King - ratings continue to be stronger than XIII and Endgame for Showcase

28 Apr 2011

In its second week King had 207,000 viewers and was Showcase's top rated show of the night.
In its second week Endgame had 154,000 viewers and mostly recently just 75,000!
In its series premiere XIII had 134,000 viewers (though it is a co-production with Canal+ so perhaps Canal+ will save it).
All three shows rate below what Haven and Lost Girl had done in the Summer/ Fall. But both those shows were renewed.

Note: these ratings are for the first airing of episodes and do not take into account the numerous repeats.

  1. I have watched all the listed series and find King by far the best of this season's showcase crop. I enjoy Endgame, but XIII is just meh.

Any news on a Lost Girl Season Two premiere date or production start date? I rarely see info on Canadian shows other than on this site and you seem to be the Canadian TV guru! !

  2. Lost Girl starts filming season 2 in like a week or two i think. it is probably premiering September 11 for me Lost Girl > King > XIII & Endgame
(not sure which i prefer still evaluating XIII since its the kind of show i like, weak start tho hated the flashbacks but i think it has potential. Endgame i got bored of after a few episodes but may give it another try later when i have less stuff to watch )

  3. Yeah I agree about Lost Girl being the best on the chhanel (I split the seasons so I didn't mention it) and I agree about XIII. I love espionage series and I will give it a shot or two more, but that first episode was just overly messy to me. The flashback scenes to the mini-series detracted to the overall enjoyment to me rather than adding to it.

  4. I was amazed with how heartless XIII was. Despite all the constant action and 'cool' fights, I was bored within ten minutes because they completely failed to get me caring about the character. Very very shallow and lacking in anything to keep me interested (and not the good kind of shallow, which i quite like, because it's easy watching). I also got fairly confused about what he had forgotten and what he remembered, and when he lost his memory and when we were meeting him - I'm still not entirely sure.

I'll give the second episode a go in the hope it grows some heart, but I am doubtful.

  5. It was confusing the way it was done. If it helps.... the series seems to be a direct sequel to XIII: The Mini-Series with Stephen Dorff. Much of the cast was in the mini-series except for Jones who was played by a different actress.

In the mini-series they had the character build up... he was found, had amnesia and tried to find out who he was etc. All of the flashbacks were footage from the mini-series.

This series takes place after all that and after he was put in that black cell jail.. so he remembers everything he learned from the mini-series. If I recall right, he discovered everything about his past in the mini-series.

  6. I had some free time last night so I watched the first two episodes of King even though I planned to pass on the show altogether. I thought the show was a mixed bag. Amy Price-Francis was really good but the the entire supporting cast is utterly forgettable and there wasn't anything new or unique about the first two plots either. On top of that, the show has a substantial number of similarities to The Closer that probably aren't coincidental. King is alright but, truth be told, Amy Price-Francis carries the entire show.

  7. Oh really?? My goodness, talk about screwing your chances to get a new audience, they have made a huge mistake with skipping over that stuff (or rather, summarising it badly). Thanks for the info, i might try the mini-series. I suspect this show is going to suffer from a load of frustrated first-time watchers that give up soon though. :(

  8. Showcase ran the original mini-series quite a lot in the months leading up to the new season. I suppose they'd hoped that enough people would watch such that there wouldn't be so much of an information gap with the audience in episode 1. Added to that is the fact that the biggest audience for the show is in France, where the original was a big hit and the story is very well known.

Episode 1 may have suffered from the burden of being a connector for some and an introduction to others. Subsequent episodes get much more focussed and easier to follow.

  9. Ah cool - i hope that is the case then and the intended audience do better with that first episode. I'll certainly give subsequent episodes a go then - thanks. :)
