Two and a Half Men - Chuck Lorre Planning Reboot

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that series co-creator Chuck Lorre has hatched an idea to reboot the Warner Bros-produced sitcom.

With time running out before the CBS upfront presentation in May, the plan to relaunch Two and a Half Men without Charlie Sheen is beginning to take shape.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that series co-creator Chuck Lorre has hatched an idea to reboot the Warner Bros-produced sitcom with a new creative direction that does not involve Sheen, who was fired from the series in March. Lorre is said to have presented close associates and Men co-star Jon Cryer with the plan, and the studio and network are aware of his intentions. According to an insider, Lorre has told Cryer this re-boot would involve a significant role for him and the introduction of a new, yet-to-be-cast character.

Sheen, who is suing Lorre and Warner Bros. for $100 million, has frequently expressed his desire to return to the show as he has crisscrossed the country on his "Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat Is Not an Option" comedy tour. A source tells THR that Sheen is still actively working behind the scenes to be reinstated, attempting as late as this week to set up meetings with Men cast members, hoping to clear the air and win their support. But Lorre is said to remain uninterested in meeting with Sheen, and Warners sources are adamant that Sheen will not be invited back.

Neither CBS nor Warner Bros. has said whether Men will return for an eight season. But industry speculation is that the show will almost certainly return. And talent representatives say that Warners has quietly begun pursuing an actor to appear in the series next season. Who that actor will be has become Topic A in Hollywood. Speculation has ranged from the plausible to the peculiar, with names from Woody Harrelson to Jeremy Piven to Bob Saget being bandied about. A Warners spokesperson says none of these actors is in contention.
While a new castmember wouldn’t make “Sheen money”-- in the $1.2 million realm, per episode--slipping into television's No. 1 sitcom would earn an actor a rate well above the usual freshman series fee, says one observer. But the role would come with intense pressure, as blame could be placed on the newcomer if the revamped show flops.
Others have suggested that Men might consider a "roommate" scenario, with multiple stars appearing on one or a few episodes to fill the Sheen void.

When exactly Men would return is another open question. Two sources say a mid-season relaunch is more likely than a fall return. While delaying Men’s start would leave a significant revenue and ratings generator off the CBS fall schedule, the network and studio would have more time to retool the series. But unanswered questions about TV's most-watched comedy could upset ad buyers and upstage CBS's splashy upfront presentation next month.

  1. Unless they cast someone big for the lead role, this show is toast. As much as I hate to admit it, SeƱor Tigerblood WAS Two and a Half Men. No one is going to tune in to watch Duckie and Chunk with some new guy.

  2. Doubt someone else will be as funny as charlie in the show, plus the "fun" thing was he being an obvious drunk etc and getting it all while the good brother would get screwed

  3. I hope they don't cave and give Charlie his job back. He's been avoiding consequences for his stupidity for way too long, and not getting his way with this could serve as a wake up call, or at the very least, the first part of a wake up call.

He recently lost one of his "goddesses", afterall.

  4. I don't think they could bring him back. This whole situation is past the point of no return. When his off-screen antics became an exaggerated form of his onscreen persona the whole premise of the show became sad and creepy. Fiction and real life have been blurred way too much and too publicly.

  5. Years from now when I have children of my own, I'll tell them I got to watch a good actor like Charlie Sheen hit rock bottom, then try to dig himself even deeper because he has tigers blood.

  6. they should end This two and a half men and idk maybe do some spin-off for Jake & Eldridge. By season 8, I was pretty tired of Alan's pathetic life and Charlie's ass-wrangler lifestyle which pretty much ended perfectly. Alan had a gf to move in with whose son is Eldrige and Charlie took Rose to Paris in the last episode so perfect way to say that they got married and stayed in Europe or sth, with Alan moving in with Lindsey. But the show should be more consentrated on Jake & Eldridge growing up, i love their duo.

Jake: "You've heard of Jackass, right?"
    Alan: Yes?
    Eldridge: "We are dumbass!" xd
