-Ratings Breakdown:
It was all about The Grammy Awards, of course, with the 53rd annual festivities on CBS at a commanding 17.9 rating/27 share in the overnights from 8-11 p.m., with the half-hour breakdown as follows:

The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards
8:00 p.m.: 17.8/27 (#1)
8:30 p.m.: 18.0/27 (#1)
9:00 p.m.: 18.5/27 (#1)
9:30 p.m.: 18.1/27 (#1)
10:00 p.m.: 18.3/29 (#1)
10:30 p.m.: 16.5/28 (#1)

Comparably, this was just two percent below the above-average 18.2/27 for The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday, January 31, 2010. That telecast translated into 25.87 million viewers with a 9.9 rating/24 share among adults 18-49, based on the live plus same day ratings.

Earlier in the evening on CBS was granddaddy newsmagazine 60 Minutes at a dominant 9.0/15 in the overnights from 7-8 p.m.

Elsewhere, the competition took a hit, as expected, opposite The Grammys. ABC’s top Sunday draw remained Desperate Housewives at 9 p.m., but a distant second-place 6.6/10 in the overnights was well below average. Weaker lead-in support translated into a season-low (and also second-place) 4.7/ 8 for Brothers & Sisters at 10 p.m. As for Desperate Housewives, Susan’s (Teri Hatcher) lame kidney storyline could make the veteran serial a candidate for the annual TV Turkeys column in November.

Earlier in the evening on ABC was veteran America’s Funniest Home Videos at a second-place 4.4/ 8 at 7 p.m., followed by aging Extreme Makeover: Home Edition at a 4.1/ 6, which also ranked second. As a reminder, inspirational Secret Millionaire steps into the Sunday 8 p.m. hour on ABC on March 6 for six weeks.

NBC populated the evening with a two-hour edition of Dateline, which averaged a drab 3.6/ 6 in the overnights from 7-9 p.m., followed by back-to-back repeats of recently introduced David E. Kelley legal drama Harry’s Law as follows:

Harry’s Law R (NBC)
9:00 p.m.: 3.2/ 5 (#3)
10:00 p.m.: 2.9/ 5 (#3)

The half-hour breakdown for overused Dateline appears as follows:

Dateline (NBC)
7:00 p.m.: 3.3/ 6 (#3)
7:30 p.m.: 3.4/ 5 (#3)
8:00 p.m.: 3.6/ 6 (#3t)
8:30 p.m.: 4.2/ 6 (#3)

Sadly, eight hours (or 38 percent) of NBC’s schedule last week was made up of Dateline and Harry’s Law.

Fox opened the evening with a repeat of The Simpsons at 7 p.m. (#4: 2.0/ 3), followed by relocated American Dad (#4: 2.4/ 4), which is not benefitting minus the original lead-in support from Family Guy. The rest of Fox’s regularly scheduled animated Sunday line-up took a hit opposite The Grammy Awards as follows:

Fox/Sunday
8:00 p.m. – The Simpsons: 3.6/ 5 (#3t)
8:30 p.m. – Bob’s Burgers: 2.6/ 4 (#4 – series low)
9:00 p.m. – Family Guy: 4.0/ 6 (#3)
9:30 p.m. – The Cleveland Show: 3.1/ 5 (#4)
