V - Episode 2.03 - Laid Bare - Review

The second season of V continued last night with its third episode "Laid Bare".

Is it just me or has the show gotten a little gross? Last week we saw Anna eating a rat and then feeding it to Ryan's daughter and this week we saw a torture scene involving skinning and cutting of tails. I can't remember season 1 being that disgusting to watch! It's not a bad thing though, it makes the show much more edgier and thrilling to watch!

This week picked up the pace again as we saw Erica and the other members of the Fifth column take Malik hostage to try and find out what the Visitors want with Tyler and where a group of kidnapped people were being taken too. After a dark torture scene, Malik told them where the hostages were taken and the group are able to save one of them. I was a bit disappointed with the lack of information they got from Malik, surely she knew more? It would have been good to maybe see Malik stay in the show a little longer and reveal some more information. Nevertheless, the torture scene did add some great suspense to the episode!

Back on the ship, Anna is starting to prepare Lisa for her reign as the Queen and tests her future abilities as she reveals her plans for the Human race. Anna tells Lisa that the human soul is the greatest threat to the Visitors plans and they have to remove the human soul from the body. Towards the end of the episode, Anna forces Lisa to take a human life by removing their soul. This is clearly difficult for Lisa although she manages to fool her mother. I'm really enjoying Lisa's storyline at the minute. It seems she is starting to turn against her mother and the Visitors which could develop into something very interesting.

Overall, "Laid Bare" was a pretty good episode. It picked up the pace which it lacked last week and moved along with the storyline while opening up more possible twists and turns to the story. Jack is now on Anna's radar which puts all of the Fifth Column at risk. At the very end of the episode, it appears Ryan is about to tell Anna about the Fifth Column in order to get his daughter back, is he going back over to the other side?

I hope the show continues to pick up the pace for the remainder of the season and tries to make the story a bit more unpredictable than it is right now, but still, a great episode.
