Unlike last week, I was a little confused, so going to rewatch soon. But it was just as amazing. I guessed the baby was part timelord in the first episode, so that wasn't as much a cliffhanger as it was meant but was still amazing to see. Also has to be a first that by the second episode we've seen two (partial) regenerations.
I voted awesome but it is kinda like last seasons finale except in reverse. In that the more I think about it, the worse it becomes. Why was the doctor imprisoned? Why did the doctor have to die? Why does River not react more in the past (er... future) about not having that relationship with the doctor.
I get the feeling that at the end, between the second last and the last time River meets the doctor, future doctor will spend a long time with her...
Are you sure she is HALF Time-Lord? because, if you remember, in the "Doctor´s Daughter" episode, the daughter, who was half Time-Lord, couldn´t regenerate per se, she only "revived".
And this little girl fully regenerates, with the energy and all that stuff...
Pretty sure we're not supposed to know that - that will be the set up for the finale of season six. That's why it was mentioned briefly at the end of this two-parter, with Amy giving the doctor a worried look, because she was still aware that that was going to happen. They set up tons of things that have to be concluded through the season, it's not tied up yet.
It sort of made sense to me, she's river from a slightly different time than the other rivers we may have seen in season five. And in-between the rivers we've seen, there may have been other trips she's made to see the doctor. So this time when she meets the doctor she hasn't realised that they have crossed each others time-lines to the extent that he hasn't gotten to the point in time where he kisses her yet. She didn't realise it, and was shocked, as she knew this point would come but didn't know when. It makes sense in my head, but to be fair i didn't think about it too much so if you examined the details it might not wash! :P
What an amazing couple of episodes! They were wonderfully written, had a great creep factor, had Mark Sheppard, and the ending: holy little girl Time Lord batman!
I'm fairly certain that little girl is River Song. She mentioned that The Doctor met her when she was a little girl and knew everything about her, and every time she's met him since then he's forgotten her a little bit more.
Ever since they met again in the Fifth season, especially that Father, there has been allusions to the fact that she's probably not human, and that she killed someone very important to a lot of people. But that wouldn't explain why she didn't know he was going to die.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

Mr. Moffat + Dr. Who = Awesome.
ReplyDeleteSeries 5 & 6 have been great.

Still trying to work that part out.
Jenny wasn't "half timelord". She was made solely with Gallifreyian genetic material.
ReplyDeleteI am hoping that the Amy pregnancy/river song clues are a red herring. A little too obvious.
ReplyDeleteI hope the little girl turns out to be either Susan or Romana. That said, she'll probably turn out to be Jenny.
Maybe they're all red herrings, and the little girl turns out to be a regenerated Jenny (doctor's daughter/clone/thingy)
