AMC Emmy Submissions

7 May 2011

AMC struck Emmys gold in 2008 with a Best Drama Series win for "Mad Men" and has owned that award ever since. While "Mad Men" has yet to claim an acting prize, another AMC series -- "Breaking Bad" -- has showcased the reigning three-time Best Drama Actor champ Bryan Cranston as well as last year's Supporting Drama Actor Aaron Paul.

While "Mad Men" is back in the Emmys race for a fourth year in a row, "Breaking Bad" did not air any original episodes during the eligibility period. However, the cablecaster has three new drama series -- "The Killing," "The Walking Dead" and "Rubicon" -- that it is submitting for Emmys consideration.

GoldDerby has exclusively learned the entire slate of AMC's Emmys contenders. Elisabeth Moss of "Mad Men" is indeed shifting from supporting -- a race she lost last year to Archie Panjabi ("The Good Wife") -- back to lead where she was bested by Glenn Close ("Damages) in 2009. Both Moss and Jon Hamm are expected to submit "The Suitcase," which plays like a two-hander.

  1. I still cannot understand why
January Jones submitted herself for the lead actress Emmy
considering she was barely in the fourth season of the show. I think she's barely worth submitting for Supporting never mind lead actress
    .

  2. I couldn't agree with you more. If she's nominated in the lead category I will be very surprised.

  3. I hope so much that Arliss Howard and Michael Christofer will be nominated...

(Yes, I'm just here for picture appreciation.)

  5. Hmmm, I'm kind of afraid Rubicon will fall a bit short of nominations.

The Killing: Michelle Forbes doesn't just deserve a nomination, she simply has to win the female supporting actress category. I'd also like to see Kinnaman getting a nomination. But a lot of those actors deserve a nomination, The Killing is a show that simply has one of the best cast acting-wise.

Mad Men: Jon Hamm is a safe bet, maybe this year he can finally win, The Suitcase was awesome! Again, great cast, hard to choose who deserves a nomination, but I'd also pick Slattery and Moss.

The Walking Dead: It's the least "acting-heavy" show on AMC in my opinion, although it's really good too. Lincoln should be a safe nomination bet imo, pretty much the same goes for Holden. DeMunn was great, but I doubt he'll be nominated. I really hope Reedus will be nominated too, but my judgement on him may be clouded, because I simply love this guy ever since The Boondock Saints and none of those guys from the movie can do anything wrong in my eyes.

  6. There was a conspiracy to put Breaking Bad this summer just because the Academy didn't want Bryan Cranston to win the Emmy award for Best actor in a drama four years in a row. I bet he would have.

  7. Bunky Bunk, LOL, it's most stupid thing I have ever read. Why just not nominate the guy or just pick another winner?

Stickoxydal, yeah if they will follow your instructions, maybe they should rename categories for Best AMC actor/actress. Buscemi will win actor category and I don't really think anyone from TWD deserve the spot except Laurie Holden. To be honest the first is very weak except the pilot, but my criticism is multiplied by reading the comics.

  8. The Killing: There's no doubt the cast of this show is excellent. They make most network dramas look like badly acted soap operas. I'm certain Michelle Forbes, Brent Sexton, Mireille Enos, and the series will get emmy nods.

Mad Men: Obviously another show with incredible talent. Jon Hamm and Elisabeth Moss and the show itself will definitely be nominated. Elisabeth Moss might even win this year. Keirnan Shipka and Vincent Katheiser are also very deserving of nominations. I recently saw January Jones wooden and robotic like turn in Unknown. I am now convinced she is nothing more than a pretty face.

Rubicon: I really liked Rubicon. I don't think it will receive any nominations. It was canceled a long time ago; and not many people watched it anyway. That's not to say it wasn't an intelligent and good show.

The Walking Dead: I also like this one quite a bit. However, I think it's hard to judge whether or not a series is award-worthy from just six episodes. I'll reserve judgment until after the second season airs.

  9. Those weren't instructions, just my opinion. And it's not like I mentioned so many unrealistic choices, that it would be an AMC award show only, there are plenty of other spots left and it's also clear to me that other networks also have excellent shows out there.

Buscemi definitely is a strong candidat, but I wouldn't say that he'll definitely win, Hamm has good chances too. And as I said, TWD isn't that acting-heavy, but I'm sure it'll get some nominations as well. Holden and Lincoln are my guesses. It was a great show nevertheless. I also read the comics and they changed a lot, but I can see why Darabont took some detours and I also hope they will follow the source material more in season 2.

And don't you think Bunky Bunk wasn't serious? It was just a joke.

  10. Great comments Callie, totally agree about The Killing and rubicon

  11. I know it's pretty impossible that Buscemi will lose, but I want Hamm to finally get the recognition he deserves so much. Plus Boardwalk will win for the Drama anyway, so it wouldn't hurt much.
