UPDATE: Some news with differing results, suggesting more of a Drop for Fringe:
This is some early news, not the full results which haven't been posted as of yet.
The return of Smallville and Supernatural to The CW on Friday evening resulted in a dip in ratings for Fox's cult series Fringe. Smallville and Supernatural were originally due to return last week but The CW delayed new episodes of both shows by a week. This was due to the broadcaster wanting to repeat Nikita and The Vampire Diaries and also because of local pre-emptions. This meant last week's Fringe held steady in the ratings with lack of (cult/sci fi) competition and pulled in 4.7 million viewers.
This week however, Fringe saw its ratings drop slightly with 4.3 million viewers and 1.9 million in the 18 - 49 demo. All in all the drop isn't too bad considering and perhaps wasn't as huge as some might have expected - the lost audience will undoubtedly catch up with Fringe via on-demand services. However, DVR figures mean little in the overall context of renewals but at the moment Fringe seems to be holding up well in the "graveyard" of Friday evening on Fox.
Smallville returned for its final batch of episodes with 2.4 million viewers while Supernatural was slightly behind with 2.3 million viewers.
