The Paul Reiser Show - Cancelled

23 Apr 2011

After two weeks of terrible ratings NBC has officially cancelled, "The Paul Reiser Show." Last night the show got only 2.34 million viewers and 0.9 rating. While this is obviously bad news for fans of the show it might better the chances of renewal for other shows on NBC with established fanbases like Chuck or Outsourced.

  1. I don`t know where this person is getting there facts from, but Community has already been renewed by NBC.

  2. Oh my mistake I meant Outsourced I don't know why I paired those two together

  3. thank God. The show was terrible. Like a poor compound between Woody Allen films and Larry David's Curb Your Enthusiasm. Very bad stuff.

  4. I watched the first episode of the PRS : I genuinely liked it.

But I realize that's just because Larry David was on. I love him and the show has a 'Curbish' vibe (Curb your Enthusiasm is my favourite comedy), so I found it interesting. His appearance was like an amuse-gueule while waiting for the 8th season of Curb your Enthusiasm (July 10th !).

But then I watched the 2nd episode this week : unfunny (just a smile when Henry Rollins tries to prove he can be funny) and boring. I wasn't completely blinded by LD, the PRS does have a Curbish vibe, but it's just nowhere near as funny, smart, well-written and well thought out as Curb your Enthusiasm.

Bottom line : I won't miss the PRS.

Here's the status so far on the new shows I liked on network television this season :

1/ Raising Hope : already renewed.
2/ The Chicago Code : 70/30 imo, the show has good chances to get renewed.
    3/ The Event : 35/65 I guess, it doesn't look good for a 2nd season.
    4/ Outsourced : 40/60, it doesn't look good for a 2nd season.
    5/ Nikita : 80/20, will get renewed.
6/ Breaking In : 50/50 in my opinion, if it doesn't get any lower in the upcoming weeks.

I'm sure 3 of these shows will come back in 2011/2012, but I don't think it's unrealistic to hope that FOX allows Breaking In to go on. The show's got potential. I don't expect the six of them to get renewed (it's an extremely long shot for The Event and Outsourced), but if 4 of these are back I would be glad.

  5. It's frustrating that NBC can't find the missing piece that would make the comedy block completely awesome. Community? Fantastic. Parks and Recreation? Also fantastic. 30 Rock? Still strong. The Office? Entertaining. And then there's a big hole at 8:30.

  6. This week I watched the show for the first and what would have been last time.Cancelled or not. I'm not a bit surprised it was cancelled. It was about the worst thing I've seen in recent memory. There's no loss with this one.
