Grey's Anatomy - Episode 7.15 - Golden Hour - Review

'Golden Hour' was another refreshing episode from Grey's Anatomy last night.

The episode followed Meredith over the course of an hour as she helped to run the ER. The episode went back to the medical side of the show and showed us the struggles of working in emergency medicine. Meredith has to deal with a handful of cases including a child with a broken leg, a man with a knife in his head and a man with heart problems. It was nice having a range of patients to focus on and showed the show from a different perspective to usual.

The Chief's wife also returned after she fell onto her wrist but Meredith suspects she is suffering from a mental illness after she appears to be confused about things. The Chief overlooks Meredith's concern and takes Adele home.

There were a few negative reviews about the layout of the episode and I know some people were pessimistic about how it would play out in the episode. However, this layout once again took us back to the core of Grey's Anatomy. We saw a lot more of the medical side than we have in recent episodes and I found it really interesting. It reminded me of when ER did a similar "real-time" episode. I really enjoy them.

It was nice to be focussing on Meredith again and take a break from Callie and Arizona's drama. It's easy to forget that the show was initially based around Meredith and four other interns and their seven year course at the hospital these days, but last night was a reminder of these original characters that we fell in love with seven years ago. I've seen people moan about the lack of Callie and Arizona, but at the end of the day, the show was never initially about them. It was nice to take a break. I hope Grey's keeps more focus on these original characters now. There was a really nice moment between Meredith and Christina and a very emotional moment when Meredith had to break the news that one of her patients had died.

I also have to quickly mention the scene between Meredith and Bailey .... classic! It's nice to see Bailey's character develop in the way she is. Overall, another brilliant episode from the show.
