Brothers and Sisters + House in negotiations for final season renewals with slashed budgets

5 May 2011

Deadline reports there are attempts to give Brother and Sisters a renewal for a short final season of six to 18 episodes with Calista being less prominent and appearing in a maximum of 6 episodes.

House is also in troublesome negotiations with the budget needing a 20% slash due to the falling rating. Next season is expected to be its final season and it is likely supporting cast members will appear in less episodes. Weekends at Bellevue is eyed as a possible successor for House.

  2. How stupid would it be to cancel one of the few strong series they have left? And yes, if you are gonna cut the other cast members' time you can cancel it already, 'cause it'll make the series a lot less interesting!

  4. If they are dropping House put Fringe in that time slot. Give it something good for once, so it can get a possible Season 5, instead of death slot Friday. They were originally back to back anyway until FOX f'd that up.

  7. To add some perspective... Hugh Laurie's contract is up next year, Robert Sean Leonard wants to go back to the stage, and both want to spend more time with their families. And I want them to be able to do that. Reducing the budget isn't such a big loss for this type of show, they don't need fancy special effects or elaborate bus crash scenes to tell good stories. I'm happy with one more year. It's far more than I expected we would get with Hugh Laurie having to spend so much time away from home. It had a great run. This is from someone who is a HUGE fan that has absolutely loved every episode, and is at this moment giving myself an ulcer from the excitement over the next few episodes this season, but I also need to be realistic.

  8. Oh, I agree with you 100%
... but I still hate the fact that there'll only be one more season of House. True, the show isn't as good as it was, but, even so, I remain an addict. There's something about seeing Hugh Laurie in a role such as House; it's so interesting when I think back to how I used to watch him in Blackadder and Fry and Laurie.

  9. First, the link to the source is bad because one "e" was forgotten. The link is : http://www.deadline.com/2011/05/ums-in-budget-cut-mode-on-house-as-it-faces-20-license-fee-reduction-from-fox/
I'm sad for this show, I find it really smart, but I hope it will be the best season. Less money means less special effects or special guests. I hope it won't be less good storylines. I think the show can survive like this. You know that Hugh Laurie is enjoying his new carreer as a musician (many videos prove this) and he has enough money now to get retired and play one gig every month and be close to his family. I couldn't imagine 8 millions viewers isn't a high score for the survival of a show. How many shows reach that ?

  10. Well, I'm not at all in the camp that the show isn't as good as it was. It might be a little different, which it would be impossible for it not to be after 7 years, but it's still a great show.

  11. Depends on the time-slot. Different time-slots/days require different amount of viewers. For Fridays, a 2.0 is amazing.
