The Event - Current Events episode 1.13 by iowa_card

First a word: there was a terrible convergence of reality and fiction. The tragedy of Japan cannot be understated. Please help if you can. Here are a few options.

Now, to the business at hand:

Well, how about that! The Event has really picked up the pace. Let’s hope the ratings pick up as well! Let’s do this: if you twitter, and you know you do, use the hashtag #saveTheEvent! On with the ramblings:

the heartache lives on inside
And who's the one you're clinging to
instead of me tonight?

And where are you now, now that I need you?
Tears on my pillow wherever you go
I'll cry me a river that leads to your ocean
You never see me fall apart

In the words of a broken heart
it's just emotion taking me over
Caught up in sorrow
lost in the song
but if you don't come back
Come home to me, darling
don't you know there's nobody left in this world to hold me tight
nobody left in this world to kiss goodnight
Goodnight, goodnight

I'm there at your side,
I'm part of all the things you are
But you've got a part of someone else
You've got to find your shining star

EMOTION – written by the Bee Gees

Nightmare on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
Tonight there was, to me, a recurring sense of nostalgia. For example, the nightmare at the beginning of the episode reminded me of these two gems:

The most significant point to this is that Thomas has caused the President to doubt himself. This introspection is not a complete surprise of what we have seen so far. His compassion should never be mistaken for weakness. It could be interpreted that the shackles in the dream represent him feeling shackled by his values. Sadly, this causes him to make some poor decisions based on emotion and not reason.

A Chicken in Every Pot

Thomas is making all kinds of promises to his people. It remains to be seen if he can cash the checks his mouth is writing. My money is on Sophia. The so-called aliens are very human; or are WE very alien? Think about that! The range of emotions displayed by the Others is amazingly human: greed, fear, anger, love, thirst for revenge.

Sophia, on the other hand, has been more on the other end of the scale: wishing no harm on the natives, setting emotion aside in order to do what is best for the greater good, etc. How very Vulcan!

What in the wide, wide world of sports is going on here?

Yep, no one would notice that convoy of inconspicuous black vehicles. Why could the military track the escapees? Nothing indicated alien technology at work. Getting from Alaska to Califonia (my assumption) is not a short journey.

Does Simon own a TARDIS? He sure gets around quickly.

Michael and Sophia: married to each other before? Sophia was messing with her ring finger conspicuously and their friendly interaction seems to indicate a familial relationship at the minimum. Also, closed captioning has Michael calling Sophia “sweetie”.

Look, it Mr. Chernobyl! Hmm, let’s take a look back at a previous post. When he went for that communication devise (ewww) I was thinking Phantom of the Opera moment.
Interesting that we have another reference to Chinese culture with the location of money laudering in Chinatown. Additionally, Sophia had offered tea to Sean and presumably fixing tea right before the attack. Take a few minutes and check out my previous essays that have further information.

I seem to recall several people thinking that the youngest daughter was adopted. This episode answered that question: NO;she is half alien like Leila.

Speaking of answers, we now know why the prisoners could not escape. There are a lot of magnetic issues in polar regions.

I won't tell you I told you so, but i did.

Return of the Man from Uncle

Sean once again shows he isn’t who he pretended to be when we first met him. First, he does the David Banner walk at the end of the last episode and this episode some dufus makes him angry.

The secret agent man also knows Jimmy can hook him up with fake id. Has he done this before?
Did we know he had a sister? I guess so, she knows about Leila

Another thing we learned is that the aliens, for lack of a better term, all have specialized skills. This brings me back to thinking of a kind of Noah’s Arc. Remember that you can derive Nation’s Ark from Mt. Inastronka?

The burning question: Leila’s question of what happens to the native population. My guess is that the newcomers will introduce some sort of flu-like illness. This was foreshadowed in the pilot episode.

The return of Vicky! Not sure if there was a continuity error or intentional; the vehicle in the parking lot when Vicky takes the nice guy down has an Oklahoma license plate and there are palm trees in the back ground. Here to tell you that is not likely in Oklahoma. Finally, for a super-secret agent, she is very negligent or Sean is a much better superspy.

How odd that Hanson was able to get out of his cuffs, obtain a murder weapon and sneak up on Sophia. Yeah, right. There are an awful lot of coincidences to be accounted for in this fictional world.

Finally, we are left with the image of the President authorizing deadly force. Emotions certainly ruled.

Until next time, spread the word: #saveTheEvent
