-Ratings Breakdown:
It was a Friday of four-way leadership, but there was nothing to celebrate about. CBS remained the most-watched network with 8.32 million viewers, on average, while ABC, NBC and Fox were tied for first among adults 18-49, each with a mere 1.4 rating/5 share in the demo. Needless to say, Friday remains a troubled evening.

CBS and Fox tied for the top spot at 8 p.m. care of relocated The Defenders and Kitchen Nightmares, but the Gordon Ramsay non-scripted hour only delivered 3.72 million total viewers. Take a look:

Friday 8 p.m.
The Defenders (CBS)
Total Viewers: 7.92 million (#1), A18-49: 1.1/ 4 (#3)

Kitchen Nightmares (Fox)
Total Viewers: 3.72 million (#4), A18-49: 1.5/ 5 (#1)

Given CBS’ overall strength throughout the week, there is every reason to believe it will be back to the drawing board in the Friday 8 p.m. hour next season.

Also airing from 8-9 p.m. was NBC’s Who Do You Think You Are? (Viewers: #2, 6.60 million; A18-49: #2, 1.4/ 5), featuring country western singer Tim McGraw, ABC animated encore holiday specials Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown (Viewers: #3, 4.08 million; A18-49: #4, 1.0/ 4) and A Charlie Brown Valentine (Viewers: #4, 3.64 million; A18-49: #4, 1.0/ 3), and soon-to-conclude Smallville on The CW (Viewers: #5, 2.33 million; A18-49: #5, 0.9/ 3).

CBS was the top draw at 9 p.m. courtesy of CSI: NY, which averaged 9.66 million viewers and a 1.5/ 5 among adults 18-49. For a typically sleepy Friday, consider CSI: NY a “winner.” And that led into an encore telecast of Blue Bloods, which returned to the 10 p.m. hour with 7.38 million viewers (#2) and a 1.2/ 4 in the demo (#3). If Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior performs well out of parent Criminal Minds on Wednesday (and there is every reason to believe it will), chances are Blue Bloods will remain in the Friday 10 p.m. time period.

NBC competed with a two-hour edition of Dateline at 5.70 million viewers and a 1.4/ 5 in the demo from 9-11 p.m., with the half-hour breakdown as follows:

Dateline (NBC)
9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 5.44 million (#2), A18-49: 1.3/ 4 (#3)
9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 5.88 million (#2), A18-49: 1.5/ 5 (#2)
10:00 p.m. – Viewers: 5.71 million (#3), A18-49: 1.4/ 5 (#2)
10:30 p.m. – Viewers: 5.75 million (#3), A18-49: 1.4/ 5 (#2)

But two-hours of 20/20 on ABC was slightly higher rated at 6.35 million viewers (#2) and a first-place 1.6/ 5 among adults 18-49. Here is the half-hour breakdown:

20/20 (ABC)
9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 4.92 million (#3), A18-49: 1.2/ 4 (#4)
9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 5.59 million (#3), A18-49: 1.4/ 5 (#3t)
10:00 p.m. – Viewers: 7.14 million (#2), A18-49: 1.8/ 6 (#1)
10:30 p.m. – Viewers: 7.74 million (#1), A18-49: 1.9/ 6 (#1)

Elsewhere, and in the 9 p.m. hour was relocated Fringe on Fox (Viewers: #4, 3.71 million; A18-49: #3t, 1.4/ 4) and Supernatural on The CW (Viewers: #5, 1.96 million; A18-49: #5, 1.9/ 3). Despite the lackluster performances, both scripted hours are expected back next season.
