This doesn't really feel like fringe anymore, more like the last few seasons of LOST, i feel like we're going to see sayid come out and torture it out of him or somehting, sawyer's one liners etc. I love lost, but I want fringe to be fringe!! Come back to us fringe.

  2. What does Sam say at the beginning? "(Something)'s not to be used unless..." I think "code word" but it also sounds like "cock war"... O_o

  3. I hear code word and crow bar.... I don;t think a crowbar would work.. so......

    ReplyDelete
  4. Must be "code word" then. That fits with the "key" mentioned later.

  5. "code word's not to be used unlesss something goes wrong with the machine"
"Uh Sam, look outside, something is going wrong"
Something along those lines (can't stand watching the gum ad. again.)

  6. Really? I have been very happy with the episodes that unravel the myth arc and don't have MOTW or a lot of "fringe science" in them.

  7. So Sam has generations of knowledge bestowed on him.... who gifted that knowledge and why him? I want answers dammit!

  8. This.

When I watched LOST I would cover with my finger my vision of who the guest stars were because I was so obsessed I would know if important people (Christian, Widmore, etc) would show up. For the first time since LOST ended, I actually had that impulse for this episode. Not that I would know any of the guest stars for this show, but it was an unexpectedly nostalgic moment for me. Not to mention how Peter was so close to Charlie in "Greatest Hits."

Anyways, I hope the show continues to stress its mythological elements.

  9. Bestowed! How one word can change everything. If he was a real first person, why would that knowledge have to be "bestowed" upon him? But he claims to be much older...?

Now I'm thinking of him as some sort of hybrid between a prophet (he knew the machine would be operated) and devotee (he knew to look for signs and test them--the balls in his office).

First People? Observer? Using the tech Walter used to see between universes, but more advanced?

After tonight, I think he's more interesting than September ("the" Observer).

  10. Me too. I prefer it to the overly "science-y" MOTW episodes. I'm not sure I would quit watching if they went back to less myth arc and more science MOTW, but I did lose interest in season 2 for a while. This season has reignited my FRINGE Fever!

  11. Right. With that one word "bestowed" I have gone from thinking he was a First Person to a "Second Person" if you will. Like he has the knowledge of the First People given to him by them for a purpose, but is not one himself.

IF the Observers are time cops or time custodians of a sort, maybe Sam is/was one of them or he is of a rival faction that has the uber-advanced tech and time travel (maybe slowed aging too?) of the Observers.

If the Observers want Peter to use the machine (or sacrifice himself trying) maybe Sam's people are a group that would want an opposite result. Kind of like an inter-dimensional/multi-time lined feud between two parties.

  12. Two factions would make sense if what we've been told is correct: one group could want to use it to destroy and the other to use it to create.

Along those lines, if the Observers are capably of being anywhere in time, almost omniscient, that would explain Sam's extreme need for flying beneath the radar...

    I'm liking this developing theory...

The Observers are determined to preserve a set time-line, while Sam's group (if there is one) is being somehow helped or previously encouraged by the First People to preserve both universes...?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Save both universes or save the opposite one that the Observers would want saved?

The problem developing any theory regarding the Observers too far is that we really do not know exactly what they want to happen, stop from happening, which universe they want to save or destroy, or if they want to save, destroy or merge Blue and Red together.....

    ReplyDelete
  14. Right, there are three outcomes: one, the other, or both.

In any case, from September's "experiment" it seems they (or at least he) wanted to know if Walter would let Peter work the machine. Plus, from just a story-telling point of view, "one or the other" is more compelling, with "both" being the most acceptable to an audience.

I think we can rule out, "Psych! Both universes and everyone in them dies!" :P

  15. Also it could be that Sam is not in a rival faction per se.... but was with the Observers - a devotee or supposed to be an Observer, and did not like what they were going to let happen or cause to happen with their subtle influences. So he ran off and went into hiding to fight a personal battle to coutneract their plan or desires.

    hmmm... so many impossibilities!

  16. :)

    Love this show.

See I think thats where we differ, I liked when the relationships kicked up and the finale for season 2 was amazing for me!! Now this is whole part with the machine and now having to go on a big treasure hunt for a key just seems to much like a "now we are going to focus on just what the mystery of the island is" and as much as I love LOST, Fringe was doing so well for a while there, and i did like Feaux taking action to get to our side and her staying strong and fighting back after he locked her away! As well as Liv I guess now starting to fight herself but... if they spend to long on this like treasure hunt... its gonna get flat. Maybe i just spoiled myself on this ep too much before it the only big surprises were feax getting locked up and Peter falling after being zapped from the machine.

  19. Did the promo and teases this last week show those two events happening so the impact was lessened for you? I rarely look at the spoilery promos for FRINGE. I did this week since it engrossed me so much I guess.

I don't think they are going to be looking for this new part or key very long.... there is only two epsiodes left. I completely understand your point though.

For me the entire reason for the show is the myth arc of this season and last and showing the journey the lead characters take as they are forced to deal with the events that cause or occur within the myth arc.

I guess it's like LOST in that respect. Some liked it for the characters and others for the mysteries of the island (or that dealt with the island).

I like FRINGE for both reasons, but I think the show excels when it shows the characters in the dramatic moments that the overall myth arc causes. Everything seems to be more intense... more dramatic in the myth arc to me. Maybe it's more me and not connecting with the MOTW stories as much?

I hope it goes in a direction that fits what you like about FRINGE more....Either way the next two episodes have so much potential to blow some minds!

agreed. as long as they stay true to our characters and don't try to go to deep into the machine and stuff in these just two epis im good.

  21. Dsemond -esque!

Either the part is "the box", or the key is a person (Lost: "The Package")

"Listen, I am going to make this really easy for you, I am armed and I want you to take me to the key now"

As if guns will sove everything. SHe's getting riled up.

  23. In a book "Golden Witchbreed" - there is a character, the Hexenmeister, who has all the memories of his/her predecessors effectively downloaded into him/her: making the Hexenmeister immortal, but each person is not.... Totally getting that vibe here.

  24. I took it as if she was wanting to threaten him and his life , if he is the last Sam and he is still alive that's mean he has agenda to do ,

If William Bell did trust him i will trust him too , but he doesn't want to say every thing because he is trying to protect something which we don't know yet .

The question is : why Sam? and why he did choose Olivia ? .. why he didn't go to Nina for example ?

Saying that the 2 universe may merge .. will not has any sense IMO , 2 universes one of them will survive and Sam is sure from that .. Bell is sure from that .. Walter is sure from that .. Walternat is sure from that .

Sam said : the time isn't correct , which is right .. because the machine is activated not from the natural .. it's activated by the order of Walternat .

Walternat is playing God .. as how Walter did play God once a time .

So , what's Sam agenda ? why Olivia ? what's going to happen next ? ... we have to wait and be patient and see the 2 next episode .
