  1. To borrow a Fringe line: What the hell happened, why wasn't anyone watching.

Fringies, don't think just because it got renewed gives us the right (for lack of better word) to not watch live or to only DVR it. And I know unless you have a nielson box it doesn't count you say (but I don't think that's entirely true anymore) . We cannot afford to be complacent, not one bit. Just because it got renewed isn't a guarantee for anything. FOX could still change their mind and cancel or short order it for S4.

So do we want Fringe to continue, then keep watching live. And keep spreading the word. Get your friends to catch up during the summer. We fought really hard for this renewal, let's not destroy it.
    Fringe rules!

  2. Only those with Nielsen boxes count in ratings. During sweeps weeks, those with Nielsen ballots count too. Other than that, no one counts. Might be sad but it's true. Since Fringe is actually owned by the WB I believe, even iTunes downloads and possible syndication deals don't matter to Fox. On the bright side, this week is Easter so ratings may jump up next week.

  3. I'm sure NBA playoffs will affect all shows for a while. Most series have been down this week. Plus FRINGE's numbers will go up like 40-50% like normal with DVR added on the live+3 or +7 ... I forget their terms.

  4. the hell is wrong with Fringe's rating??? last night's episode was badass kk~

  5. But DVR numbers don't pay FOX's bills is my understanding.

  6. Season 4 will be Fringe's last season.

  7. Us Fringies will do our best to make sure that it's not!!!! :D

  8. Fringies - I feel your pain. It is sad that Supernatural (my fave show) and apparently you guys' shows are not getting the kind of ratings they deserve.
I have never watched Fringe, but I know a lot of people who speak very highly of it. So I hope both shows are given more 'live' support in future and have very many more seasons to come.

  9. You're right. I just hope that DVR numbers start to be measured and counted by networks more soon enough for FRINGE to benefits from it. It's always one of or the most DVR'ed series each week. In a perfect world that should count for something.

  10. Fringe should be moved to Mondays, it did very well on that "try-out" night. Also Fox doesn't seem to care about lead-ins, but I think Bones would be a good match with Fringe. I wish Fox didn't had American Idol, it would let other shows shine :/

  11. I know, same with SPN. Last night's was amazing. I think everyone is resting easy knowing that Fringe is renewed and SPN is VERY likely to be renewed, so they're not concerned about catching it live. :(

  12. Please keep in mind that this is Easter weekend. Yesterday was Good Friday. Families may be out traveling, spending time with other family members for get-togethers and such. Not only that but with this being a holiday weekend, people may not have expected new episodes to air considering it was Good Friday.

  13. Uh oh Supernatural went under 2 million. I blame Easter break.

  14. Easter break will affect ratings but...

I just read the NBA play-offs are up more than 30% this year ... somewhere between 4.5 and 7 million viewers depending on the match-up. In the First Round match-ups the major markets of New York, Chicago, L.A., Miami, Dallas, and Boston are all represented. Every night this week there were at least 1 and sometimes 3 or 4 games on in Primetime. While I don't think their markets preempted shows since the games are on TNT, ESPN and ABC on the weekends, I do think many in those markets tune into the games.

The first round games should be over by this time next week or very soon after. No telling if ratings will go down or up for the games in the second round. It will depend on which markets remain and how much out of market interest remains for underdog and fan favorite teams I guess.

  15. You've no idea how capricious Fox is. Jensen Ackles filmied six episodes of Still Life and Fox changed its mind. They are notorious about it.

  16. I know a lot of SPN fans, and none of us has a Nielsen box. It's probably the same for Fringe fans. They don't get accurate ratings with those things. I knew people hwo had them. They only watched TBN and a few movies.

  17. You think the ratings are bad right now? Wait until the royal wedding. I remember Charles and Diana's. I'm not missing Supernatural for that. I can watch it the next day. They're be rerunning it for days.

  18. I don't want to go to half my relatives or friends weddings.. I won't be tuning in to The Royal Wedding live or taped.

  19. Lots of Good Friday Services, and bad weather, making TV unwatchable in Missouri, Okla. etc...

  20. It's a privacy issue also and I'm back and forth on it. I really don't want people snooping around finding out what I choose to turn my TV to, unless I give them permission. (I was one of those who was outraged at the Patriot Act.) On the other hand, I want my loyalty to certain shows to count for something, so I would give my permission if asked. But Mr. Nielsen doesn't come knocking at my door, so.....

Anyway, when Joshua Jackson was congratulated on Fringe's renewal, he was quick to thank the fans, and not the ratings. Facebook and Internet movements have a big impact.

  21. Such a good point. We were in church, so we DVR'd. Why oh why was the decision made to air new programs on Good Friday?! Very good point.

  22. Oh yeah, southern Illinois was hit by some pretty bad stuff last night too. I had a couple of friends stuck in it and one is a big Supernatural fan. She was really mad that she didn't get to watch her show. lol But yeah Good Friday services, family traveling, spending time together, bad weather, it's all to be expected that ratings would be down this week.

  23. I think the actors and even showrunners realize that the fandom that DVRs their show matters and is appreciative. Networks.... I doubt they care very much. Frankly, to me the networks matter more than the actors since the networks decide a shows fate usually.

I don't have an issue with DVR registering what plays or when honestly... half the time mine is on I am not watching it anyway... between recording shows as I do something or playing shows to archive on my PC. Most (at least 90%) of which is documentaries and onDemand bonus features not available online or on DVD. I love wild life shows... big cats in particular.

I completely understand others having issues for whatever their personal reasons are though. It would be easy enough to be asked when a cable provider gives you a DVR if you want to be in their ratings system or not I guess. Although if the software is on every DVR.....

Eventually online viewing through select sites, cable DVRs and direct to TV streaming will all register in the ratings systems I'm sure. With connectivity growing so fast the system needs time to catch up. They are never quick to change.

Between cable and my HTPC (home theatre pc that can record over the air or cable or online content), I rarely watch live shows... and that isn't counting people with tablets or smart phones. Eventually it will change, but probably not to a perfect system even then. Technology just evolves so much faster than the bureaucratic companies that do the ratings.

  24. Thank you :) You should watch it sometime it's awesome! ...but if your going to watch it start from the begining otherwise it really confusing... lol :P

  25. Your right, the battle could have gone either way. It's no time to slack off and lose the end result. I want to watch a full season four, and not have to worry about season five being renewed.

    ReplyDelete
  26. As long as if it is the showrunner KNOWS and makes it great I'll.... survive.... i guess.... ARGH why r the ratings so down damn it

    ReplyDelete
  27. yeah they did match it with Fringe in the past and its WHY I started watching cause before IDK why but I was pissed at that show and wanted to fail ahah. I'm sure I did have a reason i just dont rememeber hahaha, but then they paired it with bones and it looked so great

  31. All of CW's shows are down. This helps explain why despite good buzz ratings of SMallville's Booster are down compare to Kent. The 18-49 Demo Is where It really hurt.I didn't think any new movies opened which would bring a lot of the Demo out.Smallville's demo Is going to be terrable when Thor opens.
Even the Vampire Diaries had down ratings this week.

Supernatural was able to keep the Smallville Demo but went down slightly In Overall viewers compared to Smallville.
