We are back and better than ever! Well, kinda. We are all better for The Cape hanging it up finally and getting The Event back to where it belongs. Apparently there will be less mythology and more strait drama/action going forward. That is fine, just less for me to write/speculate about. I am just happy that the show is back. Good news though: the posting of Dempsey’s office provided some juicy nuggets for consideration!
Some folks wondered about the logic of blowing up the satellite by Thomas shortly after sending the ominous message “preparations are underway for your arrival.” However, it makes sense if he was concerned about someone retrieving the satellite like we have done before via the Space Shuttle. My assumption is that someone will hijack SETI equipment to listen for the response.
Fun Facts:
Wow! Signal: The Wow! signal was a strong narrowband radio signal detected by Dr. Jerry R. Ehman on August 15, 1977, while working on a SETI project at the Big Ear radio telescope of The Ohio State University. The signal bore expected hallmarks of potential non-terrestrial and non-solar system origin. It lasted for the full 72-secondduration that Big Ear observed it, but has not been detected again. Much attention has been focused on it in the media when talking about SETI results.
Amazed at how closely the signal matched the expected signature of an interstellar signal in the antenna used, Ehman circled the signal on the computer printout and wrote the comment "Wow!" on its side. This comment became the name of the signal.
Detroit, Houston and Denver news broadcasts discussed the rocket launch. Each of those cities are sanctuary cities that do not allow municipal funds or resources to be used to enforce federal immigration laws, usually by not allowing police or municipal employees to inquire about one's immigration status. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanctuary_city
The President’s Chief of Staff is the same actor that played a crazy pharmacist on Desperate Housewives. Not really relevant but I found it amusing.
“we can speculate to the end of time…” brought to mind the multiple theories about the end of the universe as we know it. These can be found here.
There are reports that aliens are building a base camp in the Himalayan mountains in Tibet. Really. I am not making this up.
NGC 253 is a real place; Sculptor Galaxy (also known as the Silver Coin or Silver Dollar Galaxy, NGC 253, or Caldwell 65) is an intermediate spiral galaxy in the constellation Sculptor. The Sculptor Galaxy is a starburst galaxy, which means that it is currently undergoing a period of intense star formation.
One supernova has been discovered within this galaxy, in 1940. Wonder if that was the event the motivated the people that crashed in 1944? Also worth noting: John Herschel made an observation of 4 larger stars and one smaller one. These appear to be reflected in the magic table of Dempsey. Finally, it has also been called a dusty galaxy; remember the references to the home world of the aliens lacking water? Dune anyone?
Sean Walker, international man of mystery
Once again Sean is superbad. He sensed the presence of the bad guys earlier than everyone else; does he have special powers? How much does he really know? I am thinking that he recruited Leila at college because he knew about her specialness. His goal; get closer to the Buchannan’s. I am curious when we will finally learn the truth of young (sky)Walker’s parents. See what I did there? He also seemed very comfortable wielding the gun and knocking people out.
Meanwhile, Leila continues to be the Queen of Denial. Perhaps she is thinking, as she talks to Michael, I know you are but what am i?
Thankfully the whole rescue Samantha quest (see my WoW relation to The Event theory) is over.
The Dark Thomas Strikes!
The device being built by Thomas and company is reminiscent of the 1997 movie, Contact. In that movie, aliens send plans that allow for transport to another dimension/part of the universe. The movie was based on the book by Carl Sagan. Apparently everyone is going to be coming to the party.
I was waiting for Thomas to shout “say hello to my little friend!” during the raid on the prison.
Thomas’ theme:
The length that Thomas is willing to go to bring change about speaks volumes to his years of pent up frustration. Now he is acting out and no one better get in his way.
We are reminded that the aliens were not supposed to set up house here. Simon and Michael among other violated that directive.
Land of the Unbelievable
Really? The Sergeant at Arms for the Senate is not going to secure the sensitive items of the dead Senator before the arrival of his replacement? One of the most ridiculous things to date.
This new Senator is going to play “hardball” with the popular President? Really?
I hope the survival of Blake Sterling makes it to a future unbelievable list. I enjoyed all the scenes he had this week, in particular his Chuck Norris-like defense of the prison. Honestly I thought he was going to release the gas that was hinted out previously on the show.
Predictably, Sean disappeared to allow Leila to not have to make a choice. As he walked away, all I could think of was David Banner.
Why does Thomas need the prisoners? There were an awful lot of sleepers. What happens when it gets out he killed 44 of their own because they would not listen to him? Thinking with his little head.
What is that tablet that Dempsey was playing with? Looked like some kinds of map and the stone pieces have runes on them.
Speaking of Dempsy, his office offered up some interesting bits of information. The really interesting stuff related to an excavation in France. Using the clues, it is likely that the site is in the Jural Mountains. This is significant due to the village of Alaise. This village sits on the epicenter of ley lines that are thought to be sources of great energy. Perhaps the source of energy is his goal. Perhaps he is working at odds from Thomas and secretly with Sophia.
Well, I’m tired and out of time for now. Hope you enjoy.
As usual, you can find me on twitter @iowa_card. Please leave comments below if you like. Let’s talk!
