough time to do so.
Agreed. One reason I give Chuck more leniency in some regards on a fault here or there in continuity (though I think they do pretty well) is because they constantly have to wait for approval on the back 9. in some regards on a fault here or there in continuity (though I think they do pretty well) is because they constantly have to wait for approval on the back 9.
Glad to hear this, even though I love the show. I just want it to be able to have a proper ending, and with as close as they've cut it almost every single time, I'd rather they go out early knowing they're going out, than have the story stretched past where it needs to be and then the show not get a proper ending at all.
I'm a little surprised about the 13 episode pick-up though, considering Chuck needs 22 episodes to reach syndication.
So damn glad it got renewed. It would be nice if there was a possibility for more seasons but at least it's renewed and we'll get a proper and hopefully utterly awesome ending :)
TV shows that last 5+ seasons these days are pretty rare (especially given what Chuck's been up against for most of it's run).. so this is really cool. I'm happy that we can get a nice, solid ending too. They better not end Season 5 on a cliffhanger, or I'll rage.
I've enjoyed every single season of Chuck, even if this season seemed a bit lost in trasitioning into the second half. I was already worried about no more seasons when every character seemed to be "happy". Chuck and Sarah(Sam) are together and about to be married, Chuck and his sister finally know about the family past, and even Morgan has found real love, which gives Casey his own little family. As far as I'm concerned, all the main characters are at whole and have pretty much resolved all things that have floated around since season 1. With the news of a 5th and final season, I felt resolved as well as a fan. I can see one last great mission that threatens their new "family" of spies before retiring into the sunset. Overall, it's always nice to see a show finish on a planned note. This show deserves the proper planned ending and I'm happy NBC protected it after killing so many others during its run. (Heroes, The Event, The Cape, Bionic Woman, My Own Worst Enemy, Life, and Journeyman). Even if most of these shows failed in storyand quality, some were good but lacked the support from the network.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I am so happy about this. And knowing that it's DEFINITELY the final season is a plus, that way the writers have time to wrap it up perfectly.

Expect big things in Chuck's final season!

ReplyDeleteNoooo! I actually expected it would be, but still.
ReplyDeleteAnd can they still get a full season order despite it being the last?
I'm satisfied that's all I want. :)

Couldn't agree more;)
ReplyDeleteThanks :P
ReplyDeleteDo I need mention episodes like cat squad as to why they shouldn't do a late back 9? lol

ReplyDeleteWoo! I'm hoping for a full order.

ReplyDeleteim excited but i also know that we wont get "chuck" like in the first season.

Hour Long Dramas take 85 episodes for Syndication. (Or so I've heard)
ReplyDeleteI think it's good. Chuck already told us the stories that had to do. This season is more a plus to end things.
ReplyDeleteAt least they got a last season! many shows don't get that chance =P And besides 5 seasons it's a lot!
ReplyDeleteAaw really gonna miss this show when it ends =/
I am sad and pleased at the same time. Sad because I didn't want it to be over, but pleased that we are gonna have a proper ending.
ReplyDeleteThis i can live with.
ReplyDeleteThis seems like a "thank you" from NBC for being the only hour-long show in the last five years to retain any positive buzz for the network.
ReplyDeleteI don't watch Chuck but I'm glad to see that its fans got another season and the ability to tie it up. I know a lot of people were worried over it.
ReplyDeleteSo damn glad it got renewed. It would be nice if there was a possibility for more seasons but at least it's renewed and we'll get a proper and hopefully utterly awesome ending :)
ReplyDeletehoping for a full season. thank you for the best 5 years of television!
